  1. My view is that he, and anyone who can afford it, are doing the rest of us a favour by using private health care. If you can afford it, you should almost be obliged to use it. Don’t waste NHS resources that can be used on those that really need it, when you can afford to pay for health care. Everyone’s a winner. You get faster healthcare, and the NHS has one less person to look after, so one person gets slightly higher up the waiting list.

With respect, this ain't the thread for using the word "lucky", regardless of context, and regardless of our personal thoughts towards "The privileged few".
Cancer is a b****** to all classes, and all peoples.

Cancer f****** sucks. And no amount of money can buy a cure. Just ask Steve Jobs.

If it’s out to get the king, then get him it will. Even James Bond can’t jump in front of that bullet for him.

I was hoping I’d see two coronations in this lifetime, but not this soon. I hope it’s just one of those little melanoma type cancers that can get zapped off and everyone can move on. My dad’s had a couple of those. But I feel like if there was not a lot to worry about, they would have specifically said that. Not giving any specifics implies that there’s nothing good to say.

But by that logic, aren't the mechanics of the game the same between Premier League and National League (tier 5)? Yet, it would be unthinkable for Sky/ITV/BBC to pack a studio with guys who had only ever played at tier 5 or below.

Granted women’s football is at a lower level, but playing for England in a World Cup final, or winning a euros, has got to be worth something. The pressure on being in games like that has got to put you somewhere on a par with male England internationals. Makes me laugh that Barton, with his one England cap or whatever, has a go at women with champions medals. He’s closer to that tier 5 level than a lot of the girls he criticises.

Seen a tweet the other day suggesting that he had a tactical edge at Southampton and Spurs because he was a Bielsa disciple. But the game has progressed quickly and that edge no longer exists, which makes him pretty ordinary.

Seems that he’s like a lot of managers that have a purple patch at one or two particular clubs, and then dine out on that for the rest of their careers.

This is why Liverpool will win the league this season. They don’t need to play well and they still pick up results. When Arsenal and City play poorly, they lose. But Liverpool have something extra this season.

Also Klopp seems to be able to get fairly decent players playing like top top players. Players like Jota, Gakpo, Gomez, Jones and Gravenbach wouldn’t get games for the best teams but they do for Liverpool, and they play like top players.

Similar to how SAF got players like Fletcher, John O’Shea, Wes Brown, Ji Sun Park, Anderson, Nani and Rafael playing like they were top top players. But put them in a midtable side and they barely stand out

    That seemed a little premature.

But then what happens at the bottom of the table? - cliubs that were previously relegated would be entitled to stay up and so on - and they would all demand huge sums in compensation. It would ripple throughout the whole football pyramid and destroy professional football in this country (and don't forget the Champions League that would also be impacted).

I agree in principle with stripping their titles, but I just can't see a practical way it will happen - the authorities needed to sort this when it first came to light - by letting it slide for so long they've just dug themselves into a deeper hole.....

Maybe you could calculate it based on them having a 10 point deduction every season they infringed, and redo the tables based in that. That would only impact the top few clubs.

All down to actual point deductions this season but Luton are mucking it all up for the premier league by trying to stop up

The threat of points deductions has left the door wide open for Luton, to be fair. At the start of the season they weren’t given a hope. Then they’re given a glimmer of hope with blades and Burnley being absolutely rubbish. So they just have to be better than absolutely rubbish to not finish last at least. Big then points deductions mean that if they can just stay within 10pms of forest and Everton then there’s a real chance they could stop up.

and hope will do funny things to people.

Benitez didn't win them their first league title in 30 years.

Yes, but the reason that’s such an achievement is that they are specifically historically league winners. They should be winning leagues. The fact that they hadn’t was an underachievement. Winning the league is just standard to a scouser who grew up in the 70s.

Leicester are the kind of club who build statues when they win the league. But for Liverpool, winning the league isn’t enough by itself to make you a legend.

like if everyone who won the league with Chelsea had a statue, they could probably have a starting 11 of statues. For some clubs winning the league is just the bare minimum. You get sacked if you don’t win the league. Liverpool are one of those.

No doubt Klopp would have won numerous other trophies if it wasn’t for Guardiola at City.

Similarly, Wenger would have won a bunch more trophies at Arsenal had it not been for SAF at Arsenal.

Sometimes you are just in an era where you are brilliant, but there is somebody better.

Take two out of Federer, Nadal and Djokovic out of the equation and the other one gets 40 grand slams. In any other era they probably would have reached that amount.

Klopp in PL terms has a higher PPG tally than SAF, Wenger and Mourinho.

It’s almost unfair that he has just the one title despite finishing on 90+ points on three occasions.

For context, both SAF and Wenger never reached 90+ points in their 40+
combined seasons. Klopp has managed it three times in 7 years and you wouldn’t back against him doing it again this season.

I have no love for him. But he is a legendary manager and in the top three of his era (past 15 years) alongside Pep and Ancelotti.

Scousers talking about building a statue to him. Everything you say is true, but the record will show he’s just won one champions league and one premier league. Where’s the statue for Benitez. Yes they’ve won the title, but this is Liverpool, past managers were winning back to back titles, winning one title is pretty much the minimum requirement. Not winning one title would have been a failure. Should he be a legend for achieving the minimum?

I know that’s unfair cos he was up against Pep and probably would’ve won more without him, but that’s the reality. You don’t get statues for coming second place.

Bit of a nearly man really. They nearly won back to back champions leagues. They nearly won the quadruple. That would have been proper legendary status. There’s some parcelled universe where those thighs came to pass. But it’s not this universe.

Of course, if he wins the quadruple this season, we’ll see. His story isn’t finished yet.

Another one, @Carl Sagan. I can’t figure out whether this is real or not. We’re going to be dealing with that question all the time from now on.

I say deep fake. He didn’t stumble over any words or slander anyone. He’s spouting nonsense, but at least it’s coherent nonsense.

Trump could do worse than to replace himself with a robot.

  11. I’m in. The universe is definitely telling me to go. Even the nice lady in the car park let me in without having to pay for parking. The universe wants me here for a reason. Hopefully ti witness something spectacular.

im not sure if my wife wants me here though. I’ve got radio silence from her. I’m not sure what reception I’m going to get when I rock up at 1am.

  12. I’m accidentally in reading. I’ve been working here today. Didn’t even realise the match was on this evening. On my way home, but need a charge. The first charger I’ve gone to is taken, so the second charger I navigated to happened to be outside the stadium. And then it hit me that the match is on today

my wife is expecting me home in 3 hrs. But this feels like fate is telling me I have to go to the match.

And, given this is the theory we now need to replace to gain a deeper understanding of the Universe, how can AI possibly ever have the understanding of what it is doing and proposing, to move us on?

Well that ones easy. Just ask it ‘what is the meaning of life, the universe and everything?’

I see Sheff United got another ludicrous penalty decision to earn a point today. Have they won a point this season that hasn't been thanks to VAR or a referee's decision?

Them beating our 11 points has long gone, so whatevs, a few more spawns decisions like this and they might catch Forest.

Think of the Star Trek scenario. Money doesn’t exist in that world. So people work because they want to. People own restaurants and vineyards, and work for starfleet to explore the stars.

id like to think we get to that sort of position. Where the motivation is not money, but following your dream and the kudos of being the best at it.

the one thing I never understood about that economy though, is how does the federation deal with other economies that do deal with money. Like how do they buy drinks at quark’s bar? Where do they get the Latinum from?

    I might ask chat gpt.
