  1. 50 Years of Feeling Blue.

50 years, can that be right?

    Since ‘69 under bright floodlights

Fratton Park on a Friday night,

Five decades of blue and white.

Clear still the details of that first game,

The sights and sounds, the players’ names,

    Milkins, Harris, Ley and Pack,

    Hiron, McCann in the attack.

We ran on the pitch to TV’s ‘Power Game’ theme,

The first live match I’d ever seen,

We lost 2-1, as we left my brother,

Thought I wouldn’t want to see another.

But something about the Milton End,

Made me feel as if I’d found new friends,

A voice it spoke from deep inside,

This club’s for me. Heaven’s Light my Guide.

The 70s well, they weren’t so great,

Performances that were hard to take,

    Relegation hurt, mixed with relief,

    Perhaps a merciful release.

    Regroup, rebuild and start again,

    Unaware about the coming pain,

SOS Pompey, donating all loose change,

Thrown on the pitch to save Pompey’s name,

Against all odds we just survived,

In division four, our trade we plied,

Slowly, surely we made our way,

Back to where we are today.

In 2008 we won the cup,

Were relegated then came back up,

On one hand it seemed that business boomed.

On the other well, our club’s closure loomed ,

Football is a never ending story,

    Triumph, disaster just transitory.

When asked why follow PFC I shrug,

And say it’s just the Pompey bug,

But what if I had missed that game,

Would my life have been the same?

With no oligarchs and no fake sheiks,

No terrible strikers and defensive mistakes.

No expensive ride up Harry’s garden path,

And dumped there broke, well you had to laugh,

They say that life’s a rollercoaster,

But is this the way that life’s supposed to,

Treat you as a loyal fan,

In coaches, cars and hired vans,

500 mile round journeys from your house,

    Rollercoaster? Yeah, Southsea’s ‘Wild Mouse’.

Of course life wouldn’t have been the same,

Without Pompey, Fratton, and that Bury game,

The ups the downs, home and away,

They’ve made me what I am today.

Finger nails bitten down to the wrist,

    Broke, depressed, a pessimist!

Yet I wouldn’t have it any other way,

So Play Up Pompey, Pompey Play,

    Up forever and every day.

Surely someone from Lincoln must be included?

Think I read that Lincoln are best side in Europe, results-wise.

Also think they have had a good second half to season,,first was dodgy.

If Mousinho doesn't win L1 manager of year award...well there will be

questions in parliament! I will set up my own inquiry! HAS to be him....

    shirley,

  3. Nice and annoying to be proved right. At least one of your goals was result of LB going awol.

Told you! I also said one of main strengths was character.....not giving up. Few would have

predicted Moxon would smash ball in from 25 yards...not sure who was most surprised..him,

his team mates or the crowd. A long range shot into Fratton End goal is always cause for mad

partying..as long as it's Pompey who score.

Impressed with Derby generally and your support was great. 2-2 was fair although you guys were

probably annoyed at dropping 2 points.....was fine with us...another game ticked off list.

Good luck Rams...hope we go up together and.....one more message:

Hello Richard Haines.....Derby fan and dad...also my son. Love ya.

Saw him at Wembley in the early 80s I think it was. Love Harvest and After the Goldrush albums. Hoping for a good game tonight that we just edge 😉👍

Old song...adapted! 'You're going home in a slightly disappointed mood'.

If you are an old git you'll know the original..about ambulances! lol/

    Peace out.

Both squads struggling with injuries... 3rd place home record v 3rd place away record in the league this season... this really could go either way!

Injuries have become a joke that isn't funny any more. I realise the game has got quicker and demands on players increasing every season but......I don't recall this level of ACL injuries back in early 70's. Care from club has improved but I wonder if training regimes have become stupidly demanding. Some on Pompey site say that games demand this level of fitness but///what's the point if your star signing is out for six months after his debut? Have watched England train...some stupid routines....players running at each other and jumping at the oppo's shoulders....WTF??? Are they trying to get injured?? Get back to an hour's kickball then off for a ciggy then down the pub! Players had longer careers back then! )not entirely serious but...knowarramean?)

    3-3

    2 red cards

    10 man brawl

    9  mins of added time

    3 injuries

    two penalties

    goal scorers

    Bishop x2 kamara x1

    Collins x1 , Nelson x1  NML x1

    I’ll put 50p on it 😂

Jeez That's quite an accy! You'd get several thousand for that I reckon.....probably more!

    Do it!!!!

Oh no!  Wingers crossing - that’s not part of our game at all!  Please don’t tell your manager!!  We play everything through the middle.

LOL!!!!!! So......0-0 it is...deal? Our weaknesses match yours......I wish it were 22.00 right now....on edge!

My ex wife ACTUALLY said after a home defeat.....'It's only a game'.....aaaaarrrggh!

Decided to read through the thread after hearing the inspiring albeit sad tale of your recently passed young supporter. This post popped out.

Year after year we’ve had close calls with promotion and have thrown it away.  Even now with the lead we have I won’t believe we are promoted until it’s mathematically safe.

