What? A player not reaching his potential because he is played out of position? At Derby County? That never happens, does it? 🙄

Sibley has had plenty of chances in what you consider his true position. Saturday for a start. He's consistent in his performances

Iirc, we didn't sign Lillis until the summer of 1986. Gee had already been at the club for almost a year by then, scoring regularly for the reserves and making his first team debut at the end of the 85/86 promotion season. Maybe that 'other' striker was Trevor Christie?

My recollection was that Cox signed Lillis intending to pair him with Bobby Davison. You may be right that we already had Gee on the books but all I was doing was drawing a comparison from history because the issue was whether we should sign both Smith and Young, so an experienced player and a young one to develop. As we know Lillis was intended to play but got injured so Gee took his place and played a big part in us getting promoted. So I think if we can we should sign both, particularly as Smith would probably be a loan

Just watched the video properly and he does look strong and clearly has some ability. Be interesting to know how much they want. Also, would Warne want him and Smith? I don't know near enough to hazard a guess at which of the two would be best suited to our immediate needs, but I'd assume it'd be either / or not both?

Buy both Mark Lillis(Smith) and Phil Gee(Young) if you are old enough to get what I'm going on about Comrade

Thing is Young is one of those we never buy though isn't he? We can all see he's got potential, someone else will sign him for cheap then punt him on to a Champ club for 3-5m in a couple of years.

Yep. Maybe this time we have learned our lessons. Lets hope so

He’ll do for me!  Exactly the sort of player we should take a punt at and develop.  Won’t be the finished article but some of the goals he’s scored in the fairly long highlights real show massive potential.

His obvious physicality is what impresses me. He's obviously at least 6' tall but is strong, quick and two footed. Get in quick Derby before someone like Peterborough or Brentford do

Is this meant to be satire?

No he’s right except for the bounce which looks great when the whole south stand and half of the rest of the ground does it like several times in the Rooney season. It’s gone a bit flat now along with the atmosphere more generally. But sorry Mull of Kintyre really works for Forest. Firstly it’s a really nice tune as opposed to the SBW mockney dirge. Secondly though it’s a nostalgic link to that period when they were winning leagues and European cups.

Maybe just don't resort to referring to him using insulting terms such as 'nothing player'... Nobody is asking you to be happy with who we sign, and you're entitled to criticism, but flippant, reductionist phrases like that are always going to wind people up. He's had a decent career, primarily playing in the second tier of English football. However you dress it up, he isn't a ''nothing player''; use your words better.

You probably haven't seen as many good players at Derby as I have and are more easily pleased. OK he's not a nothing player he's a mediocre player

Never understand how quickly and easily fans are to rubbish their own players. I can accept that certain players aren't rated but to call one of our own a 'nothing player' when someone has played over 350 league matches is ludicrous!

OK Wolfie I'll explain myself to you, and the 6 people that agree with you

Washington is 31 years old. He has had 9 clubs, and not played more that 100 league games for any of them. His most prolific period as a striker was for for St Ives town (you know the little place in Cornwall where they paint pictures) where he scored 85 goals in 102 appearances. If we just look at division 1, which is where we have signed him to play, he scored 33 goals in 94 games for Peterborough seasons 2013-2016 when he would have been between the ages of 21 to 24 ish. Now THAT Conor Washington would have been a good signing. However since then he has scored 45 goals in 228 appearances so 1 in 5

He is a bargain bucket, short term signing like far too many. He is an ageing player who has never been great, as his stats show and like Waghorn is very likely to pick up injuries like he has and Waghorn has. As an ageing player he is going downhill now, he's not somebody we can build any sort of future around.  We desperately need to be recruiting some 21 year old Conor Washington types from places like St Ives Town or maybe, heaven forbid, being even being a bit more ambitious than the likes of Peterborough - given that we probably have 3 times their support base - and going a bit higher up the food chain than that

Taking his name out of it I’d be interested to hear we were looking at signing a 20 year old midfielder, who’s a youth international that came through United’s academy and has been playing league one football this season with 4 goals and 1 assist across 28 appearances in all competitions.
It fits the profile of who I’d want us to be signing, younger players with potential for their ability on the pitch as well as their re-sale value to the club.

Totally agree. I want to see us start building for the future, no more stop gap signings

A few weeks ago Robbie spoke how he and his wife were worried about Charlie with the concern of him not getting paid having taken on all the responsibilities of moving out and away from home.As any parents would be for their kids

Well at least he is better placed than most parents financially to help his lad out. I hope we sign him anyway

The most John-Jules has played in a season is 23 games, back in 2021. Since then, he's managed 13, 21, and currently 11.

In Gerrard's debut season (aged 18), he made just 13 appearances (debut in November) but never missed more than 3 games in a row. The following season, he made 31 appearances, with a 4 game spell out of the team, 2 games out at the end of the season and a couple of single games scattered throughout. In 00/01 (aged 20), he made 50 appearances, never missing more than 1 game in a row. The year after, it was another 45 appearances, with a 3 game spell out injured. In 02/23 (aged 22), he featured 54 times, missing 3 league games in total due to injuries.

Gerrard's injury 'troubles' are in no way comparable to Gerrard's.

Fancy going to all that trouble ferreting out those facts then making that blunder at the end lol
