I hope they do. Nyambe would eat him for breakfast.

I hope they do too. Would rather have Ben Osbourn now he's available

Have we signed a non-league player since Malcolm Christie?

I'd love Derby to copy their methods and pick up some rough diamonds from non-league, but they also have a good record of picking up young players who have been rejected by bigger clubs or fallen out of the 'academy' system. Ivan Toney was in the Newcastle set-up, Dwight Gayle was released by Arsenal and Peterborough picked him up from Dagenham & Redbridge. Simon Davies & Matthew Etherington were scouted as teenagers playing regional football.
They appear to act quickly when they see talent, give those youngsters a shot in the first-team, then aggressively find them a decent move while their stock is high.

Derby seem to hang on to those players for too long, then they get a crap fee or nothing at all, Jeff Hendrick being the obvious exception. Might even have got more for Will Hughes if he'd joined Man Utd a couple of seasons earlier. And at the moment, PW is reluctant to play youth anyway.

The other angle to Peterborough is that selling your best players every season holds you back.

Kelle Roos from Nuneaton Town unfortunately 👍

After realising that Tyrese Campbell is the son of Kevin Campbell, and with us being linked to Devante Cole, Josh Windass, and Charlie Savage, it occurred to me that our new transfer policy is obvious: the children of 90's and 2000's UK footballers who Paul Warne & Richie Barker remember. So here's a list of suggestions.

GK - True Grant - Man City, 18, son of Lee Grant. Derby County link there already - terrible name, but we'll sign him when Man City get relegated to the National League North.

RB/CB - Finn Delap - Burton, 18, son of Rory. Sign Finn up first and Liam will follow.

CB - Charlie Cresswell - Leeds, 21, son of mediocre journeyman striker, Richard Cresswell. Was on loan at Millwall last season and they rated him. Recently crashed his car into police car outside Elland Road, so possibly a b*llend.

CB - Caleb Taylor - WBA, 21, son of Martin Taylor (not that one, the brute from Birmingham). Did well on loan at Cheltenham last season, played nearly 50 games. Loaned to Bolton this Feb but barely played. Contract expires next summer.

DM/CM - Jensen Weir - Brighton, 22, son of David Weir. Rated when on loan at Blackpool but game time was limited so cut it short. Played a lot on loan at Port Vale, who were bloody awful. He is soon-to-be free though.

CM - Charlie Savage - Reading, 20, son of Robbie Savage. More technical than his Dad, plus he doesn't have that stupid bloody hair. Reading have no money, so a god shout.

CM - Bobby Clark - 20, Liverpool, son of Lee Clark. We're also being linked to him! He'd be a great loan by all accounts.

CM - Donovan Lescott - 20, just released by Blackpool, son of Joleon. Probably rubbish.

CM - Jack & Tyler Fletcher - Man Utd, 17, twin sons of Darren Fletcher. Both handy centre mids, possibly we'd get a 2-4-1 deal on a loan.

AM/RW - Stan Mills - Everton, 20, son of Danny Mills. Did well on loan at Oxford than knacked his knee. Could be a good loan when he's fit. Probably hears lots of great stories from when his Dad played 2 games for Derby.

AM - Elliot Lee - Wrexham, 29, son of Rob Lee. Another Derby link, smashed it in L2 with 16 goals from midfield. We probably can't afford him though, and he's nearly 30.

AM - Josh Windass - Sheff Weds, 30, son of Bradford and Hull legend, Dean Windass. Scored 6 in the Championship for a crap Wednesday side. A bit old but possibly available on a free, let's see.

RW - D'Margio Wright-Phillips - Stoke, 20, son of Shaun. Soon to be a free agent, but did well on loan in Belgium at Beerschot, a name which makes me thirsty.

CF - George Hirst - Ipswich, 25, son of David Hirst. Did well in the Championship this season but could easily get replaced, let's see. Seem to remember he was a big-time prat when leaving Sheff Weds.

CF - Tyrese Campbell - free, 23, son of Kevin Campbell. Didn't really score for Stoke, but they are an awful, cursed club and couldn't get a tune out of Dwight Gayle either.

CF - Devante Cole - free, 29, son of Andy Cole. Two good seasons at Barnsley so worth a punt on a free.

I'll add a bit of international flavour to that post:

CM - Markus Poom - 25 yo son of the great Mart Poom, Estonian international currently on loan at Shamrock Rovers. Born in Derby no less

AM - Onni Valakari - 24 yo son of Simon Valakari, highly rated Finnish international plays for FC Pafos in Cyprus.

CM - Emil Bohinen - 25 yo son of Lars Bohinen, currently on loan at Genoa from Salernitana and another Derby born lad.

Must be some more I've missed?

  4. A bit of a controversial one, but I'd love to see Ben Osborn at Derby.

Right age and very versatile, he can play in that Left Wing Back position or Centre Mid (both areas we need to strengthen).

Wages might be a sticking point however...

Looks like he'll be released by Sheffield Utd and he's definitely Championship standards.

I know he's an ex Red Dog and I know he scored that winner against us but he's a Derby lad and that's got to count for something, right???

