I'd be very disappointed if Bent doesn't get his chance tomorrow. If Martin start's (which I hope not) fair enough, but if Blackman starts then I feel that must be the end for Bent. He always looks lively when he's grabbed 10-15 minutes sub appearances and he's well overdue his chance.

Not sure in the correlation.

Money on the formation being our usual 4-1-2-3 with Thorne being back in.

This may be naive, due to lack of match fitness, but i'd quite like to see the free running Maclaren team of last year (or at least 2 years ago) and see if it still works.

normal back 4 with Thorne, Bryson and Hendrick and then Russell, Ince and Martin.

it was just full of running and attacking threat, but with a stronger defence than 2 years ago.

Maybe im just being nostalgic, but it'd be nice to see Martin get some Bryson style interplay to give him the benefit of the doubt.

and if all else fails then we've got one hell of a bench to fall back on.

we could make wholesale changes at half time if it didn't work an still have a chance of being pretty good.

I sort of agree with this Srg but if the formation morphs in to 4-2-1-3 then we will have the same problem as Tuesday with gaping holes in the top half of the pitch. We have enough wide players now and need to use them so the midfield can work effectively with the front line.

Don't think it will morph, it never usually does.

FWIW, I would be going with Thorne, Butterfield and Hendrick as the three with Blackman and Camara flanking Martin. My heart will sink if I have to suffer Johnny Russell again so soon after Tuesday.

No width up front, no width in midfield, compounded by the fact that you've also left out Christie who would also supply width.

Apart from that?

Can't see any problem.

Johnson played very well for Norwich out on the left and scored goals.

Christie is great going forward but not so good defensively.

Hendrick can be good out wide on the right.

Thorne is the engine and him and Butterfield are the creators

Ince and Blackman would work well together and give us loads of pace up front.

Carson  is the best keeper so again for this game against Birmingham I'd go

           Carson

Baird     Keogh   Shacks  Warnock

        Thorne

Hendrick            Butters           Johnson

   Ince

         Blackman

Subs ..      Grant   Buxton   Shotton  Camara   Bent   Christie   Martin

What has ever suggested to you that Hendrick is good on the right?

He's played RWB and done well and he's been good further forward on the right.

Im telling you that team would be good sometimes you have to know what your talking about and think outside the box.

Cant be any worse than Martin and Russell performing

So as a fill in for all of total 5mins, that's enough for you is it?

Steven Caulker came on up front for Liverpool against Arsenal and they equalised, maybe they should start him alongside Benteke at the weekend.

Thinking outside the box?

Stuart Pearce did that when he substituted Nicky Weaver for Claudio Reyna and moved David James to centre forward.

Another word for 'thinking outside the box' is 'mental'.

Yes it was crap, but yes it could get worse... we could lose, for example.

One swallow, a summer does not make.

Don't need to start reinventing the wheel. Go back to what works, don't take something bad and make it insane.

Like Clough playing Jay at CF.

Ince and Blackman are proven strikers .

Johnson is proven on the left .

Tell me one player out of position in that team I proposed.
