It's just the feeling I have. He is a rookie, he's been a part of the coaching staff over the last few years where we haven't been able to buy a win away from home. He's a great guy as everyone has said but I just don't think he has the steel or grit needed at the moment. I think we need a proper experienced manager to get us out this league this season.

I might get some pelters here but personally I think the potential appointment of Paul Warne is possibily the best option available to us at this stage of our " rebirth ".

LR clearly was influential in WR's team, some even suggested he was THE tactician in the set-up. Our away form was woeful last season, and continues to be so. There's absolutely no chance of promotion repeatedly making the same mistakes away from home.

If you've not listened the the BBC podcast Moment Of Truth, where he and Oxford's Karl Robinson were mic'ed up for the second half of last season, I suggest you do. He is a supreme man manager. Direct yes - very!  A complete sweary-Mary, but he can get players to run through brick walls for him. He knows what levers to pull for each of his players. I think we're all agreed we have one of the better squads in our division, but Paul Warne has done much more with lesser players and less than half our budget in this division. I listened to the podcast and did think he would be just the sort of motivator that would be ideal for us at this level. As much as I admire LR's loyalty , if you've ever seen the cameras in the dressing room, he's very vanilla and I'd even suggest uninspiring .

" But he plays hoofball doesn't he, Paul Warne? " I hear some cry. He plays with what he's got and the budget he's got.  I think he'd be licking his lips at the opportunity to work with our squad. One thing I'd be confident of, based on what I've heard of him when he was mic'ed ( is that even a word? ) up is that nothing will be left on the pitch. He demands it from every player.

I'll take that with our squad. If we're not good enough in the final analysis, I'll accept that. But it won't be for the lack of Paul Warne pushing them to their limits and accepting anything less than 100% from every player. Oh, and his track record in this division isn't too shabby, so he's not all talk.

I like everything David Clowes has done so far, measured, not knee-jerk, but I believe he's seen enough to be brave when change is needed.

We will certainly be in for a hell of a ride if we do appoint him.

DC, you've got huge gonads Sir. I applaud you.

    It’s obvious scaremongering.
The vast majority of Derby fans believe we should be a footballing side, so naturally any manager who deviates from that even slightly will be talked down. Even though in real terms, Billy Davies is the only manager to have a degree of success with us since the turn of the century.
Cocu and Lampard raised the roof. Pearson and Rowett were treated with suspicion. So too now is Warne.
I prefer to look at Warne’s record and the circumstances he was working under. To me, everything points to him having done a good job at Rotherham and showing skill in what he was asked to do.
Will he be a success here? Who knows? But he has had success in League 1. He has got a team out of this league three times in three attempts. This is positive, no? What has Rosenior done by comparison?
So surely if you put concerns about style to one side, Warne is the safer bet.

Sadly, I got that too. A good coach, a decent tactician - at times, but the fundamentals of management are getting the best out of all your players on a consistent basis. Some employ brutality, shock tactics, some use good cop bad cop, but ultimately you've got to motivate players on a regular basis.

Clever analysis, the professeur approach, may work at the highest level, but at the Championship level and below, it mostly works at managing everyone individually, carrot and stick in equal measure. We have the tools in our playing staff, we need someone to orchestrate them like a conductor.

    That's management at our level.

FWIW I heard that Rosenior was unlikely to carry on before the Wycombe game, hence my comments when we went down. Was told the job was his before the Plymouth and Lincoln games, but players lost faith following those games. Situation needed resolving, so I’m glad it had been.
Warne is a coup imo, and will hopefully get us out this league.

I find some of the complaints about Warne, and the defences of Rosenior a little conflicting.
On the one hand, the football we play isn’t working because we don’t have good enough players to pass their way through teams at this level.
At the same time, Warne won’t work because we play neat, passing football. It’s one or the other really, we have a good squad so what kind of football are we well suited to?
For what it’s worth, there is a difference between being direct and playing hoofball. Being direct just means getting the ball forward quickly. We have pace out wide, big strikers and midfielders who can pass. Those together add up pretty well for direct football.
It’s a gamble, but I think it’s less of a gamble than keeping LR if we really want promotion this year. A lot of work was done in the summer but that would’ve happened whatever the manager. Would we have ended up with a vastly different squad if Warne joined at the start of the summer? I doubt it. We had a limited pool of players we could go for under our current restrictions, so I don’t think the squad being largely built by a different manager will be a massive issue.
If we do play less attractive football but spend less time trapped in the third tier, then that’s good with me.
Edit: For what it’s worth, I’ve just checked at Rotherham scored 70 goals last season in League 1, averaging 1.5 a game. We are currently scoring 1.0 goals a game. We should technically be more dangerous in the final third, if we’re going on which style yields more goals.

Can’t see how Clowes has done much wrong here. I’d say at least 1/3 signings were eyed up and pencilled in by Rooney/Rosenior. If Clowes didn’t go for LR at the start there’s no guarantee they sign.

Then it’s a rush job to identify a managerial target and convince them to join.

Harsh on LR without doubt but personally I’ve not seen enough to suggest he’s the man to take us up. No doubt he’s a footballing man and maybe a good coach but our standards are high. Maybe he’d do better in the hot seat at a club like Exeter. Where he can learn his trade for a few seasons and get the time to make his mistakes.

If we're 10th at Christmas then we must improve for the second half of the season. A manager change won't be necessary.
Rosenior was interim. He hasn't been sacked from anything because the job was never his. It's only some fans who have built up this narrative.
I don't think the change has anything to do with league position. We're still relatively early in the season, 7th place and only a handful of points from the top 2. The change has been made because the owner believes the man he is bringing in will do a better job.

We march on PP and demand Rosenior is reinstated. Can't believe our owner would have the sense to appoint an interim manager whilst he assessed the whole club, then decide a new approach would be best. Everyone is envious of our relentless pursuit to do the same thing over and over again in our excellent 3 in 30+ away wins.
I will trust our owner and not immediately herald him the new Mel because he does something bold.
