Was said to have had a slight infection but sorted ........ resultant short set back to progress. Has been visible limping on Galleries.  Haven't heard anything  since ......... .  Sept./Oct.  ??  Just hope he has all the time he REALLY needs and is not rushed back this time.

I know we will, in all likelihood, not be seeing anything of Thorne much before October/November. Just wondered, with season starting next week, if anyone had seen/read/heard any update on his progress!?!

Still married to Mildred I think

Will he play in 4-4-1-1?? Presuming that's the formation we do go with. Our over populated midfield list now has to compete for 1/3 less places.

I think he could prove to be a real maestro in central mid. As a DM we didn't always see the forward aspect to his game in full technicolour so to speak.

I totally agree with this. It's just the whole 6 players competing for 2 places thing. I'm not sure it's healthy

I hope not. I'm hoping he comes back and wins us the league.

I think we're over reliant on a player who can really play one position, in a system that's not certain to be used nearly as much this coming season...... If, and it's a if...... We get off to a great start, he's going to find it difficult to get in.

Gone are the days of walking back into the side as if they were a messiah and we missed them greatly.

GEORGE Thorne has had a small surgical procedure to ease pain he had been feeling in the leg he broke in the final league game of last season.

Thorne has been out since suffering the injury playing against Ipswich Town in May.

The midfielder has not featured in any of the pre-season matches and he missed the team's photo shoot earlier this week while in London seeing a specialist.

Derby are now hoping Thorne can push on with his rehabilitation although there is no timescale on a possible return.

"George was having a bit of pain and the small procedure has allieviated that so I would expect him now to starting pushing on again," said manager Nigel Pearson.

"He is in decent spirits because it has been a frustrating time for him, but he will be fine."

Bad news about GT's latest setback.

It seems as though Pearson's decided that we won't consider playing with a central defensive midfielder unless and until Thorne is fit. Hopefully he will be available for selection at some point in the autumn to give us the extra options and quality he provides. And hopefully we'll be playing so well without him there'll be no need to rush the guy back.