After hearing the story about B4 I genuinely hope it’s Pompy and Derby who go up in the automatics. What a fitting tribute that would be for someone who was obviously well loved by this forum and had a good heart.

Pompey had Docker Hughes.....same kinda story. Only problem was..Docker wasn't a big Pompey fan and some at Pompey reckoned he was used by 657 as a figurehead/figure of fun. I was up in Scotland when demands for free Sporting Life for Pensioners and other election promises were made!

    Nice one.

Hope your defence tonight has as many gaps in it as your message !

LOL. Working with an ageing keyboard....think of Pompey defence circa 83.Defence has actually been our strength..

which is pretty amazing since we've been playing with no recognised LB/RB and a makeshift/reserve central defence.

Am doing Sean Raggett a MAJOR disservice....he was dropped by manager...stayed in reserves for a long while. Injury necessitated his return and he's been magnificent. My personal player of the year. Centrally our defence is solid.....I have already given a hint as to how to get past us!

Cheers Jono....Some games you can make an educated guess about....and tonight MIGHT be one of those.

Mousinho knows not to go gung-ho for a win coz it's not essential....Same applies to Rams.

Tonight, rather than a 6 pointer is....re-rack/I'll fold/call it evens. Handshakes and head off into last few games!

    See above!

If you win then the Championship is your oyster. We will have a nerve wracking seasons end

If we win Bolton have it all to do and we will be in touching distance.

Draw is probably good for all of us. We are short of fire power but football is a funny game. I have no prediction, no feeling how this will pan out but doubt there will be many goals

    Wishing you luck excluding tonight

For tonight I hope we play 4-3-3, listening to Portsmouth fans and watching them, to get anything out of them we will need legs in midfield and to press hard from the front to win.

I’d go with Wildsmith in nets with, Wilson, Nelson, Cashin and Sibley across the back 4 as that’s 2 full backs good on both sides of the ball and scary for opposition on the counter, which will be our best chance of scoring tonight.

A midfield of Smith, Adams and Thompson would be a well balanced three with lots of hard work and energy aswell as quality on the ball. Tommo always seems to do better against teams who like to have the ball I’m thinking of that first season he broke through aswell as his appearance away at Peterborough this season and his half v Bolton a couple weeks ago.

This would also allow Mendez to play on the right where I think he’s best. With Wilson behind him overlapping it’ll let him drift inside when he wants to and get on the ball. Up front I’d play Washington simply for his pressing and then bring Collins on at half time, if he can play a full half. Lastly then CBT can play on the left and hopefully carries his form on from Friday. Pompey fans have said he always has a good game against them so let’s give him freedom down the left and try get his first derby goal.

Full back positions have been a problem for us. Have seen so many goals conceded when teams have played into that gap...oppo

winger gets hold of ball and sends in cross..header at far post. Achilles heel. Only hint I'm going to give you guys!

What is the mysterious question 3?

It was a test of your attention to detail...miss this and you might miss Kamara/Yengi ghosting past you.

    Well spotted roboto.

    1) What year did Portsmouth become a member of football league? 2010

    2) What were the team's original colours? Red +  White Stripes

    4) What was their original nickname? The Brothers of Destruction

    5) Arthur Conan Doyle was a Pompey goalie. True or false? Maybe

    6) Why are Portsmouth known as Pompey? Mispronunciation of Pompeii, as parts of the place looks like it has been decimated by a volcanic eruption.

    7) How many times have Pompey played at Wembley? 69

😎 What is 'skate bait'? Middle aged men wearing Nu Metal Tee's to pull young chicks.

    9) How many brothels are in Portsmouth? Anything's a brothel if you've got enough cash.

    10)  Who are known as 'scummers'? Martin, Pete and Pete's cousin as well. Think his name was Duncan, cant remember.

Whatever you’re smoking please share it with your players before the game then your fears may come true. 😀

Seriously though, I see it being a very tight game. Even when we have won we have rarely looked very convincing so I think a heavy defeat for Pompey as extremely unlikely (but very welcome 😄). The most likely result, as I see it, is either a draw or a narrow win for you guys. A draw would be a good result as far as I’m concerned and a Rams win would obviously be outstanding but I can’t see it happening.

Let’s hope we both get over the line by the end of the season. 🐏

Hi Tamworth....Am on nothing wackier than Players Superkings!

Without getting all 'jumpers for goalposts' this is why football is the great imponderable.

IF we do this..IF they do that...tou can drive yourself mad that way!

True story....I did midweek fixed odds on European games....predict 15 correct results and

win...quite a lot! It was 21.45 and I had 14/15 correct and scores were final. Just waiting on

Brondby to beat Malmo...they were 1-0 up.....clock ticked to 22.00..still no final score.

I was of course spending my winnings....,.at 22.15 result came up.....Malmo had equalised in

    25th minute of additional time!

I bore a grudge..right through to World Cup in Frankfurt 2006....I saw some Brondby fans drinking outside Irish bar...marched up and demanded my thousands of pounds! They laughed, apologised and bought me a beer. SO CLOSE!
