I really dont know what people are expecting....do you really think we are in a position to buy a atriker who has bagged goals for fun over the last couple of seasons? Look at the prices of Stansfield & Osula of examples of how alot of money doesnt get you a great deal.
Some people really have short memories & really need to stop judging strikers off just their recent scoring records. What else they bring to the team is just as important, like a CKR or Martin. Woodrow might not have scored loads recently, but if he had he would be nowhere near our radar.
How about judge them on what they do in a Rams shirt, he could be the missing piece to our attacking play that helps it all click.
I certainly wouldnt mind him joining us.

You can’t seriously expect us to be signing a ready-to-go striker who’s been banging them in in recent seasons and can come straight into the team? The going rate for that in this league starts at £5m, and we don’t have that cash. And half the league would be trying to sign them - why on earth would they choose us?

We have to be clever, and try and find value where others don’t see it. A striker like Woodrow who hasn’t played loads in recent years but has scored lots in the past, and is still only 29, is the perfect example.

Basically what’s now been published by Nixon - we enquired about him but been rebuffed until they get suitable replacements.

Personally, I’m disappointed we aren’t in for Taylor as his re-sale value will rocket with a selection of goals in Championship. Woodrow wouldn’t have that as a loan or a permanent at the end. However, we’re needing a taller focal point rather than a smaller striker.

    Why?
Do you have information suggesting he’d be better after good spells in league 2 and conference?

I suspect Woodrow would have scored more than Langstaff down at that level. Smith would have banged in a hatful too.

It’s clear to me the club are after a striker that does more than just finish the moves off; they’re after a player who can bring people into play and be a focal point.

So looking at the clubs Nixon has listed I thought I would have a look at the Prem teams listed to see who we could potentially be after on loan....I am assuming here that our story is relating to a Prem loan -

    Brighton

Andrew Moran - 20 year old attacking mid who can also play on either wing. Spent last season on loan at Blackburn, scoring 2 goals & getting 6 assists.

Mark O'Mahony - 19 year old centre forward, who made 3 Prem sub appearances last season. Brighton looking to loan him to a Champ club for the season.

    Chelsea

Bashir Humphreys - 21 year old left footed centre back, was on loan last season at Swansea & unlikely to feature for Chelsea so another Champ loan could be a possibility

Omari Kellyman - 18 year old left footed attacking mid who can play right wing, just had a big move from Villa but unlikely to feature for Chelseas forat tema given the number of players they have. Came through our academy so a return could be possible
Cesare Casadei - 21 year old attacking mid who can play in the 8 or 10 like Warne wants. He spent last season on loan at Leicester & is likely to go out on loan again

Tino Anjorin - 22 year old attacking mid who has experience in the Champ & was on loan at Pompey last season

Deivid Washington - 19 year old centre forward, 6ft 1, Chelsea do want him to go out on loan, likely to be too expensive for us though

Marc Guiu - 18 year old centre forward, 6ft 2, Chelsea are meant to be looking into sending him out on loan potentially to a Champ club after they have just signed him for £6m

    Everton

Chermiti - 20 year old centre forward, 6ft 2, cost them £12.5m last summer but only made 18 appearances in the Prem with only 1 of them being a start, 196mins total played. They may look to loan him out to get some game time, whether he would be in our budget is another story. He is however 5th choice striker & can play left wing.

    Liverpool

Rhys Williams - 23 year old, 6ft 4, centre back who has Champ experience. Could be available.on a permanent as well as a loan

Owen Beck - 22 year old left back, been mentioned on here previously

    Newcastle

Alex Murphy - 20 year old, 6ft 1, left back who can also play centre back, he has made 2 Prem sub appearances

Let’s stop seeing transfer fees as money spent, for one. Middlesbrough have just invested £4m on an intangible asset, who by all accounts has fantastic potential. If he does well, even if above average at this level, the likelihood is that £4m investment returns a very healthy profit.
We don’t know what our budget is, but by the sounds of it we are going to be spending the majority of it on the loan market - which will allow us to plug the gap of quality for this coming season.
I will make this one critique of Clowes’ under his ownership of Derby County, at first team level we have become a massively short-term thinning club. We have invested money in the here and now, older players on 1,2 year deals, which I sort of got as we were in League One and wanted a quick return. However, we have done the same again this season: only Goudmijn and Zetterstrom will represent investments. Yates and Ozoh are both loans. Osborn, Jackson and Adams are for short-term pick ups, i.e little resale value. Pearce seemed to indicate we would just be in the loan market now.
We may make 10-12 signings this summer and only two can be considered investments. I personally don’t think that’s how a smart club operates. I know we are trying to change that approach and have made efforts - but the results clearly fly in the face of what we are trying to do.

