  1. When Puma was announced as the replacement kit supplier for the departing Umbro, it was said that the home shirt would be available from June. Availability date for the away and 3rd kits was also mentioned. Surely, that points to the new front of shirt sponsor already being known even if it hasn't been publicised yet?

Fair comments to a point - I should have said, to be wholly accurate we didn't have "operating losses" of £8m.  However, I would say year 1 of a new business being bought in the way it was is not really reflective of any position at all.

I haven't gone through the reports for a while, but from reading them last year my recollection is that there were extraordinarily high extraordinary costs - and operational break even.  My point, which is fact and not opinion, is that if we increase operational income by £8m, the balance sheet would remain unchanged should we increase (within that period) spending by £8m.

Surely that "extra £8M" would only mean we break even rather than lose money?

We don't have £8m in losses.

Basically, we can - seasons after not withstanding - spend £8m more on wages to have the same revenue/spending point.

On what are you basing that assertion?

22/23, we lost £10M, some of which was due to the mess MM had put us in and the costs of getting us out of Admin. Virtually the same average gate in 23/24 and other income is likely to have been similar as the one before. I expect us, based on that, to have a loss on last season but a lower one than the season before. That would mean we lost £10M in 22/23 plus maybe half of that again last season.

Your statement that we can "spend £8m more on wages to have the same revenue/spending point" doesn't seem to add up. Sending the extra gate/TV money would likely see us make yet another loss. That's David Clowes' money we'd be losing. He might be said to be "worth" £250M but what most people fail to understand is that the vast majority of that "worth" is land, buildings, plant, machinery, a football ground etc.  Unfortunately it is NOT liquid assets he can fritter away.

If I've got this all wrong, I would be ecstatic if someone could explain to me how/why so that I can better understand the current state of play. I would appreciate any explanation taking into account the £36M we already owe David Clowes.

I think the first relegation he was appointed late in the campaign and relegation pretty much nailed on any way. Happy to be corrected if wrong

He took them up 3 times. #1 and #2 saw them immediately relegated. #3 was the season before last when we nicked him 9 games in.

IIRC, prior to the first promotion they did go down with him as gaffer as you describe

This is a good question, depressing, but good:

    Vickers

    Nyambe   Nelson   Bradley   Cashin   Elder

    Thompson     Fornah

    NML                                                     CBT

    Brown

A flat back five, two defensive, busy, midfielders and then speed on the counter. Bradley in for corners.

I think with the players we have contracted to the club that's about the best we could hope for at the moment. If CBT still isn't up to much then Wilson or Ward to come in and replace him on the right, NML on the left. I hope that's not the case.

I fully expect CBT to be fit for the new season. He wasn't when he arrived and stayed that way. He has, indeed, been less than average apart from 1 decent cameo and his game against Pompey. If fit, we should see the player that did so well at Charlton.

There seem to be multiple topics on this sort of theme, so apologies if this has been covered before, but I know that Warne struggled with Rotherham in the Championship whenever he got them promoted

Was that because he faced a similar issue of having built a squad designed to compete in L1, which then was largely dismantled at the end of the season?

PW with Rotherham in the SBC.

1st time, relegated playing crap football

    2nd time, same again

3rd time he had put together a better side playing decent football (source Rotherham forums at the time we poached him). He had them 8th after 9 games. All the sides above then had played 10. Win that game in hand and they would have gone 5th. He came to us and Rotherham ended up 19th. Just maybe, the 1st 2 seasons were more down to RUFC's inability to attract the right players? Both the results and the style were better 3rd time around...

IMO, forget anything he did at Rotherham. Derby is a totally different kettle of fish. Let's see what he can put together over the summer.

  7. There's also the younger lads who might be considered. They will be named in the 18s or 21s squad, thereby leaving room for 22+ year old players in the 25 man squad (I think 25 is the number we're allowed). Cruz Allen, Tony Weston, Both Robinsons who have made match day squads already, Adebayo Fapetu, Dajaune Brown and possibly others.

