Thierry Ennui
Can anyone explain the thinking behind it? Seems to me you could make an argument either way if you wanted, particularly with away goals not counting.
RadioactiveWaste
I'm not sure about the general case, but I think we could lose a play off tie in an away first leg, as in too far behind to come back.

jagerbob
By the 2nd leg you know exactly what is required to get you overall victory. In the first leg, you know you itd still not over and you are only half way through the tie. If extra time or penalties or needed they are at your home ground also. If you get to Wembley you get to have a massive pitch invasion. In reality teams 'prefer' the 2nd leg at home, but in all truth, the thing which really decides the tie is who is the better team over the 2 legs no matter who is at home first. EnigmaRam
It doesn't make a blind bit of difference to me. Everything is based on that first result to determine what you need to do at the next game. Shut up shop, all out attack etc. whether home or away you need a result in that first match. If it's away first a draw is a result

AshfieldRam
from recent memory, i can only think of Palace winning at Brighton when they were away second leg. I think it would make a massive difffernce psychologically if nothing else.
SaintRam
Lads just need to beat Hull 4-0 at home again and it won't matter which leg it happens. We aren't gonna lose by 4 goals at their place.
ImARam2
It doesn't matter which leg you play first or second - just win both home & away and you go through to the final.
Kernow
I'd say if we can replicate the home league game, we wouldn't have to worry about the second leg.

Rampage
Nice to open iPro to show the probable Hull away game on screens. Mel could go state of the art on beam backs as long as the away ticket allocation is sold. If we do get promoted then they could do every untelevised game at the iPro. Go for it Mel. You have done everything else well.

And we could afford to lose the home game by a single goal and still go to extra time and penalties.

We got to the final. Think we won 3-0 or 3-1 at their place when they kept running on the pitch trying to get the game abandoned.

Yeah I couldn't be bothered to go back to 94 with it. 2-0 at home, 3-1 at their place.

Though not a massive sample size it seems that having your away leg first could provide a slight advantage. edit: though 8 winners out of a possible 17 have won it playing their home leg first.. evens it up a bit. Though it suggests reaching the final is more likely with your home leg first.
toddy
Makes no difference what so ever, games are there to be won. Win 'em and we are up.
