A quarter through the season, how are we doing?

So what would be your first term report?

How are we compared to where you think we'd be?

What do you think we will get from the rest of the season? Have your expectations changed?

Do we really ahev a have of being up there at the end of the season or do you think we will plummet down and end up in a another relegation scrap?

Your thoughts please! 'http://www.dcfcfans.co.uk/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':)' />

We're ahead of where I thought we'd be, my expectation was somewhere in the middle and that's probably where we'll end up. No

Playoffs but no relegation scrap either.

Positives are some of the new signings and development of young players.

Negatives are that we still haven't invested in the squad to the extent that was made out when the season tickets went on sale (again). We are still having to make do in an injury crisis and still have to move players on before we can bring any more in.

I agree its been a great start but I really cant see us having the quality to maintain it, I feel over xmas time will come to hurt us agin as the last few years. We are a lot harder to beat and we can see everyone puts a shihfy in but I cant see us keeping pace with some of the other sides sadly, but you never know.

Way ahead of where I think any of us expected to be. Some of the performances have been pleasing but the two most exciting things are how hard we are to beat, and how together the team and staff seem to be. We have a team that play for one another, and I haven't seen that at Derby for years.

The quality, as mentioned above, isn't deep enough in my opinion to sustain where we are, but it gives us a great benchmark for a top ten finish.

The fact the staff have signed new deals suggests that the best is still to come under this stewardship, and we'll probably (I bloody hope) see year on year improvement in the next three years - hopefully resulting in promotion.

So what would be your first term report?

Tries hard to achieve what tasks given. Punching above weight at the moment, and although areas for improvement visible(forward line, LB and Def mid), no room for financial manuver at the moment. Younger element of the class A* and a lovely suprise.

How are we compared to where you think we'd be?

I thought we would have about 12 points after the 12 games based on pre season and the clubs we would face meaning 17/18th place. So MUCH better off.

What do you think we will get from the rest of the season? Have your expectations changed?

Even if we are average for the rest of the season we will be about 10-14th at the end. My expectations of the team are up but also recognising the long injury list we are dealing with at the moment so feel we will keep on a similar vein of play, but dip after the new year when tiredness of the younger players creeps in.

Do we really ahev a have of being up there at the end of the season or do you think we will plummet down and end up in a another relegation scrap?

See above. Different spine now so no crumble, not a great strenght in depth in some positions so no staying power for another 30 odd games to be at the top.

I'll second that...

things are on the up.....thats all that matters really....if we did challenge for a play off spot that would be nice....if we went up....that would be disasterous for me....we need another couple of years competing in tthe championship.... all looks good though.. theres still the obvious places in the team we need to strengthen but that wasnt ever going to happen over the summer...not least for investment but the players just simply arnt there....ye conner magic em up lark.... well done to theo for socking it to his critics....i for one am one....but you cant fault his efforts...and i dont think its his fault he has to hold a line for us....fact is...YOU NEVER BOo0o0o0OOoooo effort. and now weve got twitter and that sh*te....dont give him abuse.. hows it going to help you mard arse. think we'll finish between 7th and 12th....if we do i'll be chuffed

How many games did we lose last season?

Don't think we'll lose many this season. Gonna be tight at the top end, specially around the play offs (always is) so a nice bit of entertainment regarding results from top 6 rivals etc..

A much better season than we've seen for a long time.

I thought we would find us 14th - 18th at the end of the season. Now I believe we can achieve 10th place perhaps even higher if we get to sign someone in january. I'm impressed how well we are doing with this squad and considering our injuries. I hope the board will reward Clough and let him sign someone in january. Someone that Nigel really want/need.

Also I'm very happy with Academy producing young talent for us. I think Hendrick and O'Brien are doing very well for guys 19 and 18 years old. And it seems there will be others soon.

Hopefully Barker, Tyson, Bailey and Riggot can soon be helping the team go forward.

