  1. I’m a bit surprised that Smith wasn’t retained, given his form and partnership with Adams towards the end of the season. However, he might have been playing up to earn a new contract, either here or elsewhere. We can’t afford to hand Smith a contract and have him rest on his laurels, reverting to his pre-Christmas form. Warne probably considered the larger sample of Smiths’ work rather than just the last couple of games.

Despite his deficiencies, Smith is a good professional and deserves applause if we meet him and his new club in the cup.

  2. Whatever it takes to get back to the Prem, winning a cup competition, playing in europe/europa league before i die (29). Even if it meant blatent cheating and corruption, the dirtiest team in world football / becoming the modern iteration of the 70s Leeds teams, playing hoofball. Whatever it takes.

Rooney should have walked after that 20 game winless streak, the year he replaced Cocu. Regardless of how the next season panned out, he deserves zero accolades for it - Rosenior did all the hard work. Key to the city? Don't make me laugh.

  3. If i'm Warne, I would be telling Adams to prove he wants to be here next season by putting in a transfer request and to push the issue with his parent club.

Cardiff don't have much leverage in this. From all indications, they clearly don't rate him. If we don't meet Cardiffs asking price, are they prepared to let him rot in the reserves whilst wasting their wage budget on him? Espically with regards to FFP, where his wages can be put towards a player that can contribute more for Cardiff, it would be cutting off their nose to spite their face.

I would imagine the 300k we've offered are subject to appearances or success, and structured like the Washington deal last summer.

I genuinely look back on that day really fondly. Was only 17 with the face of a 10 year old, but managed to get beers in the pub all day.

That was when I started properly going on away days and I started doing drunken match reports🤣

I'll never forgot the 'you only sing when your fishing' chant, along with some other memorable chants.

Also the groundsmen putting the least amount of effort possible to drain the pitch because Grimsby were 1-0 down.

Me, my dad and brother still talk about it to this day. Worth the ticket money even though it was all for nothing. Had to get a refund from if i remember correctly, couldn't get to the rescheduled game.

Also enjoyed Norwich Away, the Lampard year, when the floodlights went out. I think we were losing when the lights went out, then managed to win the game 4-3.

  5. Ali Al-Hamadi on loan if Ipswich go up?
I believe we were linked with him last summer or January. I would imagine Ipswich will look for a better option up front if they go up.
It looks like he's only been coming off the bench for Ipswich since signing/ occasional start to give Moore a rest. His family seems quite humble too looking on wikipedia, which fits in with Warne wanting good characters and people in the dressing room.

Didn’t have to fake being hit on the head though. Could get a player sent off

The opposing player shouldn't put himself in the position where he could get sent off. Let the ref do his job, there's no need to push Wildsmith over, even if he's overexaggerating.

DC confirmed in the Dawes interview that Mel has nowt to do with the football club, maybe time for @David to give similar assurances?

I heard Mel is quite good with drones. I would think he knows how to operate a computer too

    Just listened to the pre match press conference;

    https://www.bbc.co.uk/programmes/p0g8jxw7

Dom Dietrich asked him if the 2 pending signings are both midfielders and Warne replied “no they’re not, you’ll have to wait and see like everyone else”. Not sure whether that means neither are midfielders or if it’s a midfielder (Fornah?) and a striker/winger or something. Hopefully the announcement isn’t too far away.

Speculating on the player we missed out on - these were the deals done this week to Championship clubs:

Yasin Ayari [Brighton - Coventry] Loan

Flynn Downes [West Ham - Southampton] Loan

Taylor Gardner-Hickman [West Brom - Bristol City] Loan

It was probably Gardner-Hickman we missed out on. Can play midfield or fullback apparently

i don't ever recall rotherham being heavy favourites for any match during their time in the championship. They stayed compact, men behind the ball and tried to break when they eventually won it back. They were a team that relied heavily on set pieces and headed goals. I can agree with you that they always got stuck in and were up for a fight, but they were never expansive or tried to outplay any opponent. The previous point was that derby is a very different club to rotherham. and therefore requires a different mindset/approach

We'll be outspent by 2/3rds of the Championship, if we ever get promoted back up under Warne. This is how we'll need to play, if we go back up, to be competitive. A big similarity to Rotherham in my opinion.

  10. I'm all for piling on defenders at the end. 1 win in 9 or 10 at home I think? Stop the rot, gain some confidence. It didn't look like we had enough in the gas at the end to kill the game off with a 2nd goal unfortunately. In desperate need of pace in the side, but Warne knows this, trust the process.

