A little bit of magic can win you a game, but a squad wins you a league. To answer your question directly though Waghorn had some magic in him at Peterborough, Smith had some magic in him at Blackpool, NML is a very exciting player when utlised correctly and Hourihane can change a game with his goals from distance. We have players that at this level are good enough to turn a game around with some individual brilliance (Sibley who has won games with his talent in the Championship, Barkhuizen to add another).
In our squad we have got players who have played at or above League One level and multiple players who have won promotion from League One. Despite our financial situation over the last couple of seasons and our lack of ability (or willingness this summer) to pay transfer fees, we are not scrapping around in the bargain bin by League One standards. Our wage budget is one of, if not the highest in the league but our position does not currently reflect any of the above.
Mid-table would be an abject failure based on the squad we have and the relative quality of everyone else in League One as it stands.

Also, Warne may have seen the light or even the comments on this forum about his 3 centrebacks with wingbacks that produced dire football and bad results. We look so much better with 4 at the back, which we played in most games last season during that 15 match unbeaten run. And did he get lucky picking up Waggy through Fozzy wanting him at his testimonial match, then Rooney getting injured and others in that position also crocked he gambled on bringing in Nyambe.
Perhaps he got lucky at Rotherham getting those 3 promotions and being at a smaller club was restricted in improving the squad, hence getting relegated twice. With 7 years in management under his belt, now is his time to prove that he can be successful. Get Derby Promotion and keep us in the Championship and maybe beyond.
But please Mr Warne no more 3 at the back with wingbacks, with the players we have lets stick with 4-4-2 or 4-3-3.

If we play to the same standard in our remaining fixtures like we did against Blackpool, then yes we will be champions.

All of those managers even Rowett managed to pass and move. Warne's team does it sometimes, but it's a struggle and does he really want them to?
I don't think you can be critical of those managers attempts at playing football. It seems because we're in League 1 it is acceptable to play the turgid messy football that we do play, because Warne is an expert at promotion. We've gone around and around, he's so not a long-term manager for this club, I cannot understand what would be achieved in him sticking around longer.
I think Warne was happy with the chummy small club atmosphere, little pressure, little ambition that the job at Rotherham gave him. He can't have wanted the pressure he gets now?

We played Cambridge, who missed relegation by one point last season, we should be beating teams of their standards if we want to be in the promotion mix. Especially at home where under Warne we have only won 2 league games since the begining of March. Yes that 11 matches with just 2 wins, both a miserly 1-0 result.

He's already stumbled on a gem with Ryan Nyambe, would'nt be with us if Rooney, Ward etc were fit. What we need now is a few injuries to the forward line and we might see Dajaune Brown put in the team. And maybe Warne might have stumbled on a goalscorer.

Nobody expects opposition teams to capitulate and it's nonsense to suggest that's what I meant.
What I expect is our management team to better utilise the superior budget and squad of players that they have at their disposal. That is not currently happening. I'd be happy to advocate for patience if I had any sign that things are getting better.

I really appreciate how we tried to play the game yesterday. It was one of the best performances I've seen at home for awhile under this manager and we was unlucky with the draw. I get the feeling this is too little too late for many supporters.
The home form is rubbish and has been for most of this year. I did think yesterday Warne woke up to the realisation that we have to control matches better. And on the whole I thought we looked dominant. But this should have been our game plan from the first whistle in August. He has bought more experienced players in the summer who don't possess a great deal of pace and power. Why did he suddenly think in the summer that an older squad could play more counter attacking football. With the technical footballers at his disposal, a controlled possession based plan was more than likely the best outcome this season.
Early in the season, a 7 point gap to close already for the top 2, he's slowly running out of games in my view from an already frustrated fan vase. Each silly result chips away at his armour. If they carry on with a similar performance from yesterday and we have injured players returning, we're definitely a look in for the top 6. I just don't want Warne to give in so easily and revert back to his beloved wing back garbage system which has failed time and time again, otherwise we won't be going anywhere fast apart from plodding along in midtable.

....yes, and on another day they did go in, which (kind of) made them less likely to go in on this day.
We beat Peterborough essentially because every chance that fell Waghorn's way, he took. That was an anomaly, and as was stated at the time, not something we can rely on happening again.  This followed games against Oxford and Fleetwood where he had also been more clinical than usual.
    Normality has since resumed.
We've not got prolific strikers on the books; typically Waghorn, Washington, Collins will need 3-5 'good' (if not more) chances to score 1 goal. Waghorn & Collins missed 'headed sitters' in yesterday's game... but each was their ONLY chance of the match, so what is anyone expecting?
It's almost like we need our strikers to have an 80-100% conversion rate to get anywhere with Warne. Those strikers don't exist in League One. Even McGoldrick missed a few easy headers last season.
If we're only creating 3-4 good chances in a month's worth of football, with known-to-be patchy strikers getting on the end of them, you can't just turn around and say "on another day those chances go in" as an excuse for dropped points - we need to create more chances in the first place!

Every week, every dropped point, every poor performance a percentage of our fan base shift to Warne out.
Sometimes I get a feeling when the shift moves to when not if a manager loses too many fans for his position to be tenable.
I'm patient and back managers, but it is getting hard to do.
If we put feelers out to someone like carsley and he said he wants the job I would be all over it.

We have been like this since Wycombe away last season. I was hoping id seen shoots of a recovery last 2 games but i really didnt. For all the people who say we played well...Wildsmith made more saves than Cambridge's keeper. We have won 2 out the last 14 at home. Burton and Fleetwood. Both 1-0. Burton win was a penalty. Its a year in now and Warne's best players are still the ones Rosenoir brought in or had coached before he became manager. The substitutions today were an absolute joke. For a team sitting deep...what does Washington offer? For Sibley to come on and play wide tells u everything. Barkhuizen taken off??? Why??? I know hes been out a while but...Why???...Bored and see nothing but bland nothingless. Does Stevie Mac fancy Part 3??? That Rosenoir is doing ok too. One for the future that lad.

How he brought nearly an entirely new squad in and had them playing his style by the start of the season was very impressive. Yes, we sometimes over passed but I’m sure with time he would have sorted that out.
For all he did during administration and helping us get back on our feet I wish we’d have given him the season.
