It's quite hard to see how things can be quite that bad whilst Mel is around. He's spent a lot, obviously doesn't want to spend any more, but is still apparently able to put in enough to keep the club afloat if needed.
As a fan, I can't see him letting the club fold for the sake of a few million, especially as the situation has been caused by him. Then there's the 'local' offer, which surely has to be better than liquidation.
If he can't sell, I can see a fire sale and the academy closing. We'd be uncompetitive, but that's better than being an ex-club.
Then there's the question of who would put us into administration? Gabay or MSD would lose far more if the club folded. I think this is bit of unfounded speculation.
My only slight concern is why no season ticket renewals yet? OK, things are up in the air, but getting some cash flow for the summer must be a priority.

Can’t see Rotherham taking more than 6 points so one win will clinch it. Shame we’ll lose to Wednesday thus allowing them to stay up.

I hope they re-advertise his job because I'm bloody amazing at drinking tea, watching football and being ignored.

we are waiting on the EFL, nothing more the club or Erik can do

We have done this deal the opposite way round to the Sheikh. Mel has seen everything he wants and needs to sell the club before going to the EFL, I also believe Alonso has paid a deposit too.
Not its down to the EFL checks which arent simply about just proof of funds. The EFL have someone new in Birch leading these checks so I expect they will be thoroughly carried out. When Wigan got to this stage the final EFL checks took a few weeks I believe. This doesnt mean anything dodgy is going in terms of the potential buyer just that the rights checks are being made. Wigans deal eventually went through.
Id rather weeks of thorough checks than just needing proof of funds and authorising the sale within 48 hours.

Really worried now. Preston game is the most important game we will play in more than a decade. Forget about matches involving playoffs etc.. We have to WIN! Not draw not lose. Win we still have a chance. Anything else you can forget playing the red dogs for the next few years. For the first time in many years I feel we have blown it. However, whichever league we are in I will support this club, whoever is owning, managing or playing next season. Must be mad but since a boy THIS is MY TEAM and I will support it through thick and thin. COYR

On current form we deserve to be relegated to League 1 we are a crap team with a very inexperienced manager and coaching team, we have a owner who hasn't been interested in us for 2 seasons and who's legacy will be he took us to League 1. After 46 games the championship table doesn't lie and if were in the bottom 3 then we only have the team/manager/owner to blame. I for one after 50 years of supporting the club through good and bad times have become totally disillusioned with the club. I can only see 1 win out of the last 4 games against Sheffield Wednesday at the last game of the season and by then it maybe to late. Preston, Birmingham, Swansea defeats.

Really need a huge favour from Forest & Birmingham this weekend, if they both win we're in the same position as before we lost tonight only with 1 game less to play and be caught

IMO after tonight we are in huge danger of relegation now.
So sad .

Cornwall Ram, I don't worry about it myself, knowing that if there is anything bad to report you'll be all over it like a rash. You'll really enjoy telling us all you told us so!

We won't go down. Rotherham won't get many more points. We've still got a cushion. We'll take points off Brum and Wednesday. Fortunately, this is a terrible division so we'll stay up.

Ta ta championship. Thanks a lot Wisdom for the six or seventh time this season. We are done. This team won't get another point this season. Normal charge of the light brigade for the last few minutes. We're you for the previous 60.
Feel sorry for Byrne, Clarke and Shinnie, but they'll be in this league next season at least.

It reads like Rooney swept in on a white stallion and has rescued us. Completely ignoring that he and his coaching staff were all part of a team being bottom! Rooney was supposedly our star, but he was overweight, out of shape and barely interested in fighting at the start of this season. He has to take some responsibility for our league position that he inherited. This mess is on the players too and Rooney was part of that. If anything he helped make his own job harder.

This thread seems more about academy finances rather than any Spanish-based takeover.
As for the takeover, I think Kieran McGuire is always desperate to appear in the know and has embarrassed himself over Derby on several occasions. A self-appointed "football-finance expert", he seems the only source for a link to Raja Oktohari, probably because McGuire does his research on Twitter and has seen the two together. And hopes for a Barry the Ram style scoop.
I am dubious that the takeover will happen. After having his fingers burnt by the fake Sheikh, Mel has surely demanded solid proof of funds. But why would Alonso want to buy us when Championship Clubs are a guaranteed way of ending up with a small fortune? But only if starting out with a large fortune.

Shame there isn’t an academy thread.?
Getting back to the potential takeover,
Fact : No limits sports ltd have agreed terms to buy DCFC.
Fact: Due diligence has been completed and the SPA signed.
Fact : A deposit has been paid and proof of funds has been seen by Mel’s lawyers.
Fact: We are waiting on EFL approval for the takeover.
Have I missed anything ?

The playing academy players edict is why we are in the mess we are at the moment .
I suspect Rowett left because of it.
Lampard was irritated by it.
Cocu adhered to it and got sacked

What concerns me are four key things.
1) our defending from set pieces- in our last 3 games we've been woeful defending from set pieces, Luton, Reading, and Norwich have all had 2 or more chances from corners or crossed free kicks. We've given away numerous free headers and have had a few lucky handballs waved away- against teams like Preston, Birmingham etc. this is a critical area we need to tighten up on.
2) Our lack of creativity- It's not only that we don't score many we don't create many guilt edge chances either. We are too often reliant upon a shot 20 yards out to get a goal rather than creating 1 vs 1's or a clear shot inside the box. We're chronically poor in our chance creation and composure in the final third.
3) Our lack of goals- CKR is quickly reverting back to the player we thought we'd signed after his initial purple patch. Apart from him we have Gregory who doesn't ooze goals either- essentially we've got 2 strikers whose skill set is pretty much exactly the same (great at hold up not to so great at scoring). Our wide players and midfielders don't contribute much to the goal tally either- at this point I'd welcome back Waghorn just because he can take a good freekick now and again.
4) Our current form- Our form has absolutely nosedived in the past dozen games or so. We're simply not winning games or getting enough points on the board atm and we've got 5 games to turn it around. We played well in the second half against Norwich and Luton but I can't remember the last time we looked solid and played well for 90 minutes. Both Blackburn and Preston are in as bad as form as us so winning at least 1 of these games is imperative but I can't say I'm confident we will.

Quite frightening...

Worrying thing is that while we keep saying 'We played well, we deserved a point' other teams around us seem better at actually winning points.
