People who video important events on their mobile rather than actually experiencing them.
The Leicester City parade thing was on the TV's at the gym last night & I found myself getting irritated by the number of players walking around the stage filming it and then standing there tapping away on the phones, presumably updating Twitter or whatever. I'm sure the same would have happened regardless of which club it was & it happens everywhere now.
Just put the phone down!. It's on TV. Thousands of fans have come to see you and you're typing on your phone. Stupid.
It was the same with the athletes at the Olympics opening ceremony. This is maybe the biggest thing they are ever going to do and highlight of their career and instead of taking in the moment, they're experiencing it through their cameras.

Agree with you there wolfie .. But the nice side to it for me was one of the pictures in the paper of the front of the bus .. All the Leicester boys smiling laughing with phones as usual but bottom right .. Dunno which player But just resting his arms on the front bathing in the moment without an electronic device in sight .. You can see in his eyes .. Boy this is a moment and my cerebral cortex is is going to remember this way better than any flash card
tried to like your post but it says I can't ? .. Glitch or are you on a black list

All right then ladies and gents, I've taken your advice and looked at the polls. Whilst I like the suggestions of reading the forum to unwind, the temptation to browse whilst revising would still be present, therefore I think I will get myself banned (for a month if possible). I've enjoyed my time here on the forum, I'll miss you all terribly. I hereby instruct @David, @Boycie, @Srg, @eddie and all mods and members to go **** themselves. Thanks for all the good luck messages and I'll see you in a month.

Yep, bin the forum while you get your exams done.
It's your future. The forum will still be here once you have done.
I'm sure it'll do you good too, not having to read all the whining little girls posting crap because we haven't won the league by 50 points.
    Good luck

    A couple of work gripes:
People at work who are unable to make a cup of tea unless it's really milky. Even when I ask them to just put a drop in.
People who leave the sinks full of pots or just dirty from washing their hands & the kitchen area a mess generally. There are 15 of us in the company and no daily cleaner - who exactly do they think is going to clean the mess up?. Basically it's selfishness and thoughtlessness and that winds me up wherever I see it.

Where I used to work people used to bring curry and stuff to the canteen and stink the place out with garlic, it made me gag.
People who run from the back of their check out queue when they open a new checkout so they get to the front, usually with a look like 'ooh look at me, I'm wide awake and on it, you losers'
companies that take your wad of money then refuse to communicate when you have a problem with their goods
I'm contributing far too much to this topic.

I do do it, most of the time. Emptying it is a job I hate, so if the system is followed it makes it quicker and easier to empty.
It's not rockect science. Just put all the same items together, so they can be easily grabbed and put back in the cupboards with the minimum fuss. But no, that's too hard for some people who would rather mix plates of different sizes and mix up the cutlery.
Of course now she does it for a lark just to annoy me. She's so funny.

    It's just geography surely.
Chesterfield FC is normally covered on Radio Sheffield - presumably due to the geographical proximity and Burton is the closest other league team to Derby (ignoring Nottingham, obviously). Stoke is probably closer than Chesterfield and we wouldn't want them on RD.
Also, it's radio Derby, not Derbyshire.

People who have obviously never been shopping before, who act with complete surprise when the checkout worker asks them to insert their card, wasting valuable seconds while they root around in their handbag for a purse, then shuffle through 10 cards to find the correct one.

No, we don't accept Blockbuster video cards, madam, seeing as they went bust a decade ago.
Neither do we accept Tesco club card vouchers either, seeing as you're in Sainsbury's, you tight fisted ****.
I'd honestly allow each hand held laser scanner to be loaded with a round of live ammunition, to be fired into the forehead of the 1st ******** each day to feign suprise at being asked to pay for their goods, for the good of society as a whole.

    Americanisms:
Saying May 6 instead of 6th May or May the 6th. Especially bad on film & Sport adverts
When did TV series' become seasons instead?. I hate that rather a lot.
Black Friday - for being a pointless American shopping import that just ***** up Christmas for the retailers and a stupid "brand" again.

