3 points off top but the way we have played the last 2 games we could of been 2 points top? I get everyone looks at the table i get it hes getting points i look at it from the football it self and entertainment and its poor

You could argue that McClarens team were entertaining.  Look where that got us. I personally would love more stylish football,  but if this is what it takes to get out of this league. Bring it on

It does work in rugby but I think that is mainly because it’s much harder to slow the game down for ten minutes in order to kill time until your sin bin player is back on the pitch especially if your team isn’t in possession of the ball. Football is much more fluid in terms of possession and I think it would be much easier to deploy such tactics.
There is no real delay in line outs because they are taken from exactly where the officials say and you don’t have to mess around waiting for one of your players to become free to receive the ball. Also, there is no real equivalent of the goal keeper holding onto the ball and not being allowed to be challenged.

In rugby, when the full backs have the ball, they don’t generally have that long and will often punt the ball down field which, more often than not, turns possession over to the other team. In football, there would be much more passing the ball backwards and forwards between the defenders. Because you can only pass backwards, this is less likely to happen in rugby.

Also, in rugby, the actual game time is much more directly linked to the actual clock which is stopped under certain circumstances (e.g. an injury). The sim bin clock also stops. We all know, in football, time added on is much more arbitrary. We’d probably need a 5th official to keep time (with appropriate pauses) for sin bin times.

In short, I think the differences between rugby (and other sports to play more to the clock and where it’s harder to waste time legally) and football is too big to use it as a comparison in this respect.

With regard whether a yellow card is really a punishment or not, I think it is when, as you say, the player has to be a bit more cautious for the rest of the game especially defenders.

I think the only time a sin bin would be an effective punishment is when there isn’t a great deal of time left and the team on the receiving end are having to chase the game.

We will see if it is a success if they trial it. Obviously the powers that be seem to think it will work/warranted

  3. I have said this for ages now. I am a Football and Rugby fan.

The sin bin works in Rugby so well.

A yellow card in a football match merely makes that player slightly more reticent when going into tackles but is not really a punishment for what could be a cynical foul or dissent (you never see a Rugby player argue back or swear at the Ref).

10 Minutes off the field could be a good punishment and at this level we could end up playing against teams of 9 or 8 the way some teams play.

Can’t believe the sentiment on here about a talented young player who is desperate to prove himself but whose career has been blighted by injuries.

Warne has seen a player in training who exhibits amazing skill. He has shown faith in TJJ because if he could get fit, he’d be a great addition.

It didn’t work out but surely the hope is that this young man realises his dreams?

I can't believe that you can't believe the sentiment on here. I have been on this forum for a few years now and in the last couple of years, the levels of sympathy and patience have nose dived.

Maybe partly due to the administration and the farce that followed etc.

But it really has become toxic in places.

Warnock off to Aberdeen, so we might as well keep him then....

(For the record, I absolutely think we should keep Warne, based on how he's turning things around, this was a joke)

Off to Aberdeen? That won't do his ruddy faced complexion any good.

Having been there, it is bitterly cold even in the height of summer.

    He is buggered.

  6. He is probably savvy enough to also realise if he goes to the Premier league,  he may only play bit parts at the moment or get loaned out.

If he got championship interest,  he would walk into most teams and stay. So maybe he is banking on championship football with us next year.

Either way it is a win win for Derby.

We were told we had some money for transfer fees. We also had the Bird fee.

We are Collins injury away form not finishing top 6.

No one actually knows how much money is for transfers.  I could say I have savings, you won't know how much. Money for Max Bird might not be there until he actually leaves again you and I will not know. Or that money might be used already for other debts. The Max deal might not have been sealed until it was too larlte for us to recruit. You will never know. Shoulda,  woulda   coulda.

  8. The plain fact is, we do not know what the budget is, what restrictions are still hanging over our heads. If you have to rely on loans, you can only go for what is available at the time. Same for free agents. On top of that they have to want to come here.

So your ocean of talent becomes a fish pond.

I can see some logic in picking experience over youth if you are targeting a quick return,  it has its risks. But surely going for youth is riskier.

In a perfect world, we wouldn't have any restrictions and at this level, pretty much the pick of the best available at that level.

Some transfers will work, some won't.

I still say, bring in a position to go for top two at this stage with what we have is pretty good.  We should only get stronger as our injured players return.

Does he? His goals are pretty exclusively headers, first time finishes and penalties. Don't think in his wildest dreams is he going to drop a shoulder, do someone for pace over a few yards and ping one in the top bin.

I would hope he never does, much prefer him to pop it in the net

Bird, NML and Collins have played too many minutes and too high a pace and intensity.

They are all now knackered. As our game plan involves running around a lot, this is a slight issue.

I would agree with you. However. Bird is young and should be able to go longer into the season. Collins and NML put far more effort and energy in than Bird. So you are right with those two. I like Bird, but he is not all that. His basic passing was atrocious the other night. That is not fatigue that is lazy.

He's only 32 - ok nearly 33 but people have been levelling this accusation at him for at least a year.   I don't believe physiologically a 32 year old has lost much - at least not due to age - a few percent most.   He should be able to cope physically - the athleticism of league 1 players is typically less than the higher levels.

Not sure I entirely agree with your last line. At levels above, games are usually wide open and players have time. If you are clever you don't have to run as much if you can dictate the play.

At this level, most teams rely on their athleticism ton just run and hope they are faster and harder than the opposition. Currently most teams are more than Derby.

You could put Kevin de Bruyne in our midfield, it wouldn't make a difference because Warne actively bypasses the midfield.

It's a tactical choice that is currently, and will continue to, cost us points.

However, if your midfield is so poor as ours is, why would you play it to them. Bird pretty much gave every ball to the opposition last night.

So until we get some decent players in the midfield, we may as well play 5 at the back and 5 up front.
