People criticise Mel Morris but at least he got transfers done - just throw money at it and worry about the accounting when you’re in the premier league

You'd have been really popular with this post 13 months ago! 🙄

We will but it might not be our first or second choice, plenty of teams with money to spend like WestHam for example haven't made a signing yet have some money.

Agents probably advising players to wait until later near end of window when clubs will pay more wages and fees etc then freeing up space for movement

We are not alone in being frustrated in lack of signings and greedy agents won't be advising players to jump at first offer.

A team starts the season not scoring many and the price and wage demands go up its not good and is far from the good old fashioned way transfers were conducted.

In many ways the transfer window itself does not help and I think it would be much better if you could buy players at any time, then agents would'nt wait until last knockings to get the price up ...i personally think agents are bad for the game and just out for themselves...a lot of teams waiting and trying to get players in not just us

So, if there was a thread on here saying we are signing strikers Chuba Akpom from Boro, Viktor Gyökeres from Coventry and Carlton Morris from Luton, you'd have to look them up? Or if Levi Colwill got called into to the England squad, you'd have to Wiki him?

Didn't it work out for him at Sporting Lisbon then?

100%! I must have said this on about 5 threads. We've not had a 20+ goal a season striker for eons and now over-entitled moaners go on and on like we're Man City - they really don't get that we're in L1 on a L1 budget - it's really not that complicated! How quickly they've all forgotten that we were almost closed down and now they're demanding top players. Ridiculous.

And as you say, McG was NOT prolific before last season. PW made him a 20 goal striker. This is factually inarguable - he played for 20 seasons and didn't get 20 goals in any of them prior to playing for other managers.

I'm not going to bite anymore - just pray to god that Wash gets 20+ goals so the spoiled brats stop bloody moaning.

My favourite post of the thread. Well said 👏👏

Also! It’s just occurred to me, Derby so far aren’t currently saying he’s not for sale…we all love Bird but Smith and Hourihane have so far been playing in his preferred position and Bird has played a role that would suit Sibley in pre season.

Not saying im right or wrong, gonna be interesting what Warne says tonight tbh.

Wouldn't expect them to,every player has his price.

I can remember when we signed John Robertson from F*rest there was - I remember quite a few in the C Stand that would give him abuse... I think it would be the same with Sharpe...

And one of them was probably Brian Clough!

This would seem to be a very strange move for both parties given the problematic history. I certainly think he has been perfectly entitled to view some Derby fans with contempt after the abuse and particularly the subject matter of that abuse. Personally I have never joined in with any of it but significant numbers still do which is really disappointing. I don't think he covered himself with glory with his Wrexham mardiness but I suspect that he is a fairly prickly character and gets himself involved in these sorts of confrontations.

Would he score goals ? I'm sure he would but I doubt that he'd be a guaranteed starter and would he want to be an impact sub ? Seems unlikely. I would also worry that he would be to blame for every duff result. We could lose 3-0 and in the eyes of some, the loss would probably be because Sharp missed a chance or 'wasn't trying cos he hates us' not because we shipped 3 soft goals. We occasionally have a player who can't do wrong for doing right and at a time where we are trying to establish a sort of 'one club' sense of supporters and clubs together, I'd hate to see one of our players cupping his hand to his ear to throw any abuse or criticism back at the fans.

I just think this is a bit too toxic and not what we need now as a group. We need everyone pulling in the same direction and fans and players to have each others backs. On that basis I just can't see this being a thing and is likely just social media noise.

Spot on post! Just change that one word to vile or disgusting

A couple of posters (and Warne) have commented about the need for another body in midfield, so I thought I’d trawl through the free agent list on the sometimes inaccurate and unreliable transfermarkt to put together a list for discussion. I don’t know great detail about many of these, it is very much a face value list with a few observations thrown in. I’m not necessarily advocating for the signing of any of them (though the lad who’s been playing in Belgium or Adeniran appeal), and I’ve written the list myself rather than fielding any accusations of being/using AI to do so 😉

    The idea being an opportunity to chat about the potential solutions rather than the apparent problem itself, some more realistic than others;

    Midfielders

Josh Onomah (26), most recently played in the championship for Preston

Adam Forshaw (31) just left Leeds, loads of experience at champ and premier league level, no idea of his injury history or qualities.

