‘Who can stop this Leeds machine?’ the Yorkshire Evening Post will write.
’A waiting list of 200,000 for Wembley’ the Twitterverse will post.
’Look at this. Listen to this. Leeds at Wembley. It’s enough to make even the Duke of Wellington tremble.’ Gary Weaver will say.
Final score: Leeds 0-1 *insert opposition here*

Hull owner has done a live fans thing tonight and some of the highlights include calling Aaron Connolly fat, calling Ryan Allsop bad (Rosenior refused to drop him) and has said passing between defenders is boring. There’s apparently been a lot more than just this.

I suppose you can see the thinking. Foreign coaches (Maresca, Rohl and Cifuentes are three good examples from this season alone) usually adapt pretty well to Championship football.
Most Championship clubs are looking to bridge a financial gap and sometimes unearthing a quality coach that can elevate the team and make the overall unit stronger is the answer. Bielsa at Leeds is the impact everyone is looking to emulate.
Hull might be taking a gamble but if they uncover a maverick coach who takes the Championship by storm, it will look totally worth it in 12 months.
There might some method to the madness. Let’s wait and see.

He’s had a great loan move and shown that his quality is not limited to youth football.
I think we should give him a chance to impress in pre-season and have him in the squad for the start of the season.
What do we have to lose? His confidence and appetite to impress will be through the roof.
He may take the opportunity and run with it…

Even on a free transfer, you would expect JCH to cost a pretty penny, especially given he is 30 and this could be his last chance at a big contract.
21 goals in 98 Championship games for two struggling, relegation threatened sides suggests he could definitely do a job and would be a good option to have, but if funds are tight, could we spend the money better?
It’s a risk whichever way we go, but personally if we are going to take such risks, I’d rather stick with Gayle (who is a slightly different player) who has already shown he can flourish under Warne and work well with the current squad when fit.

I think for most managers nowadays, they have to pick their jobs carefully. Maybe Rosenior signed a three-year deal in the winter as insurance more than anything?
The Championship was already a well known revolving door swallowing managers up and spitting them out. Then this ownership group came in, removed McCann almost instantly and then gave their own man Arveladze what amounted to slightly more than half a season, so maybe Rosenior understood he’d always be walking a tightrope?
I would agree that at the beginning of the season, most people would have had Leeds, Leicester and Southampton as the main contenders with a cluster of 6-7 other teams in the mix, with Hull as a dark horse in that group.
But as you alluded to, once you get into the top six and start rubbing shoulders with the big guns, the goalposts are only going to move one way…
Rosenior just has to play the game and pick his next job with more care. He doesn’t want to do what Rooney has done, for instance.

Wildsmith is one to keep, in my opinion. Anything else would seem counter-intuitive.
He’s been part of a strong defence and kept twenty clean sheets. He’s been first choice for us for the past two years. He deserves a shot at being a Championship regular. Crucially too he won’t demand the same wages as keepers like Rodak and Ryan with higher level experience.
OK, yes, upgrade on players when you can. But in our position we’ll need to prioritise where money is spent and goalkeeper would not be a top priority.
Surely if we can extend Wildsmith’s deal and spend funds elsewhere, it makes the most sense?

All that tells us is that finishing 15th in 22-23 was slightly above where Hull ‘should have been’ in financial terms.
Where does finishing 7th line up with their spending in 23-24?

I said on one of the other threads if you've got a squad with loans in from Liverpool and City and permanently signed Philogene amongst others from the Prem and they've got the lad Greaves everyone is supposedly after you need to be getting top 6. It was like us under Lampard, he had everything thrown at it financially to our detriment as we now know. Lampard jumped ship and he'd probably have got longer because of the infamous win against Leeds but with hindsight we should have got top 2 with the likes of Mount and Tomori on top of what was already a decent side (at the time). I feel a bit for Liam because he did ok with us and he did ok with Hull but his CV will show he's been let go twice in quickish succession which doesn't look great for a man starting out in management.

He can’t be surprised. Hull have been one of the biggest spenders in the Championship in the past 12 months. The owners are ambitious. You have to keep pace or you will fall on your sword trying.
He needs a club that he can grow with, a club that can complement him in a sense of where they are in their respective journeys. Hull have designs for something much bigger at a much faster rate obviously.
A better fit for him would be a club like Plymouth. He has a similar playing philosophy to previous coaches there (Schumacher and Lowe) and they are not yet fully established at Championship level and have modest resources. It’s a challenging job but one where it can be stable and mutually beneficial.

The same Clough who built his Derby side around a trusted core that progressed together and the same Clough who then took some of those same trusted players to Leeds and Forest?
I don’t dispute he will be tested more. You could make the same argument for the entire squad, mind you. Even our player of the year could be replaced by that logic.
The reality is that we need a starting point to build a competitive squad and logically our most consistent and best performing players - Wildsmith, Cashin, Nelson, NML, Collins - should (and hopefully will) be the foundations of that. Most promoted teams that do well have a high performing core group that they stick with and put their faith behind.
Warne would be brave, bordering on crazy, to deviate from that, especially given the importance he places on team chemistry, team spirit and the psychology of the group.
Do we really want to rip up the squad and have to wait weeks and months for it to gel? Surely we want to make important tweaks that give us a boost but maintain a sense of continuity?
