Just out of interest, what do you think Knight deserves?
He was very average, in a team that failed to make the League One play offs.
Don't get me wrong, I like him but not sure he will ever make an impact at higher than Championship level.

Sounds a very promising player and one I'd be glad to have on board.
If we're paying out £250k for a player who'll be a back up for / rotation option with Ward I'd suggest that indicates our budget for our new main striker will be reasonably substantial.

Think the fee Bolton a agreed was rumoured at 200k, at that price it’s a steal

I agree. I suspect he knew the deal was nearly done, knew he wasn’t playing on Saturday and knew he wasn’t going to be on the plane today, but couldn’t say as much at the time.

Warne’s comments from last week’s video were clearly on the back of a deal 95% done.

    The article says the the following;
“as the Robins squad flew to Austria last week for a training camp, technical director Brian Tinnion remained behind in Bristol to get the deal done.”
I take that as being that the people who negotiate the transfers (not Pearson and Warne) were doing so last week. The club has a valuation they set for Knight and Bristol have met that valuation. Regardless of what any of us fans think, the people in charge at Derby think it’s an acceptable amount. As mentioned the other day, I really don’t believe Warne saying what he did in a local press interview had any bearing on the transfer negotiations, I know you think otherwise.

Since when has 2m been peanuts for a player out of contract next summer.
Would you be saying its peanuts if we were the ones spending 2m on a midfielder who is out of contract next summer?

I've seen people going only 2 million??
To put this in perspective Clowes bought Derby County all in for around 50 million, this would mean Knight for 2 million is 4% of the Football Clubs whole value, ground included. Take that in, 1 player for "pitiful!" 2 million has the same value as 4% of the whole Football Club.
Too many people pay attention to the Premier League and the insane transfers up there, where 2 million is peanuts but for us and where we are 2 million is a decent amount and should go far.
On a side note I'm actually happy we're selling players I though the Derby way was buy for millions and release on a free at the end of their contract.

£2M is a decent fee for a L1 player, and that will be considered.  Arguably he could go to a higher Championship club but you can only sell to those who put a firm bid in.
He did the right thing and agreed to the extension, he didn’t try and do what the other 2 last year did.  I have wondered that he agreed to the extension but had asked that if we didn’t go up he’d like to talk to clubs in a higher division.  Similar to Paul Goddard years ago, we’ve agreed to that.  No idea if that’s the case, just idle thoughts running through my brain.
Personally, I think he’s plateaued over the last couple of years.  He’s done well in patches but not set the world alight.  I think a change of scene will do him good.  Good luck to him if he goes.

I hope he proves me wrong, but I think this is about right for him. Mid table championship club, reasonably stable albeit unstable manager.
Good value, good move all around.

    Gyökeres
Now thats the sort of scouting and recruitment we need to be doing. Not Gyökeres now, but a player as was 2 years ago when Coventry took him on loan from Brighton and then made him permanent.

Well I wouldn't disagree with you on an ability comparison but that wasn't the point I was making! I was saying that ,for me,Collins, when playing as a centre forward.is the focal point of the attack.I don't intend analysing his abilities as there are sufficient "fans on the forums constantly ready to demean him for what he can or can't do.Brian Clough always used to say if you don't like a player then criticise me because I bought him! In that respect I always consider that Liam Rosenior got off rather lightly because he "spoke well"
Anyway, back to Godden. If he comes, great,if not,so be it! Money from Knight's impending sale might now allow us to chase Nombe from Exeter or Clarke-Harris from Peterborough.Exciting times and such a refreshing change from a year ago.

Can only go by what I've seen on tv but their "version" of Collins appears to be Gyokeres and Godden plays alongside him.A mate is a Coventry fan and he rates him highly so,all in all,if he comes I'd be happy and,if not,the hunt continues. Now the defence is sorted, bar another wing back,we all know where the priorities lie.

Good reminder that Knight is also one of the highest earners. 2M with a sell on fee, Kane Wilson and a good chunk of wage made available with him and Bielik. We’ve had their pants down

If it’s £2m and Wilson that fixes the additional rb/rwb we need and gives money for attacking/midfield reinforcements.

I kinda feel the same. What’s not replaceable is the fact he covers about 4 positions and you can trust him without worrying. I am a little disappointed in £2m but also fully understand why it’s only £2m at the same time. That money though, could be essential in getting 2 or 3 of the missing pieces we need.

Not too concerned with Knight going, money will be useful to replace him & hopefully strengthen the squad

I can remember watching Jimmy Greaves at the City Ground for Spurs just a few years ago! and heard a florist fan say exactly the same thing about him. That was about 2 minutes before Greaves scored the winner, which was all he did!
Don't care if he's 31,uninterested in any potential resale value but I think a forward easily capable of 20+ goals at this level could, with our new defence,be the catalyst for promotion which ,surely,is the overriding aim this season.

Not denying a younger one would be better long term but at 31 he isn’t an oldster whose legs have gone. Talking of young ones having a Dobbin type on loan in the mix would certainly add to the balance.