Any potential signings watching in the crowd are more likely to come after a win, regardless of how ugly it was. If we dropped points, crowd could have got toxic like the last few games and they would think we're a ****show.

I know we get cheap seats in the South stand but we are not paid to entertain you. You may have noticed at some clubs - that all 4 stands sing together.

Isn't the south stand meant to start songs that the rest of the ground can join in with, I thought the original purpose was for it to be the singing section in the ground?

  12. As someone that sits in the north stand, it's felt like the south stand has been a library for a while.

I miss the 'Since I was young' chant that went around the ground from the Mac1 days. It was nice to finally hear that chant at the Oxford game. Unfortunately the players performance meant the chant didn't get much steam going for it, but one worth trying again soon I hope!

Oh we have already paid PW then

Clowes isn't going to pay 900k manager compensation for someone like Paul Simpson to Carlisle or for Ian Evatt to Bolton if Paul Warne doesn't work out. He'll be dumpster diving for a manager out of a job like Moore or Wilder.

I dont understand how a fitness coach gets a managers job in the first place, but accepted that he did, he was good enough to get promotions with Rotherham...however, he had decided on a system which suited the players he had.

So i understand Clowes seeing 3 promotions from this Division as the right person to get us up...however, what i dont get is the timing...you surely shouldn't let your caretaker manager recruit a load of players to suit a style of playing and the replace him after a few games with a manager who plays a different system that suits a completely different type of player.

That said, when the new manager has the summer to recruit players that do fit his style and formation..he does the complete opposite....

Whoever thought this was a good idea i dont know, but as Clowes has never had anything to do with running a football club before, he surely employs experts in the club that can advise him...

Personally, i think he (Clowes), has been naive, but he saved us so he has the right to have time to put things right...

Warne i think has demonstrated that his method and style of play is awful..like Rowett and Pearson..and when you start losing playing rubbish football....the fans will turn on you....and they have!

Time to cut our losses before he destroys anything we have..and also time is running out to get some good players in...but i'd rather a football manager came in and chose them.

Time for a Lee Carsley, or a Paul Simpson...but certainly someone who plays attractive, winning football!

I disagree regarding recruiting players last summer, the players needed to be recruited last year to field a team of 18 regardless of manager or the system we were playing.

I think he is recruiting for his system but we've lost our 2 best players from last year in Knight & McGoldrick and we don't have any money to spend to replace them like for like. McGoldrick and Knight in this team, along with the signings we've made this summer, makes us instance contenders for top 2 IMO. I don't think he's happy losing both off these players but he had no choice. I think he needs to be given time/multiple windows to replace them.

Warne has a track record of getting out of League 1. I'm not sure what other expertise tops that.

I agree, the results and performances are crap at the minute but I think he needs time to sort it out and mould his team. We've got a rag tag bunch of players, which we needed to field a team of 18 last season. Most were signed on 2 year deals and will be out of contract at the end of the season. I personally think next summer will be the key transfer window, and hopefully by then, we will be any to spend some small nominal fees, within budget, on players.

If we sack Warne this season, we won't get Simpson or Carsley. We'll be dumpster diving for a Manager out of a job like Darren Moore. Clowes won't make to same mistake spending compo on a manager. But I personally hope he has a tonne more patience then Mad Mel.

I think Warne and the Club have made that classic GSE over-promise by saying we're going for promotion. I'm sure Warne wants that because he's clearly an optimist, but it's clearly created high expectations in the fan base. This team without Knight and McGoldrick never looked like a promotion capable team.

But I completely respect your opinion though, even if I disagree with most of your points. Half full vs half empty glasses and all that.

  15. The New York Mets come out to Lazy Mary during their games, I think it would be great to play that at half time when the players return to the pitch. South standers can do their best drunk fake Italian, everyone else can happy clap and sway dance to help forget that drubbing we took in the first half... No lyrics needed, which helps out the older, more forgetful fans.

At the end of the day Saturday will be the true test.

Burton always put up a fight against us, but they won’t be as good as Blackpool or Wigan. Let’s see how we play and get on.

Draw - even stevens everything settles down.
Lose - Pressure mounts and questions will start to be muttered.
    Win - everything’s peachy

I agree. I think a draw would be a great result TBH. I remember the Nigel Pearson away game a few years ago. The crowd became extremely toxic and I think he got sacked straight after that game? I hope Saturday doesn't end with the same amount of toxicity.

Burton Away is always a tough game. They must have the smallest, most compact pitch in the EFL and it usually gives them a big advantage over us in these contests.