Hopefully, Sibs and Collo both sign as well

    Clowes is worth what, 250m?

Around that figure, yes. However, most of it is land, buildings, a football stadium, plant and machinery etc. Little of it is liquid assets.

He has been consistent in saying the club will be sustainable and self sufficient. That means he's not going to pump cash into the club. DCFC will spend what DCFC earns and little or no more. I find it amazing some fans seem to think otherwise.

Both the aim and the hope for 24/25 will be promotion. Reality s likely to be somewhere between P12 and P21 depending on how recruitment goes.

  9. One record gone. Sheff U ended with 104 goals against and in doing so creamed our meagre total of 89 in a 38 game PL season. In fact they even beat Swindon's old record or 100 and that was in a 42 game season.

One record not beaten but equalled. Sheff U equalled our record GD of -69.

Also read an FB post claiming that in game 37, Man U passed the number of shots against in a PL season record that we apparently have had since that 07/08 debacle. I haven't been able to confirm that.

Thanks for the info. The Rams' website has him in the U18 squad, but that must only be updated each season. I wonder what list he'll be on in September...

He'll be in whatever age range he fits. Players in those squads can always play in the first team, leaving a space in the 25 man squad for a 21+ aged player.

No major disappointment in that list, Wildsmith obviously values himself higher than we can afford for a goalkeeper unless we bring in a better one whilst if Smith had stayed I would have only expected him to be a sub. Gayle is one I would have liked to have taken for a year if he wanted to stay because he knows where to be to put the ball in the net. Hopefully Sibley wants to stay with us whilst Collins might not want to be Sub most weeks so I expect he might get a longer term deal elsewhere as first choice. We will see if Warne tries to move on Fornah and Washington who have had next to no impact in league one and we will be in the championship.

A big thanks to the players leaving who all contributed to promotion out of that dreadful league, whilst I hope we see better players replacing them.

Rumours that he is a) off to Pompey and b) back to Wendy

Also rumours that Collo has an offer from Brum

Is it possible that we’ve offered Sibley a deal just to protect his value at a tribunal?

It is possible, yes. Of course, it also possible that the discussions aren't about money but what role PW wants him for. If Sibs has set his heart on an AM role and PW sees him more as a LB/LWB...

Don't you think that maybe the only test of Brown's ability is to play him at the level we're wanting him to play at. I do.

If PW et al, having seen him perform in pre season training/friendlies don't think he's quite ready, I'm quite happy to accept their opinion. If there's a slight doubt, give him some cameos in August. If the doubts are founded, it's out on loan.

I wonder how often clubs simply don't offer anything?

Seems 'polite' regardless,  but also like good business sense most of the time to offer something....even if you have a good idea they won't accept.

Sorry we don't see you as our number 1 striker,  we can only offer you 60% of your current wage to be reserve/back up so we totally understand its probably not what you want...

They might do just that.... unless they really don't want the player.

I think that it will be important for him to get some game time in pre-season and more importantly in the real thing, in the early Championship games, before they can assess what is best for him over the rest of the season.

For all we know, he could be perfectly at home in the Championship and save us some money.

PW has already said, it's in Daj's hands. he produces the goods pre season, he's in. If they think he's not quite ready, he'll go out on loan as part of his development.

Is a total guess really, none of us seen him play enough. Warne looking at him pre season hopefully

Which is precisely £0 if no contract has been offered.

If. It might only be a 2 letter word but one with huge meaning. There are posts in this thread saying he was offered a contract earlier this season and turned it down as we didn't offer enough. Weirdly enough, that rumour only seems to exist on FB and X. No reputable reports of such anywhere.

Should he have actually turned one down as it "wasn't enough", do you really think Rotherham will have offered him more than DCFC?

I think he could have offered us something if we were still in League 1, but the Championship is probably too big a step
