Wolves are not long gone, it only takes a bad run to be caught. The gap is 10 points. Not out of the question to close it. I actually think Wolves will get promoted however it's not a foregone conclusion. If Leicester can win the Premier League, anything in football can happen.

No man, as much as I hate to say it they are LONG gone. They would literally have to lose 5 games more than Cardiff ( and Bluebirds win all those same games) to miss out of promotion as second place. Out of 19 games. So they are going up.

As Champions ? Highly likely, since they would need to lose probability 4 more games than us and we win all ours. Just not gonna happen, bad run or not.

Let’s just focus on keeping second.

Wolves are in their bad run but they still aren't losing. Their poor recent performances have coincided with the winter football in England which was to be expected as many of their players and the manager are used to winter breaks. They will only get better as they will have more rest in midweeks from now on. Nuno is a champions league quality manager in the championship. There is a far greater chance of us collapsing than Wolves, although I don't think either side will collapse now.

That’s actually a good point. Generally speaking they haven’t been on the top of their game over the last month or so, but haven’t been beaten and always dragged a draw out of difficult games.

The most likely scenario is that they'll  win the league and set a new record points tally along the way.

How far behind Cardiff and Bristol were we a dozen games ago?

Irrelevant really, neither of those teams is made up of players playing below their natural level,  who no other team in the league would be able to either afford or,been if they could afford, attract due to not being ran by one particular agent.

It's really about how you get those players playing ,not just about wether they are playing to there natural level or not

Yep, and they've got them playing very, very well. They have too much quality and too good a manager,  just like Newcastle under Benitez last season but  maybe on another level again.

No matter how well Warnock gets Cardiff playing, Bruce gets Villa playing, Rowett gets us playing, they won't be overtaken.

It would be interesting to compare our points tally over the last 20 games with theirs. I'm pretty sure we have made up quite a bit of ground on them. Why should that not continue?

Any chance you could do "ppg" over the last ONE game and project it over the rest of the season?

Could make interesting reading?

What’s scary is that although Wolves have dropped points in their last 13 games. (10 wins 3 draws) in the time of year when everyone would thought they would struggle, the 3 draws tell a different story.

0-0 against Sunderland (Home)

Wolves 23 shots - Sunderland 1

Wolves 72% possession - Sunderland 28%

2-2 against Millwall (Away)

Wolves 20 shots - Millwall 11

Wolves 63% possession - Millwall 37%

0-0 against Barnsley (away)

Wolves 13 shots - Barnsley 7

Wolves 59% possession - Barnsley 41%

Thats their poor form.

Yep! Playing for 2nd.

Well the great sage Don Goodman says there are four or five teams vying for 2nd place. The team in 6th place are Sheff U who are 9 points behind us and in very poor form, so if there's five teams vying for 2nd place maybe we should still be hoping we can make up the 10 points on Wolves.

With wolves they simply have to get past the transfer window then have what happened to us a few years back - at least five major injuries and a midfield and defence shot to pieces - it can happen because it happened to us. Then every clubs supporters would call them bottlers without it being true

I wonder how excitable the Villa forum is with their equivalent:

We're coming after you Derby.......

Because, realistically, it is far more likely we will lose 2nd to them than haul Wolves in! Not saying it can't be done, after all we know what can happen better than most, but for now,  just hang on to second, please, let's put this thread on the back burner until the points gap between them and us, and us with Villa/Cardiff/Bristol are the other way around
