One thing about Clough is you knew he’d get us right up for games like that Newcastle one. See also the voodoo we had over Forest and Leeds at the time.

Remember a 2-1 win away at Leeds when Bucko scored a last minute winner. Think we had a penalty which Sammon took for some reason and he even managed to mishit that, but Coutts scored the rebound.

Think there was another away win there which I’m certain was in the league but for some reason was live on BBC, in the Bueno season, but before he’d arrived. Possibly the first game of the season.

Which was the L**ds game where he took them off the coach before the ground and made us walk in?

But yeah the Mac1 4-4 bloody unbelievable!

... then you probably also read from my posts that RUFC fans were waxing lyrical early season about both the results and the style of play. More expansive than "Warneball". Not just down the outside cross it and hope...

No I didn't read your posts.

So not just cross it and hope, okay.

Ah, and here we are a few days removed from securing our promotion through a 46 game season in which we achieved a record points total for the club, broke the record for away wins, had the best goal difference in the league, had 19 different goalscorers scoring a variety of goals to see us finish second in the league and for it all to be reduced to “cross it and hope”…. 🤣 never change Roy….

Why don't you read the thread and BACK OFF? I repeated what MadAmster said after I asked what style of football he was suggesting Warne played with Rovrum in the Championship third time.

Just to be clear I wasn’t disputing our wage budget, the poster I replied to asked about evidence of our financial might so I shared a couple of bits of info to answer that query.
I do dispute the use of that budget as a stick to beat Warne with, but I don’t wish to get into that.

The comparative size of our budget might be an interesting point that will come up in future years (if not sooner ;)). Mel is pilloried for splashing cash around, but isn't that what Clowes did on a lesser level, he gambled on a 'promotion expert' and it just paid off.

And all of you waiting to jump in and have a go don't bother btw. That's my opinion and if you have different one good for you, state it as your own and leave me out of it!

...My curiosity is that when you ‘look for an investor’ - what does that look like? Clowes Developments sells 49% stake in DCFC (not the stadium) for X amount to an investor and in return the investor agrees to invest an additional sum of money into the club, possibly spread over a certain time frame?

Again, I don’t see anyone doing this to make money - more they see DC as someone they can work with and trust. My issue with joint ownership models is how well they work out when conflict occurs.

But is it realistic to get good financial input for just the Club? Shouldn't the Club and stadium be together?

Of course it is, but if he did it without discussing it with the Academy coaches who know their players stage of development (or should) better than the first team manager, he'd be negligent in his duty of care to young players.

In any case, Academy teams play quite often against 'men' in friendlies and competitions like the Derbyshire Senior Cup, so it's not a major stretch to think that some can cope with playing more games against such opponents, is it?

No it's not, but that's not what Warne said is it. You seem to be arguing with yourself. 😄

    No so.

How many of these did we loan to lower league before popping them into the first team...

Hendrick, Hughes, Knight, Sibley, Bird, Cashin, Bogle, Lowe, Buchanan, Ebiouwe, Plange.

    By my recollection just one.

At Championship level the ones who are good enough often go straight into the team at around 19.

Usually it's the ones we don't think will make it that get loaned out.

As do most managers in the Premier League - that's why the EFL is overrun with high-level loanees, and not all of them go back to their own clubs never to play for them again. I'd say it's pretty much essential for forwards and defenders, because even at a higher level they're going to face physical, aggressive players.

EDIT - I should have said that it's often the Academy Manager who recommends a player for a loan out if they feel it would benefit the player.

I suppose we weren't in the Prem. 😄 My answer related to this point made earlier in the thread.

As for who makes the decision about picking a player for the first team that is down to the manager isn't it?

  7. 1 minute ago, Crewton said:

That's not directly his job here though - that's why we have a large number of staff at the Academy. It's their job to develop the youngsters and, when they think they're ready for first team exposure, convince the manager that they're up to the job.

And as I said, didn't the manager say he sees going out on loan to play 'men's football' as the first step.

That was then, this is now. I think that there have been comments from Warne along the lines of needing to go out on loan and play mens football?
