4Hourihane 4 Play him at #10 if you're going to start him with Thommo alongside Bird at DM.

    8Bird 6 (5 first half 7 2nd)

27Blackett-Taylor 3 Had a decent sub app at Reading. Not really at the races against Cheltenham but I'm convinced he'll come good and not do a Flo-Jo on us.

I say quite successful. You could say ‘very successful’ I would reserve extremely successful for someone who manages to build a team that doesn’t come back down like the titanic?

anyway that was a small point in my overall post. Why is he persevering with 2 in mid when it’s clear we’re losing the battle ?

I don't think it's numbers that are the problem. 2 DMs works, provided one of them isn't MB/CH. By all means have both in the side, as long as one of them is in the #10 role. Who would I MOVE/drop? CH. IMO he is no longer suited to the DM role so, based on the goals from the edge of the box he's scored of late, I'd be tempted to have him in the #10 role. I think his goals tally would improve. Also based on recent performances, I'd relieve him of dead ball duty. Bird, Ward, NML and Sibley are all currently better at it than CH.

Just my opinion. Having said that, he will get my backing every second he's on the pitch.

  3. Why does he think it should be all about getting round the back and giving crosses. Down the middle is a decent tactic that seems completely overlooked and the oppo knows what we are going to do. Shouldn't he be varying tactics in the game to prevent the oppo being able to set up to stop crosses and, effectively, neutering whoever we have up top?

  4. A few weeks back when we were however may games unbeaten, we weren't suddenly Barcelona and now, after just 7 points from 5 games we have still only lost 2 of 14 so we aren't going to do a Forest Green either.

Why do Derby fans seem incapable of a sense of relativity? Unable to put context into a situation. A loss sees so many in a dark and dismal place, a win has them creaming themselves. Extremes, it would seem, as with just about everything in modern day life.

  5. Derby has always had scapegoats when things go pear shaped. Currently it's Warne and Bird getting the stick with Hourihane a close 3rd. Collins has been let of the hook somewhat and Sibs appears to be taking his place in the firing line. While some of the comments are valid on a single game level, they why is never looked at. A player will have an off day yet when he does, he's suddenly bloody useless. I have ones I'm not fond of. Ward and Wilson are, IMO, good wingbacks. Unfortunately for them, they have been regularly played at full back. Doesn't suddenly mean they have become useless overnight, just that they have been used in the "wrong" way and that is not the player's fault. That brings me back to Sibs... Only long spell he's had in any one role was at left back last season and he did well. What would happen if he got a run at #10? We'll never know.

  6. When, apart from his prolonged stint at left back, has Sibley had a long run in a single position? I agree with everybody who says he hasn't developed as we thought. however, we should also look at why and, IMO, Sibs isn't the problem. For him to push on I believe he needs to move and get a club with a manager who will play him in just the one role over a run of games.

  7. Game #3 at PP for me this season

    31Vickers 5

2Wilson 7 Still better going forward than as a defender but this was probably his best defensive performance for us

    35Nelson 7

    6Cashin 7

20Elder 4 Does not fill me with confidence when defending. OK going forward but no more than that

17Sibley 6 Comes on at left back. Is he ever going to get a run at #10 to show what he can do there. Only role he has had a run in was LB for about 14 games last season. Did well. He never knows where he's going to be asked to play. LB, LWB, DM, LW, RW... little wonder he's not fulfilling his potential

11Méndez-Laing 7 When he clicks, we click. A talent but one that needs nursing

    8Bird 7

    4Hourihane 7

    7Barkhuizen 6

    5Bradley 6

    19John-Jules 5.5

    16Thompson 5.5

    9Collins 6.5

  8. As an ex keeper myself, I think JW has the better all round game. The reason given for him not playing was given as he'd had a knock. He has been criticised for going down too often. I would agree but I'm old fashioned and still think you go down when injured and for no other reason. Most times when he goes down, it's at a point in the game where the opposition is getting the upper hand. I think he does it to take their momentum away. I also think he shouldn't do it for that reason. I know other teams do it, I just don't like it.

I stand to be corrected, but I believe it was similar at Millwall... Initially, their mob were just known as "Yobs".

It wasn't until that PO semi against us... and with acknowledgement to Graham Richards... that they became "officially" known as "The Brainless Maniacs".

There was a time when Millwall attended games in doctor's scrubs and called themselves "Treatment".

Oduroh was sent back by Rochdale where he was in and out of the side. He needs another loan to a National League or National League North side.

They've played 28 League games so far this season. Oduroh featured in 20 of them. That seems more like regular appearances to me than being "in and out".