Oh, and from what I saw at Millwall and Barnsley games the fans have succeeded in building the atmosphere from last season. Made me happy while my Pride Park visit and will probably help the lads on the pitch too.

We should have taken the Trent End.

If we'd have got a 100 lads in there early doors up the back, and another 100 or so further down, we could have created enough panic in there to get that vital chaos in motion.

The reddogs would have not known who was who and we could have lorded it until the old bill sorted themselves out.

We would have been escorted round the pitch to the away end and be cheered like a victorious army.

Is it still 1975?

I am happy with where we are at the moment and surprised, i think we will fall away down to mid-table as the season goes on and finish there, not too happy clough has been given a 3 and a half year deal, that is too long for me.

Yeah, because there is no chance of a manger leaving/ being sacked if a contract is in place. I still can't believe that you don't see the great job Clough has done! Which other Championship manager would you prefer, given the financial constraints?

I am happy with where we are- delighted actually, can't see us maintaining it and it will be a shame when people start moaning about Clough (Young Ram et al) when we are finishing 12th-14th as we are surely going to do and is all that can be expected.

Think we can break the seasons down into transfer windows..

First window:

Played 5 won 4 lost 1.. Perfect start, grinding out results however the performances against Watford and Brum were IMO disappointing.. The introduction of Hendrick at Blackpool made us look a lot more solid, and against Donny we looked decent.. Burnley was a blip..

Second window:

Played 5 won 2 drew 1 lost 2.. Disappointing against Coventry, we were dire.. Much better against Forest and Millwall, defended better and started to create abit more.. Barnsley was a decent performance and we were unlucky to win.. However, Leicester was a shambles and we looked really sluggish.. The quality difference between the sides, especially uptop, was glaringly obvious. Overall 7 points from 5 games is midtable form so still on track..

Third window:

A draw 1-1 at top of the league followed by a 2-2 at Reading is good.. But the performances were IMO poor and we're starting to see the real Derby County of this season.. Hard working, difficult to beat, but average-poor on the ball and strikers who (despite scoring) aren't really defending from the top well enough, allowing us to be penned back..

Predictions:

We'll slide down the table, no way are we a top 6 side despite possessing some decent youngsters and a quality CB in Shackell.. We are currently short on a decent LB, CM (that can keep the ball), AM (that can create), RW (that can take on a man/dribble) and 2 STs (that are intelligent, can control the ball, make diagonal runs and defend from the top)..

We'll be fine though, a finish of around 13th/14th isn't out of the question.. We'll be nowhere near a relegation fight and I expect to see alot of draws this season..

I had us pegged around 12th-10th at the moment so like everyone else pleasently surprised.

Positives -

The fact we're proving a lot more resilient this season, I can't see us dropping points as easily as we did last season.

The huge positives for me is the emergance of O'Brien & Hendrick. As I've said in other threads they're not automatic starters yet but they will develop into very good players for us.

Negatives -

If I'm going to be hyper critical I'd say the style of play isn't exactly easy on the eye but at the moment it's being dictated by the fact we have to play 4-4-2 because of the injuries in certain postions. Once we have Bailey/Green back fit I think Nigel will switch back to 4-1-3-2 he's been wanting to play from the outset.

In summery despite the good start I'm not holding out for a promotion push. As we can see injuries to a few key personel and we're struggling to compete a little so I see us comfortably midtable. Maybe a cheeky little FA Cup run to get the blood pressure up...

Good post. And I think the point in bold is my only concern - that people now expect a promotion push because of how we've started. Mid table would represent significant improvement, and something to build on for next year.

The Championship table is bunching up a bit now, as it usually does

How odd to be joint 2nd on 21 points, yet only 1 win/3 points behind us goes all the way down to Hull in 12th spot

Effectively the whole top half of the table is just one win off the automatic promotion spots!

So right now we’re up there and deservedly so, but I think we’ll soon be in the “pack” rather than be one of the leaders, given the tough run of games we have coming up.