  5. Curtis Nelson: 9/10 - Shaky opening few games, but an absolulte rock thereafter. Fully deserved his POTY award
Callum Elder: 6/10 - Decent(ish) performer at this level but injuries haven't helped.
Joe Ward: 7/10 - Been good when played at RWB, not so much when he's played elsewhere. Fantastic Crosser mind...
Sonny Bradley: 6/10 - Jury's still out for me. Looked like a shadow of the player has was at Luton early on but grew as the season progressed. Glad his stupid Red Card at Northampton didn't cost us dearly.
Josh Vickers: 6/10 - Able deputy but no more than that.
Kane Wilson: 8/10 - Impressive. Always looked lively when he played and chipped in with a few vital goals
Martyn Waghorn: 4/10 - Started brightly but faded into obscurity as the season progressed. Not one for Championship.
Conor Washington: 4/10 Underwhelming signing and proved to be just that. Too old and too inconsistent, the 3 goals says it all really.
Tyrese Fornah: 6/10 - A strange one. Looked promising when he first signed then got injured, been on the fringes ever since.
    Elliot Embleton: N/A
Ryan Nyambe: 8/10 - Can't remember him having a bad game, very good defensively and I'm glad we tied him down on a longer contract.
Tyreece John-Jules: 3/10 - Not for me I'm afraid, shows flashes but far too injury prone. Why we didn't cancel his loan when he got injured a second time is beyond me.

    Winter:

Ebou Adams: 10/10 - The best loan signing we've ever had imo and I remember Leon Osman! Alsolutely key to our promotion push and it's imperitive that we sign him perminately.
Dwight Gayle: 7/10 - Bagged some vital goals for us and always looked a threat. Whether he can do it in the Championship is another question...
Corey Blackett-Taylor: 5/10 - excited when he joined but very disappointing so far & that miss at Wycombe wouldn't have helped his confidence. Let's see what he can do with a full pre-season with Warne under his belt.
Max Bird: 8/10 - Will miss him in that Midlfield. Perfect way to sign off his Derby career.

    Extensions:
Nathaniel Mendez-Laing: 9/10 - Vital we tied him down to a new deal and looking forward to what he can do in the Championship. More than capable of give teams in that league problems.
Eiran Cashin: 9/10 - Honestly though he'd go to Brighton in January so I'm delighted he's committed to us. Puts us in a stong postion financially if clubs come sniffing in the Summer.
Jake Rooney: 6/10 - Not sure he's suited for the Championship, but always good to get our young players tied down.

Spending a modest fee on Sam Smith would be a great deal. Also would love us to get Femi Azeez since Reading seem to be selling for peanuts.

Agreed on Smith, should have picked him for nothing when he was out of contract at Cambridge. Looks like Azeez is on his way to Plymouth mind...

  7. For me, our best ever January business was Big Dave in 05/06. That signing definitely helped us get promoted.

On the other side of the coin, bringing in Marco Riech in the 03/04 window definitely helped us avoid the drop. Just gave us the quality we were lacking. Tremendous Left Peg as well.

Yes its true us footy fans just love a new signing , its the excitement of seeing there debut, wondering if they're going to be a hit or not and willing to get the deal over the line, i remember wracking up a huge phone bill phoning the DCFC 1884 hotline where you were teased at the beginning of the automated message with a snippet of transfer news which was right at the end of the message and was usually recycled nonsense that you now hear on the DET but the call was expensive , premium!! and cost too much !! ...so for a bit of fun whilst we wait for our beloved Rams to conclude a deal and swoop for our next hero a bit of fun

A/ Which signing did you not  like or was keen on but turned into a great signing in your opinion ?

B/ Which signing did you want so much yet turned out to be not so great ?

C/ who pound for pound for what we paid has been our best value for money signing ?

D/ who has been the worst waste of money

    my answers are

A/ Wasn't over keen on Marco Gabbiadini but in the end  I loved him, great signing and some great goals and a great name !!

B/ 2 for me Gordon Hill from Man U and  John Robertson from Forest

C/ again 2 for me Dean Saunders and Paul Goddard both brilliant for us

D/ Claude Davis and Mikkel Beck but there has been many

A/ Which signing did you not like or was keen on but turned into a great signing in your opinion ?

Paul McGrath - Thought he was well past it when we signed him but what a player!

B/ Which signing did you want so much yet turned out to be not so great ?

Toss up between Jack Marriott and Kamil Jozwiak. Both never even came even close to the hype

C/ who pound for pound for what we paid has been our best value for money signing ?

Stefano Eranio. Absolute Rolls Royce of a Footballer

D/ who has been the worst waste of money ?

Don't know where to even start! Anyone from Grenet, Bragstad, Davis, Blackman, Butterfield, Villa, Fuertes, Bielik, etc, etc. So much wasted over the years 🤦‍♂️

  9. Now that it’s becoming apparent that there isn’t as much in the transfer kitty as we’d all hoped, it asks the question whether we have anyone in our Academy at the moment who could make the step up to the First Team?

Is Tony Weston or Dajaune Brown the out-and-out Number 9 we so desperately need? Granted Brown’s been loaned to Gateshead but we do have the option to recall him after 28 days.

Would Adebayo Fapetu be that Ball-Winning Midfielder that we hoped Fornah would be? Dare I also mention that we also have a certain Bradley Johnson as an overage Academy Player who could do that role…

Are Carlos Richards or Ben Radcliffe an option out wide or are they either not ready or not good enough?

Personally, I would much rather us take a chance on our Academy Lads that have another over 30’s lunk on a bloated salary with little or no resale value. We need players at this stage of the season who are hungry and want to fight for the shirt which seems to be missing at the moment.

For me that would be Weston & Fapetu both of which have looked good in cup games, definitely worth a gamble if we can’t get the players we want.

Be interesting to know everyone else’s thoughts
