PBW Ram
http://www.wiganer.net/news/tmnw/sammon_departs_for_derby_county_753481/index.shtml Another source for when we're arguing about how much we over paid for Conor. 500k in here. Bargain!!! Connor Sammon has departed the DW Stadium for a permanent switch to Derby County following a summer of interest from the Rams. The move comes just a week after the Latics announced the capture of Arouna Kone from Levante in La Liga. Kone's arrival along with the return of Mauro Boselli from his loan period with Estudiantes appears to have spelled the end for Sammon who won the hearts of Latics fans with his combative displays and that goal against West Ham. Sammon was a firm fans favourite despite struggling to prove his worth at the very top. The switch to Derby is likely to benefit both parties with the powerful Irish man likely to have a big impact at Championship level. Sammon joined the Latics for a fee believed to be in the region of £600,000 from Scottish Premier League team [url=http://www.kilmarnock-mad.co.uk]Kilmarnock and it is believed that around £500,000 of that fee has been recouped in the switch the Derby. Without doubt everyone connected with Wgian Athletic will wish Connor all the best for the future and hopefully we will meet again in the not so distant future after the Irishman's goals have fired County to the Premier League. Good luck Connor.

Albert
The beauty of undisclosed fees, we have literally no idea how much we paid... At least we have a range now of £500k-£1.25 mil...

I'd say between 600k and 1.2m ( reports of a 100k sell on clause meaning we pay 600k, Wigan pay Killie 100k leaving 500k left) Don't forget though this could be the initial payment with installments to follow including appearance etc add ons
North_Stand_Ram
Interesting. Look at this http://www.football-lineups.com/tourn/SPL_2010-2011/stats/ Sammon had 15 goals in half a season, all be it in the SPL. Wikipdia said he got 18 in 27 games before leaving for Wigan. That is prolific. Also that he finished joint 5th top scorer. Decent...
Dan_Ram
I think this whole undisclosed fee situation is being played very well by GSE, personally. When we have outgoings theyre happy to disclose the information, and possibly at inflated rates to make it look like we have spent more than we actually have. The fee recieved for Shacks was suprisingly low, as was the 650/750k reported for Savies. And the Keogh and Sammon fee seem higher than they should be. Maybe its just good business from the americans as you cannot deny everyone impression of us is that we're poor at the moment and at least people wont try to hold us to ransom over transfer fees? uttoxram75
Transfer fees are rarely what they seem nowadays. It was pretty much out there that we paid £450k for Maguire last year, yet it would appear from some reports that we only paid £250k up front, the rest would be add ons for appearences etc. None of the clauses were hit so thats all we paid, £250k. There could well be a sell on clause so the money Wendy paid for him may not all be ours. Similarly with Shack, its extremely doubtful that we paid the full amount up front for him - equally we probably haven't received the full amount from Burnley. Its almost impossible for the ordinary fan to get close to the true amount being spent or received. The issue I see at Derby is the wage bill more than the actual transfer fees. If Tyson has to go out on loan to enable Sammon's pay to be met then we are still very much in a position of trying to do it on the cheap (or sustainably!). BrudeRAM
Just curious, what does everyone think Sammon's wage will be?
Alph
Why do PL teams, fans and pundits talk like the Championship is a lot easier than the PL. The PL isn't all United, City and Chelsea!!! There are 10-15 teams that Cardiff would give a good game. It's just as tough. Just in a different way. If you can get promoted playing neat football with a sprinkle of flair you'll do ok in the PL. Alternatively you could boss this division with hard work, muscle and knowing how to win at Burnley on a grim Tuesday in November, then get humped in the PL chasing shadows and collecting cards They always talk like this division is poor. It's just got a far wider range of football styles!
Ambitious
Just curious, what does everyone think Sammon's wage will be? around 8k I would say - don't think anyone in our team will be on double figures!
DCFC Else
Ive only been supporting derby since i was 12 (three years ago) this is the first time we have got anyone on a contract thats longer than 3 years correct me if im wrong. rynny
I'd say between 600k and 1.2m ( reports of a 100k sell on clause meaning we pay 600k, Wigan pay Killie 100k leaving 500k left) Don't forget though this could be the initial payment with installments to follow including appearance etc add ons With the 100k to Killie makes me think they had a percentage probably 10% which would indicate we payed 1m. The 1 thing they wouldnt do is say that they want 100k sell on because if he did play well there and got a move to a Newcastle for 6-7m they will have lost out on a fair bit of money. davenportram
Can't see how they could have recouped only 500k unles it was 16.66666% sell on Unlesss it actually means Profit of 500k rather than recouped
Pudding Jack
i really think this signing is going to work well... he doesnt need to score 20 goals a season to be worth 1m or 1.5 m or whatever... he needs to lead the line.... hold the ball up... ruffle a few feathers and all the other cliches. look at the size of the f*cker... hardworker, fast and has decent footwork for a bigman. weve needed his "mould" for 3 years at least. thats why he got a 4 year contact. because if he does fit the bill,, we'll be laughing and if we sold him as a lambert or rhodes....4 years is a lot to pay us too. we conor be spending 3 more years looking for a target man though. arf arf... ward, robinson and tyson should be better with a player like sammon cos they'll be able to focus on their type of game better. especially tyson i think. dont think he'll set the world alight against bolton... but i think derby are so much better off this season than last. 1.2 m could even turn out to be a bargain. jagerbob
He's the type of player we need - granted. We probably dont need a big man who works hard and has got decent pace to score all the goals, as everyone else will chip in. I'd still like a player like him who will get more goals though. The Ricky Lamberts of this world are few and far between.
