Pompey buying a reading defender for 75k surely se could go and rinse for them for Knibbs and smith

McIntyre is out of contractvin the summer and made of glass - he averages about 4 months a season out injured and was already injured for 3 months this season. Whislt Knibbs and Smith would strengthen us, they're contracted for a couple more seasons.

Whilst all transfers are a risk to some extent, we just do not have the budget to assemble a squad unless we take a bigger risk than usual on some players. There's a reason the players we signed came cheap.

But we will have a bigger budget than at least 20 other teams in this division this season (I think we're top 2). Why do we need to take a bigger risk than them?

Christ, you think we're losing £7m+ per year?

I'm not doubting you, by the way, I'm just stunned that the figure could possibly be that high.

Clowes Developments (the owner of Derby County) recently released their accounts and disclosed some information regarding the club. The headline figure was a £6.8m loss over 9 months (July 1st 2022 to March 31st 2023).

    And they have rich owners

Not that it's relevant to Warne, but Hull have a net zero transfer spend over 2 seasons and are unlikely to have a top half wage budget this season. 2 years ago (in the Championship), their wage bill was less than what we're spending in League 1.

George Byers looks like he could be off to Blackpool. Wednesday fans were waxing lyrical about him last season and at 27 you’d think he’d fit perfectly into our midfield. He’s out of contract at the end of the season as well.

Another player who can't stay fit. Not someone we should be targetting

    Where is Oduroh ?

Hopefully going out on loan for the rest of the season. I don't think his contract will be renewed beyond this season, so the club will be trying to find a club for him

Different style of play to the first team

It's great at times isn't it? JThompson sets the tone with pin point passes to anywhere on the field. Only turned 17 just before Christmas, but already one of our best players at this level.

Every time I see Bartley I am impressed with him. Has everything you’d want in a centre back. Fast strong and good in the air as well as being comfortable with the ball at feet. A season long loan for him next season could be very beneficial.

Definitely settling in now. Results have improved since he's been fit which is always a positive. It also helps that his size makes up for the rest of our youthful squad. He's looking to be a good summer signing.

Robinson impressive, not a sniff of first time action. Frustrating.

Agreed. The minimum he should be getting is a few minutes at the end of games.

    Quite like K Robinson too.

He's a very likeable person. Needs to bulk up a bit, but that'll come with age - he's another of our 2nd yesr scholars stepping up early

Anyone know if there striker Osong is related to our u18 player Johnson Osong ?

    I dont believe so

How old is Wheeldon? And is Nto a wide player normally?

17? A 2nd year scholar so moves up full time to the U21s next season

Joe Ward playing for the 21s tonight. That for me makes me believe he is the player on the way out.

I would say the opposite. If we were trying to look him out, would we risk an injury just days before the window closes? He hasn't had much football for months, so this game (several days before our next fixture) is thr perfect time for him to build up some fitness. He also played a couple of weeks ago, alongside Fornah and Sibley.

I would hedge my bets on Fornah being on the way out. Less than 30 minutes of league football since Christmas. Started 1 other game in thr Cup and brought off at half time. Not even named in the first team squad 4 times. The fact he isn't in this U21 game to build up much needed fitness suggests something is up

More or less what I expected tbh, but great to see Bardell on the bench. He's had a torrid time with injuries. He's only played twice this season, on the back of only 4 games last season (including an appearance in thr FA Cup).

Gibson-Hammond will be desperate to get off our bench and make a point against his former employers - he was a regular in their U21 swaud over the last 2 seasons. This'll be his 2nd game since returned from his loan at Buxton.

Over 100 pages now!  Absolutely phenomenal.  Latest update, we have now taken 38 points from 17 games at 2.23 points per game since we started the thread.

Can we keep on being cross for the run in?  We've got this.

On the other hand, we have only picked up 3 wins this year (7 games) - 2 of those against sides in the relegation zone and the other is only 5 points clear. We also lost to 1 of the other sides in the relegation zone and a L2 side during that 7 game spell.

    That's it.

They were our class of 92. If the rest of the club hadn't been trashed by our ridiculous recruitment, we'd have had 7 homegrown players in a top 6 championship matchday squad from that group with Ebosele, Delap, Gordon and Kellyman coming through after them.

    Massive missed opportunity.

You could field these 10 as your outfielders from all of those to have featured for the U18s that season.

Find it incredibly frustrating that Fornah and Ward are being linked with leaving.

Warnes signings (mostly) haven’t shown much of anything to improve us, and if we’re already looking at letting two of them go 6 months after signing then surely we need to be asking big questions of Warne and the recruitment team again?

My recollection is of Mark Thomas being on his notice period at Oxford until the summer started (a quick browse couldn't confirm this). I therefore think it's reasonable to assume the majority of the summer signings were 'Warne signings'. The likes of Bradley, Elder, etc. would have been lined up very quickly, and most liekly before Thomas had officially started working for us. I therefore have confidence that the success rate of our signigns will improve going forward.

However, it is a concern how so many signings aren't playing as much as we had liked - whether through injury or performance. When weighing up value for money (availability/minutes played vs wages), it's signings from this season who come out of it worst - Ward, Bradley, Elder, Embleton, John-Jules, Washington.. It's clear we can't afford to have another summer like last.

Think you’re missing a few as well - didn’t we throw away a 1-0 lead late on against Wycombe, for example? And we equalised against Wigan before throwing it away at home. Equalised at Stevenage and lost. Admittedly we were losing those games to start with, but it doesn’t scream “character” to me

According to Transfermarkt, it's 10 points gained from losing positions and 10 lost from winning positions.

Portsmouth have a net gain of 10 points, Bolton just 1, and Peterborough a net loss of 1.