Oh yes! No longer do I have to confine my ire to the Tony Pulis' hat thread.
    - Music being whittled down to 'the top 50 tracks of all time', 'the top 100 songs of the last 20 years', '30 riffs by Eric Clapton that influenced music in the 90's' type lists. Revisionist, look how cool I am b*llocks.
    - People, good friends, co-workers who like really rubbish films. I mean yes we could go and watch the Fast and the Furious 17 or we could watch the new Scorsese.
    - Being in a group of people, usually on holiday, that can't decide where to go for dinner and end up walking around for half an hour. No, I don't want to go to Rome and have a McDonalds.
    - Preachy vegans... otherwise known as 99% of vegans.
    - 'So called Islamic State'. What the f**k is that cop out? Just say Islamic State, it's definitely a legitimate organisation at this point in time. The BBC trying to pretend it isn't, isn't going to change things.
    - When Redcar became Redka to all news correspondents. Another victim of Matt Smith disease.
    - People who don't even try and pronounce long words/names correctly. Saying 'whatever that word is' makes you sound more of a moron .
    - The housing crisis. Seriously. Stop building 4 bed semis for £380,000 and build some nice 1 bed apartments and 2 bed houses for less than £110,000. Buy-to-letters can die a horrible syphilis-ridden death as well.
    - The five team acca becoming some sort of pillar of culture. When did wasting £10 twice a week become acceptable? You know nothing about Swindon Town, why did you put them down to win away?
    - Gym people/fun run addicts. Ok, so I'm glad people are getting fitter, but going to the gym 4 nights a week or running a 10k around Tamworth or some such Northern wasteland every weekend makes talking to you so very boring. Kale and pomegranate flavour protein shakes are not an interesting conversational topic.
    - T-shirts worn by aforementioned gym freaks that are 2 sizes too small to show off their biceps. Usually paired with a massive beard, beanie hat, skinny jeans and hi-top trainers.
    And breathe...

......following on from the annoying people thread
Why does everything nowadays have to be "dubbed as" something.
Just reading on BBC News that today has been "dubbed as 'Super Thursday'" because of the elections. Why?. By Whom?. Why do we need everything to effectively have a Brand?
Don't get me started on why every scandal has to be .....gate?
I realise it's lowest-common-demonator stuff dreamed up by a lazy media copying a USA format but it does my head in.

This forum never ceases to amaze me. I'm going through some ***** atm that I never thought would ever bother me. I'm old school, never admit I can't cope type of bloke, even now, typing this, I reckon i'm strong enough to battle through the stuff that' s going on around me yet I feel humbled by the people who've shared  their innermost fears on here.
Is it braver to battle on or admit you need help?

My entire family (both parents; older sister and younger brother), excluding myself until last year, suffer seriously from depression. I was always aware that I too had a tendency towards depression but seemed to possess an innate ability to redirect my mind towards thoughts and/or activities which averted falling into a depressive state.
Even when a close mate died of a drug overdose after years where I was the only person who remained to support him through many attempts to get, and stay, 'clean'; even after his family denied him a funeral because they didn't want anyone to know he'd been a drug addict, I sought counselling and worked with families of addicts for years afterward by way of 'processing' all that happened.
But that changed just over 12 months ago when the brain damage I had so miraculously avoided when I 'died' of a pulmonary embolism on 31/10/2007 (I was clinically dead for 45 minutes apparently, then comatose for almost a month) was diagnosed as beginning to happen. Essentially, the diagnosis was that I would likely have all of the symptoms of Alzheimer's within 5-10 years; it's fair to say that I have always been proud of my intellect and strength of mind and the diagnosis struck directly at both. I couldn't divulge the diagnosis to my family and told only a couple of my closest friends. Not long after, the family learned that my father had been gambling once again. The combination hit me badly. I called in sick to work for the week that Sunday night as I could feel - for the first time in my life - a physical weight descend around me, crushing me. I know now it was my first - and only - episode with clinical depression; in a way, I knew it then.
Later that night (I have only admitted this to one person, a mate of 20 years + who had battled clinical depression for several years), I literally started trying to think if I should end it all.
The only thing which snapped me out of the downward spiral was my dog. After spending quite some time with him (saying 'goodbye' I suppose), Ned (very unusually) disobeyed my instruction to go outside and I went ballistic at him.
Ned was terrified, the first time he'd ever cowed in front of me. Having been an abused dog when I adopted him (in April 2007) who'd become confident to the point where few could imagine he'd been a scared, abused little dog when I adopted him, that cut me to the bone. It penetrated the 'fog' around my psyche; all I really immediately understood was that his last memory of me be frightening.
I spent the rest of that night just holding Ned, trying to make it up to him and sought help the next day.
But, had he not defied me and then responded with such obvious terror of me, I honestly don't know what would have stopped me doing something stupid that night. I have no idea what would have happened to be honest; intuitively, I believe I would have found something to cling on to. That, perhaps, is convenient revisionism; all I truly understand is that, for the first time in my life, I was literally careering out of control.
Now having experienced it, I am strong again. Work has been tortuous in recent months (they've actually tried to use my future disability against me) and, if I was as vulnerable now as I was then, the outcome of recent months may not have been pretty. But I'm not. I am strong again and no one other than myself can undermine me mentally again. My sister and several close friends have proved whom I can lean on when, and if, I need it.

I take beta blockers for anxiety as they really do help the physical manifestations that I experience with anxiety.
also have CBT and councelling to help with the underlying issues. Been like this for almost 2 years. Coming out the other side now hopefully.
