I don't see the need to rush and think it's too early. He's done some good things and some bad things. I'd like to see more of the good things and have us much higher up the table (as a consequence) before making things permanent. Hopefully he'll get us there.

OK So what will you say if someone offers him a job next week and he goes? Who else would we get? You have to back your judgement in football and life generally otherwise you end up looking back thinking about what might have been

What amazes me is that we made a number  of changes to the side but played as though we hadn’t! We were just as expansive, just as keen to get forwards as ever, which shows a great consistency throughout the squad. Well done, that Rosenior!

Max showed us the benefit of not taking a touch, or not letting the ball bounce but shooting as soon as the chance is there. What a goal!!!

Sibbo’s goal was also good - Odhuro’s pass, NML being NML, and the finish. And we got lucky with the first goal. When does that ever happen for Derby? Perhaps wr could do with scooping a bit of that luck up and pouring it over Collins, so he ends scoring off his shoulder, backside or whatever!

Also I can’t wait to see Rooney and Cashin in a central defence partnership - what a thought to savour!!! MacFarland and Todd Mark 2?

Neither of them are very tall though and both would probably be better playing alongside a 6'3'' stopper

  3. I really hope we can get someone other than Gregory and different to him. I feel he is a quite similar type of player to Collins, not particularly tall, not particularly strong, not particularly quick and getting on a bit. Actually getting on a lot. I'd like to see us go for something different. If it has to be an old guy then someone big and tall who can bully defenders and head it such as Andy Carroll. Alternatively a young quick lad on loan

  4. We do have a tendency to over rate our players at times particularly young players. Its extremely early days to be drawing conclusions about Jake but he looks good. I enjoyed watching them last night, it was a training match for them. Fitness and team organisation is coming on all the time and at the same time we are still getting results. I think we have grounds to be very optimistic for this season, I see no reason at all why we cant get automatic promotion

What baffles me is that we have this player Sibley, who the management have steadfastly ignored almost to the point of bullying...and not one single fan has noticed or pointed out what he could bring to the team.

    Bizarre

Are you his dad or something? Nobody is being 'bullied'. Football is a results business and believe me if he had performed well consistently he would be first on the teamsheet

Taking a more straightforward view of how Knight has done in the games so far without all of the tactical machinations, I think Knights been OK but not out of this world. Defensively he hasn’t really been beaten much on the outside as his tenacity enables him to get tackles in. However, there have been quite a few occasions where he drops right off an shows the opposition wide player inside with a lot of distance between him and the man. What I’ve noticed in L1 is the wide man just send in crosses for the striker and they don’t cut inside and shoot as often as they do in the championship. Knight did this at Charlton in the 1st half which needed an excellent save from Wildsmith to prevent a goal and there have been examples of this in all the other games . Going forward he has done Ok again but nothing more than I’d expect from a RB in our team and the way we play. I agree with previous comments about him being an international midfielder and getting him back in the middle of the park.

On another note it’s seems that it’s a given that Hourihane has an automatic starting berth. Whilst he scored the winner against Oxford and has produced a few lovely deliveries in to the box, I’ve been a bit disappointed in his overall performances. It’s early days but I would like to see a midfield trio of Bird, Knight and Sibley given a try. If we are struggling to break teams down (which is a reoccurring theme for us) we could bring on Hourihane as quarter back sub and go a bit more direct late on to try and mix it up a bit, which would definitely feel like a genuine plan B.

I agree with your comments about Hourihane. My only thoughts on sticking with him are that it’s a fitness thing and he needs a run of games

  7. Your initial post was excellent Brady and follow my thoughts on this too. However I do think you acknowledged but then quickly moved on from the other main potential option playing exactly this system and that is to swop Knight and Smith. Knight would give us more value than Smith does in midfield I think, particularly goal scoring but also all round involvement in the play. But Smith, a decent midfielder who has also crucially played right back for some of his career could in my opinion slot in very effectively to the role Knight is currently playing. I don't think the 'coaching time' is a deal breaker with that

The way the full backs have started is tactically very different from the previous few years . As we are playing with two wide forwards their role is very much tucked in to a midfield position to add numbers in the centre , which is why it suits Knight and Roberts.

Therefore is right back really a priority ? Someone other than McGoldrick or Dobbin to take the workload etc off Collins would look to be the priority.

    Exactly
