No composure at all from one of them. Crewe have defended ok but its easy they just camp in the box and put bodies in the way. Making this far too easy for them. Tactics are entirely on Warne but the technical ability and decision making is player related

Its just not playing to our strengths is it? Baffling tactics. Bypass Bird entirely. NML looked more dangerous just now coming in. He can't cross for toffee hogging that touchline.

I've always thought he was just dossing in this league. This is a player who shone in the playoff final against Lampard's side not long ago and when we signed him I thought like someone else on here said he could/should be the best player in this league with his ability. In reality he shows that ability in 1 in 4 games and then just looks okay the rest of the time. Obviously would be missed because we're light on numbers and he's not a bad player but I'm not convinced he's putting it all in. Won't be here after next summer anyway so only delaying the inevitable if its not true.

My issue with Wash is he hasn't been fit until recently which isn't necessarily his fault its Warne's and the recruitment side. Why was a player who was so short on fitness a priority signing? Same with Bradley. Its set us back months into the season and was obvious from very early on in the season when Wash didn't feature during pre-season. Northampton were very poor, like couldn't even be bothered poor not just lack of talent. One of the worst sides I've ever seen us play against.

Wass back until the end of the season to steady the ship? Not very ambitious but considering the precarious situation with most of the first team out of contract next summer and unlikely to be many incoming in January it makes some sense to have a clean slate (again) next summer for somebody new.

Time to end this once and for all. We could have had 3 strikers on the pitch it wouldn’t have stopped our GK throwing the ball into our own net to go 2 down 😂
Can you imagine if we'd gone up with Roos in goal 😬😬

I was surprised Warne took the Derby job, mainly because he was so bitter about us staying up at Rotherham's expense. With subs like those I find myself questioning if he's deliberately sabotaging us as revenge, it sounds stupid but its the only plausible explanation other than he's just clueless.

Sounds like he’s about to burst into tears. Also sounds like he’s trying to convince himself it wasn’t that bad.
He’s also pointed to us not being able to bring in players for fees… a shambles really. He chose to go chasing championship players on big wages rather than league 2/1 players on the up (gambles) for a small fee and lower wages
The gamble was on the fitness of some of those Championship players. Sorry but they aren't dropping to league 1 because they want to be part of this 'project' whatever that is, its because they are regressing and riddled with fitness concerns and nobody from the Championship fancies them.

David Clowes is a football fan and an intelligent business man. I'm really not sure how he is looking at the way Warne is making use of the club resources provided and coming to the conclusion he should stay in his post.
If the only reason Warne is still in a job is the length of his contract then that represents a bad business decision.
The last bit in a nutshell. Appreciate its hindsight and nobody will want to point the figure at Clowes and its understandable but giving Warne a contract that long was risky and we're probably stuck now. Hopefully Clowes learns from this experience.

I've said this before but I do fear motivation is a factor in how we are consistently rubbish against 'lesser' sides, Burton excepted which is a local Derby. Its their cup final and a reminder of how far we've sunk for us. Carlisle was bloody hard work for the 2-0. We look okay against the Pompey's and Bolton's etc of this league. One of the issues with signing older league droppers, its just another pay cheque on a short contract and we only seem to get solid shows from Bird, Cash and Fozzy where there's no questioning the commitment to DCFC.

Isn't Paul Warne supposed to be a league 1 specialist?
Lord Varys and his little birds have more penetration than Warne and his big Max Bird.
He's a Rotherham specialist

I find it slightly curious the talk of us being in a strong position around the first team recovery. The way I see things we've mostly signed very short term options and virtually the entire first team squad are out of contract next summer.

Ipswich spent millions in league 1 to get them out of the division, we have relied on frees and short term deals this summer!
Warne can only work with the squad that he’s got and there is a massive wage in Sonny Bradley who is sat in the bench week in and week out! The recruitment is the problem this year. Oxford brought in Ruben Rodrigues and Harris, two players we could have easily attracted!
Sorry but thats bull. He's clearly a huge part in the recruitment and in Sonny and his best mate Wash we've signed two of the worst in recent memory. Probably the two biggest earners to boot.

I am starting to wonder if there's a motivation thing at play too. We've actually been unlucky in big games against Pompey and Bolton and obviously got good results away at Blackpool and Peterborough. Burton is easy to explain as its our local Derby for the forseeable unfortunately. But today and Cambridge and even the laboured wins over Fleetwood and Carlisle make you wonder if a) are some of these league droppers up for this and b) if not can Warne get them motivated?
-
Worried about their overload in midfield? The side who hadn't scored a league goal before today had Warne worried? This is us in a nutshell we get worried about teams we are miles better than. Respect them by all means but just play our game and beat them with the superior quality

Well, for a start, it's just football, so any sense of shame is likely misplaced.
If by some stratch of the the imagination, Warne does feel shame, I am not sure which specific actions he took today will have caused it.
On a day when countries in the middle east went to war and people in this country have been flooded out of their home, you people need to get a grip.

My take is if Warne hadn't got lucky inheriting McGoldrick last season we'd have been mid table mediocrity which is roughly where we're on track for this season. But he's probably got the wage bill of a top 2 side even with the restrictions. Nowhere near good enough.

Might as well have taken Paul Chuckle from Rotherham and left Warne there.

Crewe Alexandra versus Derby County - Match Day Thread ( FA Cup 1st Round )

This is a very very ordinary Crewe side make no qualms about it. They'd be rock bottom in our league. For all the possession which Crewe are happy for us to have this is up there with our worst efforts this season considering the opposition
