Lac291884 reacted to archram in Derby County v Wycombe Wanderers H Matchday Thread
I got so excited starting a thread I forgot to say why. I achieve one of my bucket list objectives on Saturday, being part of a hospitality package - 71 seasons after I first went to BBG. Haven’t always been able to attend regularly but have remained a half or quarter fan and followed us faithfully.
My youngest was 50 this year and a well off friend bought him a hospitality package - so, as well as a meal, we get to sit in the director’s box. So, he’s now able to do as he promised and he doesn’t even have to pay for it!
I’m so excited and it’s taken me so long to type this, someone has probably got in before me to start the thread.
    P.S. I hope the food’s better than last night’s football  ?

    Dreadful Performance.

The midfield 2 of Bird and Hourihane is simply not working, need to drop Hourihane and give him a reality check. Both are far too immobile, especially in League 1 where teams let us have possession and put pressure on until we make a mistake. Should have got a RB in the window so we can slot Knight back into the midfield. Even though it's yet to be seen if he is ready, we should give Oduroh a go at RB.

Dobbin I thought was poor, lost the ball too often and didn't create anything up top. I thought Sibley was playing ok so I don't know why he was brought off so early and players like Hourihane stayed on the pitch.

We seem so easy to play against and Rosenior needs to sort it out fast. Teams let us have the ball and take advantage of errors we make whilst we hardly create anything to make up for the possession. It almost seems more advantageous for our opposition just to give us the ball in our half and wait for us to bugger it up. Lincoln were pretty much doing that, they constantly played long balls which hardly hit their man.

The style rosenior wants us to play… which is basically cocu ball is too easy to play against and counter.
its too slow with and without the ball, no tempo, no urgency, no production.

LR needs to adapt it to suit the skillset of his players otherwise he’ll fail in exactly the same way and for the same reasons as cocu

Although he wasn't quite as effective in the Plymouth game, McGoldrick was very impressive in the cup game against West Brom. I was pleasantly surprised by his quick movement and good change of pace for a player at the later stages of his career.

Like you said he may prefer McGoldrick to just finish away games, or he might still be managing his fitness.

Bird and Hourihane got overrun in the midfield against Plymouth as they are both not the most mobile players, prefer the ball at their feet and to dish it out. So, Sibley could be a player to bring more balance in the midfield when we are out of possession.

He is hugely able and influential. I have a sense that he is going to be used sparingly for impact - and he definitely makes one - is there going to be a pattern ? starting home games and finishing away games ?

I also wonder if there is some injury history that we don’t know about and he is deliberately not being pushed ?

Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power (Watched on Amazon)
You've probably seen the controversy online and maybe formed your own opinion already, fwiw heres mine after watching the first 3 episodes.
Personally, I think its okay.  The scenery (CGI or otherwise) is excellent, as is the soundtrack at times.  The acting and dialogue, not so great.  The story isn't really compelling yet, but its watchable enough for me at least to carry on.  I'd give it about a 6/10.
If you're not interested in the controversies, thats all you need to know ?
I'm not coming at this as a Tolkien fan.  I've seen the Peter Jackson movies and tbh enjoyed them a lot, but I've never read the books nor invested myself in the lore beyond what I can vaguely remember from watching them.  A lot of criticism I've read centres around it being Amazons vision for Middle Earth and not Tolkiens.  I can imagine as a Tolkien fan you'd be pretty disappointed, as purely a.n.other fantasy epic its not reaching any new heights - its one I'll watch then probably forget.
The diverse cast also apparently triggered a lot of people, although tbh the reviews I've read barely mention this.  Maybe a convenient distraction from the reported $1bn investment into a pretty average show?  Dunno.  Whilst some members of the cast have been pretty outspoken about the diversity of the show in the promotional tours etc, nothing in the actual show stood out as forced or cringeworthy.  If it wasn't for hearing about the controversy beforehand, I wouldn't have thought twice about it.
The Galadriel character I guess is the other sticking point.  Again, not being a Tolkien fan her combat prowess didn't really bother me (She is known as more of an angelic priestess type figure in the later movies).  She is completely overpowered compared to everyone else however which tbh was a little distracting and her characters dialogue and motivations have been written by the office junior.
I still remember quotes from PJs LotR, this however is instantly forgettable.  Not the actor, or any of the other actors fault - if you're spending $1bn on something you hire the best writers and directors, this was however created by 2 showrunners with barely any Hollywood credits between them.  It would be okay for a run of the mill fantasy show but Tolkien as with my guilty nerdy pleasure, Star Wars, are held to different standards by their fans.

I think you need to turn this on its head. The problem with freedom of speech is more the reaction of the listener.
There appears to be an assumption that every person has a right not to be offended by anything at anytime. As being offended is not an offense in law, there is no such right!
"resentful or annoyed, typically as a result of a perceived insult" is the dictionary definition. Well, loads of things annoy me and I can perceive lots of things as insults if I choose to do so.
I imagine most of us have extreme dislikes of one sort or another, but in general you let it go. However that's from a perspective of advanced age. Youngsters have no such perspective and an impatience that borders on fanatical. Peer group pressure also plays its part.
When I was a student, the union was always calling for strikes over some issue or other. In those days fortunately nobody took a blind bit of notice. "Just students with too much time on their hands. They'll soon stop when they get a job!"
Nowadays, lily-livered companies bow down at the slightest hint of protest. They need to get a spine (being gender neutral!) and face it down.

This 'poor victimised DCFC' feeling needs to be kicked into touch. It's embarrassing tbh.
Yes, there is a huge lack of consistency in applying FFP rules and we can rightly feel aggrieved over that. The idea, however, that referees are under instruction to control the game to ensure Derby struggle to get results is pathetic.
Cashin, as magnificent as he was yesterday, could have received a red card for a knee high tackle. He didn't, and although I thought yellow was correct given the split-second nature of the incident, plenty of refs would have sent him off.
Please stop the 'everyone is against us' schtick. It detracts from what we all know is a proud, fantastic club.

Collins has been good in every game I've seen him. The goal is just eluding him. The more pressure we put on him, the harder it'll be. Just go on performance and results. If we play well and score goals when he's in the team, then that's how it is. Everything else will work itself out
