Rare to have a young CB so comfortable  and composed on the ball. The odd mistake is to be expected, but really he outperformed expectation 10-fold last season. I know people want to see him out on loan, but we're playing 3 at the back so he and Forsyth are our only cover at the moment. We could do with one more anyway, loan him out and we probably need two more. 
I'd keep him around - loaning him out creates a needless problem.

£1.75mil to £2 mil is a fair price for someone with only 1 year left. If there’s a sell on % then all the better.
This will also be a boost to P&S figures down the line. Also it will hopefully allow funds to be used on a forward that we may not have hat the money for without this income.

Great but if business. No fee paid up front. Just a sell on clause. Shorter contract probably due to injuries and as it’s free we’re really not losing anything. If he does well we’ll probably extend. Shrewd

I cannot see why a club would hold for 3 weeks for an additional 100-150k taking into account wages, cost in negotiation , potential injury,  a loss of a transfer target they may need cash in for.   Then come out 50-75 k better off.  Therefore, I think it entirely plausible that this tiny upgrade in offer with a minimal add on came about following our managers interview as a take it or leave it end game knowing they were in the drivers seat.
