This is what I was supping this afternoon...

Utterly wonderful (if you like geuze, of course). The Memsahib hates it, so all the more for me.

Does she like Champagne though? My missus was the same  -thought it was horrible, until I pointed out that it's a similar taste to champagne (which she loves) and after that she enjoyed it. It was a mental thing - she couldn't comprehend beer tasting like that

Nope. Can't stand it, unless it's in a Buck's Fizz. Her beer tastes stretch as far as blonds and tripels - she's not at all adventurous.

It’s arrived. Seems to be a mixture of hoppy pales and novelty stouts, mainly from South Africa. As I prefer traditional best bitters I wouldn’t pay the equivalent of £4 a pint for it, but as a freebie I’m not complaining.

Enjoy - my box of that is not due for another week or so. Don't forget to cancel ypur subscription :)

If anyone else wants a freebie code for Beer52 -let me know. I have two more

A couple of utterly awesome brews tonight in a bar near the casino in Oostende, neither of which I had ever tried before.

The first one was Duchesse De Bourgogne, probably the most amazing Flanders Red it has ever been my privilege to try. This beer is matured in oak for 18 months, then mixed with an 8 month old brew which produces a product of outstanding complexity. Sweet, sour and incredibly fruity, all at the same time.

The second offering was Moinette Brune, brewed by Brasserie Dupont (known particularly for their Saison, which is a personal favourite of mine). This is packed with complex flavours, in particular chocolate, dates, caramel, brown sugar, spices etc, but it's not cloying like you would expect. It has a nice crisp hoppy finish - the balance is perfect.

Today, we went to Brugge, and had a couple at the Halve Mann brewery. The Memsahib had Brugse Zot, I had Straffe Hendrik Wild and Quad.

Yum. Off out in Oostende again tonight - Brugge tomorrow again, may go to the Bourgogne Des Flandres brewery.

It sounds like you're going around in circles.

Doing my share of twirling, for sure. Too tired to go down to Oostende tonight (was thinking of having a couple of hours at the casino, but passed). Stayed at the hotel, drinking Kasteel Donker and watching the yachts. Oh, the hardship.

Went to De Panne on the French border today. Was hoping to find some Mont Det Cats Trappist beer, but no dice, so I had a Corsendonk Pater instead. Ended up in Middelkerke where I had a lambic afternoon - Boon Gueuze Mariage Parfait followed by Mort Subite Kriek. Both beers are utterly sublime - if you like sour beers fermented using atmospheric/natural yeasts.

Luckily, I adore them.

The Memsahib stuck to Tripel Karmeleit.
