Replacement for Wildsmith IF he doesn't sign a new deal
Possible options: Chris Walton (Ipswich), Matt Ryan (AZ Alkmaar, Netherlands)

    Johansson from Rotherham ?

Cashin and Nelson to remain as starters. I think we'll stick with 3 at the back next season so would prefer a new starter in the middle of our defence - an upgrade on Bradley. Nyambe, Bradley, and Forsyth (assuming his contract is extended) acting as cover. Rooney loaned out.
Possible options: Cameron Burgess (Ipswich), Filip Helander (Odense, Denmark), Syb van Ottele (Heerenveen, Netherlands), Shawn Adewoye (Waalwijk, Netherlands), Hasan Kuruçay (Braunschweig, Germany)

Josh Knight-out of contract at Peterborough or Chris Forino of Wycombe?

    RWB
Ward and Wilson to have 6 months to prove they can step up and remain injury free. Review in January

    LWB
One of the tough decisions to make. We have Elder who had a horrid season with injuries, Sibley (if he extends his deal) who is still learning the role, and Forsyth (if he stays). Depending on budget, I would be looking at a new signing, but could leave it until January
Possible options: Sam McCallum (Norwich), Marc Nielsen (Hvidovre , Denmark)

    CM
With Adams, Smith and Bird leaving this summer, our end of season midfield 3 needs completely replacing. If Hourihane has triggered an extension and we keep Thompson, it means those two plus Fornah our our backup mids. I could see us loaning out one of those younger players and siging a 4th CM this summer
Possible options: Will Vaulks (Sheff Weds), Freddie Potts (West Ham), Joe Williams (Bristol City), Alan Browne (Preston), Ebou Adams (Cardiff), Connor Barron (Aberdeen), Herbie Kane (Barnsley), Deroy Duarte (Fortuna, Netherlands), Robin Fellhauer (Elversberg, Germany)

If formations this season are anything to go by, we'll need players who can fit into a 3412 and a 3421. Logically, that means players who can play out wide. We already have Mendez-Laing and Blackett-Taylor under contract, with rumours of Barkhuizen triggering an extension. 1 new signing who can also play central will be needed.
Possible options: Chris Willock (QPR), Lazaros Lamprou (Excelsior, Netherlands)

    CF
John-Jules, Gayle and Waghorn out, with Collins hopefully signing a new deal and Brown being drafted into the first team. Two new CFs needed. I'm undecided if it would be best to offload Washington to free up some budget for other positions, or keep him as a fringe player.
Possible options: Harry Leonard (Blackburn), John McAtee (Luton), Sam Gallagher (Blackburn), Tyrese Campbell (Stoke), Sinan Karweina (Klagenfurt, Austria)

We're going to be linked with so many players this summer given the obvious holes in our squad and the fact that agents have traditionally used our names when touting their players around in the press.

Best to treat every rumour with a large pinch of salt unless interest is confirmed by Leigh Curtis or Dom Dietrich.

I should imagine they're in the dark as well.Warne keeps his cards close to his chest, quite rightly.

Looks a bit of a beast to say the least. Reminds me of Ebosele with the strength, big tackles, fast feet and mad pace

Love the commentators on this! Can we transfer them to Rams TV ?

Interesting to hear him say he's flying over to Denmark and Netherlands to watch some players, think we need to be a bit more dynamic next season to get results. Genuinely intrigued to see what kinds of players he signs.

    No,no idea either!

    Sounds like Nyambe is out for this one and an as yet unspecified further amount of time. With that bit of info I’d like to see a back 4 with Wilson at right back;

                    Wildsmith

    Wilson  Nelson  Cashin  Sibley

    NML   Adams   Bird  Barkz

            Waghorn    Gayle

That’s what I’d like to see, just go for it in an old fashioned 4-4-2 with Waghorn able to drop in as the “10” and Gayle playing on the shoulder. Wilson and Sibley offer balance and an attacking outlet at fullback, NML and Barkhuizen carry assist and goal threats.

I don’t think that’s what Warne will pick though, could see another 3 at the back or perhaps a 4-3-3

I know we're at home and should be on the front foot from the off but I'd want at least one of my full backs to be able to defend.Nyambe and Fozzy are big misses for us.

  6. Always good to get an experienced striker in,albeit one whose pace has lessened.Does he go straight in after 4 days of training ?( he meets the squad tomorrow) or do we use him as an impact player ? Looking forward to the debate regarding what formation most fans expect us to use to accommodate him.Pleased he's joined and hope he's got 5/6 goals in his locker, could be the difference between automatic promotion or the play offs 🙏

Yes, we had all of January to sign a striker and no doubt we tried for the entire month to secure a deal.

But it is not straightforward. Clearly we want players who will add something to the squad and we want someone who will improve us in some way. It’s not a case of taking absolutely anyone.

Better players are usually more difficult to sign, and clubs and even players will use whatever tactic they can to get the best deal and move possible. Moves you think are close often break down because of this.

If Collins is out for any length of time, it’s just really unfortunate.

You'll also have heard Warne say a striker was lined up with 4 hrs of the window left and all parties were ok with the move until his manager suddenly changed his mind.

I understand plan C is in operation

Niall Ennis on loan to the end of the season

Ward looking very likely to be leaving on loan

Smith and Gregory - not coming - Wednesday apparently wanted 100% wages + 1m loan fee for smith - 50% + 150k for Gregory

Loan with guarantee we buy for £500k ?  Hope Blackburn aren’t as stubborn as the Wendies https://footballleagueworld.co.uk/bolton-wanderers-barrier-blackburn-rovers-niall-ennis-pursuit/

Willing to see what he can do, but 1) sounds like more of another puts a shift in midfielder as opposed to a technical player.

2)Our midfield issues aren’t going to be resolved by running around more…

That said, if he comes in we change the system allowing the likes of Bird and Hourihane to do the better bits of football I can’t see why he won’t improve us.

11 games played in 2 seasons is obviously pretty concerning, even if his injury was a freak one. His last full season was 2 years ago at league 2, which again is concerning.

Not trying to pile on and be overly negative,

but from a realistic standpoint 3)this doesn’t strike me as a player we’ve scouted for a while and he’s a massive gamble both ability and fitness wise.

Hopefully he adds a bit of something in the middle, and at minimum he’s another body in for the run in to cover injuries.

Even if we only spen 25% of that money it would really help a rebuild. Moxon and branagan for around 1.5mill combined would be a fee range I think is not silly or undervalued. Coupled with a young asset of our own like Robinson or tomo getting more minutes and a chance to impress.

Why do you think Oxford, one of our promotion rivals, would sell us Cameron Brannagan, one of the top midfield players in this division for anything less than the £2m he's been conservatively valued at ? Id love him at Derby but it's never going to happen, sadly.

Sad state of affairs but we have very few assets.

Cashin and Bird are the only players that could command a 7 figure fee. The rest are either too old, too poor or expiring in the summer.

Sounds like we might a forward in before deadline day but looking at last night’s performance will that be enough?

Blimey,is Warne training them that hard?!

I did understand your Latin it looked good to me, my reply to your “we live in hope” was, or should have been, “ We do” (facimus) 😂

I don't see that signing my old Latin teacher "Smithy" will do us much good he must be 120 years old now 🤣

To be fair he did frighten the life out of me when I was 10 years old however, he was good at conjugating Latin verbs perhaps PW has a new tactic to confuse the opposition.

    In spe vivimus!
