Looks like we are seeking someone call Chris Marton...

Bristol City striker Jonathan Kodjia is set to leave the club and join Sky Bet Championship rivals Derby County in a multi-million pound transfer.

The Rams tested City's resolve with a bid of £10m earlier this week and the Post understands the two clubs have agreed a deal that could eventually net the Robins a club-record £14m.

Omitted from the side that played at Ssausagehorpe in the EFL Cup on Tuesday, Kodjia was missing from City's squad for today's big home clash against Aston Villa at Ashton Gate.

His move to the iPRO Stadium is expected to go through after the weekend, leaving City head coach Lee Johnson with precious little time in which to recruit an adequate replacement ahead of Wednesday's transfer deadline.

The Ivory Coast international was initially linked with a move to Derby in June, while Aston Villa were also rumoured to be interested in a man who scored 20 goals in his first season in the English second tier.

Johnson has always maintained that he wants Kodjia to remain at Ashton Gate, but every player has his price and Derby's bid for the 27-year-old striker, who cost just £2.1m when he joined City from Angers 13 months ago, proved too good to turn down.

Although City fans will no doubt be disappointed with the decision to sell their leading goal-scorer to a Championship rival, the deal nevertheless represents good business for the Robins.

On the flip side of that particular coin though, the timing could hardly be worse. Johnson and chief operating officer Mark Ashton now have just four days in which to target and land a replacement forward.

As things stand, 18-year-old Tammy Abraham and veteran campaigner Aaron Wilbraham are the only out-and-out strikers currently on the club's payroll.

Signed by previous City manager Steve Cotterill in July last year. Kodjia proved an instant hit in the Championship, scoring 19 goals in the second tier and another in the FA Cup in his first season in English football.

His performances brought him to the notice of the Ivory Coast national team and the French-born forward made his international debut in a friendly fixture against Hungary in Budapest in May.

New Derby manager Nigel Pearson is looking to bolster his attacking options as he tries to build a squad capable of challenging for promotion to the Premier League and he is a confirmed admirer of the pacey Kodjia.

Kodjia's move to County could see Chris Marton make a switch to Fulham.

Just now, YouRams said:

I said at the beggining of the season I wouldn't want a silly spend again, last night changed my mind, can't stand watching that dross for a full season. It's not coming out of our pockets bring on the spend!

Nothing like a good u-turn