Matty Longstaff (23) left Newcastle, scored a screamer on his debut for them but not done much since, was on loan at a couple of league two sides the last couple of years. Right age but maybe not as good as his early promise implied?

Leandro Bacuna (31) left Watford in the summer, played plenty of games in the champ and some in the prem for Cardiff, Villa and Reading

Luke Amos (26) left QPR in the summer after a few years, possibly more of a defensive midfielder?

Stefan Johansen (32) left QPR in the summer, was a beast in that Fulham midfield a few years back, no idea if he’s still got it.

Sean Goss (27), left Motherwell after a couple of years in the Scottish prem. formerly played league one at Shrewsbury. Is 6ft 3in so would add another physical presence to the spine, know nothing else about him.

Cameron McGeehan (28), he’s an interesting one, been playing in Belgium’s top flight for 3 years, before that played league one and two football for Portsmouth, Barnsley and Luton. Scored double figures in a couple of his league two seasons for Luton and 6 one season for Barnsley in league one. 4 goals in 21 games last season.

Dennis Adeniran (24) left the Wendies in the summer. Looks to have been a squad option for them playing mid 20s for appearances in the last couple of seasons, unless down to injury? Good age and might not have high demands.

Jamie McGrath (26) left Wigan the other day after cancelling his contract on legal grounds. Goals and assists from midfield in the Scottish Premiership, current Irish international.

Sam Clucas (32) left Stoke, good player for Hull and Swansea a few years back, can play left side of defence. (As a side note my phone autocorrected his surname to Clubcard for a moment, other supermarket loyalty schemes are available.)

    Jack Colback (33) 🤮

There are others, I got bored and also moaned at by the Mrs, but mainly bored. I looked for players UK based or likely to qualify to play in the UK rather than any of the European options as realistically I don’t think we fish in those waters even if we should.

Great shout and I'd be amazed if we've not approached him but ,sadly,I don't think we'd be able to meet his wages.

Radcliffe was brought in for our U21 side - let him have a season there and call upon him when needed. He can also play CB, apparently, so if we're not bringing in another then he becomes cover for one of the three positions there too.

Agreed,Jake Buxton needs to work his "magic" on him now he's the lead coach. They need bolstering after last season.

Cant imagine Ipswich wanting Barkhuizen or valuing Sibley at 500k, Maybe something like that could work for Nombe at exter, but I’d offer Barkhuizen on a permanent + Radcliffe on loan and next to no fee.

Agree with the comments apart from Radcliffe, think he offers us something.Wouldn't be too fussed to see Sibley go.

I doubt very much many if any of the club owner to the managers and coaches to the playing staff are still here from when Waghorn was here plying his trade so not sure what kind of advantage it is for him knowing where the home dressing room is over other players.

Bit of a churlish comment from you for a change! Just to satisfy your pedantry it's a reflection of the fact that he's aware of the club and its expectations, the clubs traditions ,the supporters fanaticism and I ,for one, won't forget his celebrations outside the ground after his brace against Sheff Wed a couple of seasons back. He wore the shirt with pride and it's nothing less  than ii'd expect from him.

To be fair Waghorn for me is more like Didzy as could easily drop in to a 10 role and isn’t just a striker

I don’t think Waghorn would be a terrible signing at all on a 1 year contract

My thoughts exactly-knows the club, works hard and can cover 2/3 positions.Good squad player, especially at this level. We all know what he can't do but as Brian Clough used to say about his signings," I've signed him for what he can do!"

  13. 3 minutes ago, Diego said:

I was never a huge Waghorn fan, but could sign him on a cheap wage play him in pizza cup, be our 5/6th choice striker.

Have him round the place for a season. Risk free.

Part of me screams no and part of me thinks ,he's a free transfer, knows the club inside out, gives his all and he's physically able for this level.Interesting call