  11. We set up a certain way. The way they set up saw them press our box which led to our main tactic being lump it up to Collo who was being marked by two 6'4" centre halves thereby playing into Bradford's hands. There should have been a change of shape inside the first 15 minutes and if that meant a change of personnel, so be it.

If we were really serious about this we would get some quick business done.

Doesn't really matter how serious we are, if  a player is going to cost more than we have budgeted for in the business plan the EFL agreed to OR they are not available OR their club won't let them leave/come to us OR the player doesn't want to join Derby then we aren't going to get them. No point in getting numbers in for numbers sake, especially when we have young uns like Robinson, Fapetu, Weston, Brown and others who would gladly step up to the first team if given the chance. Any player we sign, IMO, has to be one who will improve the squad/team.

Absolutely awful competition, not worth even entering imo. Even if we got to wembley i wouldn't have bothered going to such a mickey mouse event.

Glad we deliberately lost so we can concentrate on the league.

You don't "enter" it as such. If you're in L1 or L2 then you are in it, whether you want to be or not. One of the rules of the Trophy states EFL members SHALL compete... it's compulsory.

Some saying Fozzie has a calf injury , bringing Sonny B into contention for a place .I sat in the north end of the East stand last night and couldn’t believe how deep Bradley and Cashin sat when we were on the attack. They clearly worry about any speedy forwards. That leaves massive area’s in midfield for Bird and Hourihane to cover . But they don’t have the legs to do it .Burton would have had a spy at the game .

Outside chance that that was why they played deep. Lull BA into a false sense of security... or Bradley just isn't that quick anymore.

  15. TV

Vickers 5.5  Got away with several mistakes 1st half. Better 2nd

Nelson 6.5 The odd mistake but mainly solid

Wilson  5.5 Invisible opening 20. Nowhere near his usual standards

John-Jules  5 Pretty ineffective. Needs to learn to stay on his feet rather than go down at the slightest touch

Bradley 5.5 Few errors opening minutes and OK after that

Barkhuizen 6 nothing bad but nothing above average either

Collins 6 based on his 2nd half. Invisible 1st half except for his falling wardrobe imitations. Gives too many fouls away as well

Thompson 5 Twice poor first touch in the box saw scoring chances lost and his general play wasn't up to standard

Mendez-Laing 7 best of a bad bunch by a mile

Sibley 5 not at the races

Bird 7 improved the MF, all to no avail

Elder 6 Not good, not bad. I'm still not sure which question he's the answer to. Much better going forward than in defence and he's a defender

Cashin 6 huffed and puffed but, like his teammates, couldn't make a difference

Fornah 5 not the player he was in his first 3 appearances this season

Hourihane 7 improved the MF, all to no avail

Ward 6 Not good, not bad. I'm still not sure which question he's the answer to. Much better going forward than in defence and he's a defender.

The team 5 too many misplaced passes. Too many times the first touch was poor. Too many times we were nowhere near the 2nd ball. Too many times their  man in possession had 2 or more teammates open and unmarked to receive a pass. Too many times their players could romp through midfield unchallenged. Too many poor tackles.

It seems that, at the moment, both Sibley and Thommo are better 30 minute subs than they are starters.

As you know ICF/DLF were not around then, Tho the Mile End Boys were...WHU, We had a beating in the Greyhound Pub at the back of Wembley Stadium 50 of us on the coach against many more.

Just before the game had finished we could see WHU fans leaving the ground, All Derby stayed behind to cheer Roy Mac and the lads with the Shield, By that time we got to leave the ground half of London was outside there waiting for us, It didn't look good, But we had a fella in Kev O'Reilly as hard as they come, Stood on the steps and screaming at us to move forward, We had 2 choices...do as he said and get a beating or go back in the ground and get a beating when back in town, We chose the 1st option, It wasn't very good as our numbers were still coming out of the ground but soon enough the numbers were getting on equal terms...then numbers in our favour, As you said it was the Derbyshire Miners that helped take the day...and night in Old London Town.

A very hot day with dust clouds all over the place, The police just couldn't cope, You say it lasted a few seconds not where we were concerned, It was payback for the Greyhound incident, Scaffolding poles and planks were at hand, Bottles from inside the ground were used by both sides...probably the worst violence I've seen or been involved in as a 19 year old

Years later talking to some "ICF" lads who were there, They admitted it was our day, Bill Gardner who was their top lad admitted through gritted teeth that "Derby had WHU on their toes".

IIRC, when some of the first out tried to get back in, the stewards tried to shut the gates. KO told them, in no uncertain terms, what would happen to them if they didn't stop shutting the gates. Stewards left the gates alone...