We need to remember that this summer is the first time we have spent any transfer fees for 4 years, we are still a team built mainly on frees. Other teams have players on their bench who cost more than our squad cost us, for example, Szmodics comes off Blackburns bench & costs more than our whole squad fee wise when he gets sold, similar for Piroe coming off the bench for Leeds.
Our squad & starting 11 from last night will look a hell of alot different than when we play Cardiff. Ward, Yates & CBT back plus probably another 4 or 5 players, maybe more if fringe players leave like Fornah

The only conclusion that can be made so far is Oxford played a good game, Pompey dug in and managed to get a good point against Leeds who could’ve scored 7 on another day, we played a poor game. That’s it!!! It’s one f****** game!!!! I remember when Yeovil won their first match in the championship - think they finished bottom and well adrift!! It means nothing!!!

Kelvin Eibhatiomhan, 21 year old 6 foot 4 striker from Reading always looks a handful when I see him. Fast athletic and works hard. Has got an eye for goal and wins a ridiculous amount of headers. He’s in the last year of his contract and can’t imagine he’d cost a crazy amount as Reading aren’t the strongest financially. Be surprised if we haven’t looked at him as he’s got all the attributes our coaching staff like. He also scored 11 goals in 47 games last year and has 1 (should have 2 was just offside) today agaisnt Birmingham. He also would have good resale value should it work out.

Honestly reading stuff like "we're the worst team in the league" after one game is pretty embarrassing even by the standards of some of our fans. Absolute joke to be honest.
We're probably going to add about 4-5 more players at least and will have players like Ward, CBT and Yates back very soon.
2 seasons ago we came back for pre season with 5 players.
Getting out of league of league one after 2 seasons was a great achievement. Teams like Pompey, Ipswich, Sunderland etc were down there for a lot longer and had chance to properly build.
Of course it's going to be difficult. But we've played one game (we lost the first two last season and went up) and I saw more than enough yesterday to know that with a few additions we will be fine

Just got back from Blackburn. Despite the result, cracking away day and our fans were brilliant.
I thought first 10 minutes we were slow out the blocks and they came straight on to us and we struggled.
Ironically we took control and they scored. Pretty poor goal to give away. Their lad was quickest to react and I think Ozoh was half asleep.
I didn't think we were bad in the first half. We just didn't pose any threat at all. Looked fine defensively. Kenzo our best player. Couple of chances to set people away. Kenzo put a lovely ball through for Jackson who was offside when he shouldn't have been and then Wilson passed it straight out for a goal kick when it was a simple pass to set Barkhuizen away.
Second half we come out and we're on top and fully deserved the equaliser and at that point I thought we would be the team to win it.
The second goal was a catalogue of errors really. Their lad sent Elder and Collins to the shops. Inexplicable they both went to ground like that and even worse that Wilson was nowhere to be seen at the back post.
Then after that we just went to pot. The third goal was poor. I thought Vickers should have done better to be honest. It's dead centre of the goal. I'm not sitting here saying Zetterstrom saves it or anything. But I think a better keeper does.
The 4th goal we just gave them too much room.
    All 4 goals were avoidable.
We had glimpses of being a good side. Massively lacking in the final third though, which Warne knows and has alluded to many times.
NML gave the ball away so many times today and his decision making in the final third was poor.
Jackson isn't a centre forward at all. He's an option out wide and that's where he should be.
Kenzo, Ozoh (second half) and Osborn were the standouts for me.
I thought Cashin and NML were poor.
Collins came on and spent most of the game out wide chasing the ball. He's a number 9. Stay between the posts.
For me we need the keeper, centre back, left back, attacking midfield/Number 10 and a striker.
I thought Warne was absolutely spot on in his interview. Nice to score from set pieces but we didn't create enough in the final third.
No reason to panic yet. See what the rest of the window has in store.
Disappointed Radio Derby didn't bother to ask Warne about signings.

Yh true he’d never be able to sign players like other clubs do, players like
An exciting young centre mid from Netherlands
    A Swedish international goalie
    a premier league experienced midfielder
a young talent who multiple clubs also wanted on loan
players like that would never sign for us because of warne.

The goalkeeper will be here next week so that's one.
Then for me we need a centre back, a striker, a number 10, another winger and a left back.
We said we wanted 12 and we've signed 6.
Clowes said we had a competitive budget. Which was said before we had the £2.7 million from the Kelleyman, Delap and Bogle sell ons.
That money has been spent on Zetterstrom, Goudmijn and Adams.
Clowes also said he was excited by what was to come. Watching that as a fan last night he will know how much we need strengthening.
Whilst I'm not expecting us or wanting us to be spending millions on a player. A competitive championship budget to me is a mid tableish budget.
