My Fear of the our Summer Transfer List

i guess this season could go one of 3 ways.

Wassall looks like he may take us up and manages it. At this point he stays on.

Wassall looks like he may take us up but we go out in the play offs. At this point he may stay on. It may depend who else is available.

Wassall looks like he won't take us up and it's confirmed we miss out on the play offs over the last few games.

During this period of time, who is in charge of out transfer policy?

Under Evans there was the fabled list of 10 players for each position, which if still in existence would have to be duplicated with a list of those we might get if we got promoted. However when will someone be in a position to start the ball rolling. I know the policy is complicated by by promotion conundrum but the uncertainty about the Head Coach position makes it a potential minefield.

I presume we won't be getting any loans in this season, so that shouldn't be an issue, but if we are looking at players who are out of contract in the summer, those discussions should have started already.

My concern is the prospect of either someone in the club (Rush?) lining up generic players, Wassall asking for players he may never manage or waiting for a potential replacement Head Coach having to entering a window quicker than Tyrone Mears.

The other fear I have is will we have a repeat of the last 2 windows of a panicky, no excuses policy with little thought towards the balance of the team/squad. We don't want a story of a Mum (MM) giving a 6 yr old (Clement) huge supply of ingredients to make a cake then return to the kitchen an hour later to say 'My, what a mess you have made'.

If you think that all sounds scary then double it as we probably need to sell/release anything between 5-10 players. Who is making those decisions?

Strap yourself in and try not to think beyond the next 90 minutes.

Clement needs to take some blame, Mel said he'd back any manager so they had no excuses and Clement signed every transfer off. He signed Blackman on a highlights video but there's so much more to signing a player than that. Attitude, work ethic and personality type surely must be considerations. Are they consistent? Well you could say Blackman isn't, one good run for part of a season. We need a manager who'll take control and make the right decisions, not just go along with suggestions.

I thought Blackman was the only signing Clement asked for by name?

He knew him from Blackburn.

The managerial change and the peculiar recruitment set up resulted in an excessive number of signings last summer.

i assume that with Dw in charge the focus will switch more towards the academy products.

I'm not expecting much incoming transfer activity.

I think so, I'm trying to remember from interviews and the breakfast club reports. Clement just got in whoever they suggested by the sounds of it then watched a video to see how Blackman is doing these days. Not really the sign of a thorough professional looking to make his name in the game?!

From the sounds of it, he maybe thought the job would be easier than it was.

Still would love to hear his side of things though, to come to a fair conclusion.

I'm in agreement with the op, it's all too easy to see us making the same mistakes again, for similar reasons.

These fabled lists were clearly fictitious. Over the last couple of years we seem to have pursued every player we've been linked with doggedly, offering increasingly astronomical fees, because we didn't seem to have any alternatives or any scouting going on to find any alternatives.

We were linked with Butterfield for weeks and our bids kept going up and up until they reached £5m and Huddersfield eventually took the money and ran, sharing it with our rivals Boro due to their stonking sell-on fee.

We were linked with Shackell for weeks and Burnley again finally said the money was too good to turn down.

We started being linked with Blackman and I feared the worst. A striker who hadn't scored since the early weeks of the season because his club had started playing him out of position as a winger. And we wanted him as a winger. Eventually we yet again paid a vast fortune for a player with only a few months left on his contract.

Over the last many months these lists don't appear to have evolved, for example with the continual links to the likes of Aniechebe (please no).

The only players who came in as a surprise were Camara and Johnson, but again both on absolutely stellar fees far above their "market" values.

I fear the summer transfer spending because we only ever appear to buy quantity instead of quality. What we have needed is to bring in players demonstrably better than we already had, who should be able to walk into the team and take it to the next level, with no squad disruption because everyone would be able to see these players improve the side. Instead, we've just bought lots of players at roughly the same level of what we already had, who often can't even make the bench.

The transfer policy over the last couple of seasons has been so poor, it can't get any worse over the coming summer. But, yes, I still fear it too.

I don't think it's too difficult to work out who needs to go I'll have a stab at it.

Has warnock got much left on his contract?

Sammon must be going at the end of the season

Pearce?

Baird?

Bent?

I doubt we will be able to get rid of Weimann.

From what I've seen of Blackman I think he is a good player. He has got a good first touch and made a big impact yesterday.

This is just a hunch but i think pc brought in blackman because he thought martin was going to go and camara to make up 4 wide players and ollson so we had two left backs which would make sense, but with martin staying he felt he had to play blackman out wide which didnt work.

I think in general the two wide players whoever they are except  camara because we have not seen enough of him have not produced this season compared with the last two seasons. As for going forward i would like to see a change in formation so we have two up front. Summer transfer for me is a right wing back coming in. The rest are good enough to consistently be challenging at the top of this division.

Warnock's contract is up at the end of the season, I believe. Think Sammon's might be up too.

Albentosa may well go, unless Malaga can't agree the fee with us.

Don't see Baird at Derby after the summer either.

Bent, Pearce, Shotton, Roos, and a slew of u21 teamers as well.

Buxton might go in search of 1st team football, which he deserves. Would suit anyone in the Championship, just don't see him getting in ahead of Shackell, who has been consistent.

All depends on who is in charge come the summer.

The level of transfer activity will depend on which league we're playing in. If we get promoted then I can see us needing at least 4 new signings - players who will be definite starters. Should we end up staying in the Championship, I don't anticipate many additions to the current squad, on the basis that, to get out if this division, we already have the quality but need someone capable of moulding them into a team.

However, should we get promoted and depending on who is in charge of team affairs, I would still have major concerns about us spending money on the right players for the right positions. We don't have a good record in the last 2 transfer windows and accepting that some of the responsibility for that may well lie with Clement, there are others who are culpable, some of whom are still at the Club.

4 new players if we go up? I would imagine double that

I think we need 4 if we don't go up just to get a balanced squad (as well as getting rid of 8+

Where was Martin going? Is this part of the Clement leaving conspiracy theory?
