Brammie Steve
erm, can we talk about something that younger members can join in with, please? How does: Gregorsz Rasiak THE quite good striker, sound? Belioeve me young 'un. THE Derby County of the present day would have been much the poorer were it not for men like those referred to by we old dinosaurs as legends. 'http://www.dcfcfans.co.uk/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/wub' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='' /> PS There's nothing to stop you starting a topic and seeing how it runs. DCFCfranco
Even young derby fans should know and respect the great things this man has done for our club. Hope he gets better.

davenportram
I never saw him play I've never met him But my old man talked about him so much I researched him. A proper footballer And he still lives in Derby (wasn't he going t move back to Scotland after spurs until Brian and Peter introduced him to the joy of our city and county.) rsmini
Sometimes I think our younger supporters need a history lesson. Although its not there fault they missed the good times of the 70's. Dave Mackay had a tough act to follow, but he did it by winning the league. Always a legend in my eyes
Mary Hindge
But he does support derby. WHAT??!!?? Gods honest truth??? But this is Derby County forum??? From what Ive heard about Mackay, don't think we would of been the team we were without, heard lots of good stories of how Brian got him to sign. uttoxram75
The younger members can never understand the context of Dave Mackay joining Derby. At the time he was one of the top players in the country, same bracket as Best, Charlton, Greaves etc Today we'd be talking Gerrard, Rooney or Ya Ya Toure! Clough persuaded him to drop down to the 2nd Division, we won the league, got promoted and Mackay was voted joint footballer of the year. As Derby manager his record in the top tier was 3rd, 1st, 4th.......legend indeed.

ladyram
I didn't know he'd broke his leg twice. Sounds to me like he put some serious shifts in and had a totally different mindset towards his work than most of the footballers of today. What a guy, respect. rsmini
He was one of the best players to ever pull on a Derby shirt and I was privileged to see him play for my club. I would go so far to say he was world class. As I said in a previous thread people need to remember in the early 70's we were bigger than Man U and players wanted to move to Derby 1st and those so called big clubs 2nd. ramsbottom
For anybody not familiar with Mr Macaky...
