sage
A free agent with a contract to Newcastle for the next 2 years? Not sure you have the right player. You're right. Yoan Gouffran not Yoann Gourcuff. Bloody French.
Stimacked
Doesn't look like we are going to get Butterfield after all. The article in the Det is quoting Derby as saying we won't pay over the odds for players and had made 3 bids which reached the maximum valuation we have of him. Mackworthram, heard anything new on this?
Ted McMinn Football Genius
Doesn't look like we are going to get Butterfield after all. The article in the Det is quoting Derby as saying we won't pay over the odds for players and had made 3 bids which reached the maximum valuation we have of him. Mackworthram, heard anything new on this?A good sensible business approach, a player is only worth to us what we are prepared to pay.If other clubs think we are a cash cow, they are still to understand the "BIG SAM" approach to business. Just because we have the money doesn't mean we are going to pay beyond a players worth, great to hear from a Rams POV.
tomsdubs
Anything above 2.5m for Butterfield is crazy for me, decent player but he really isn't worth that.

Carra
Agree. He's a good player, but not worth half of the £5 million Huddersfield want. Ridiculous tbh.
Anag Ram
There's always a danger of having a large squad of average players rather than a medium sized squad of good ones. The players we bring in should be better or at least different to the ones we have already. We should also have a good chance of selling them on at a profit or in the case of Baird, Warnock etc, using their experience to help younger players.I am glad we aren't signing out of panic. tomsdubs
I was very worried at one point that we were panic buying, Huddersfield assumed we were and pumped the price up. Looks like it has backfired on them now though, they need cash and Butterfield has had his head turned. The emergence of Hanson has definitely helped us out. Personally I think Hanson will be a better player in time.
Charlie George
Perhaps reason he's no longer coming is that he's taken up being a jockey. He rode a winner at Thirsk today !I blame Chris Evans !

ronnieronalde
Step One: @Mostyn6 suggests we shouldn't be rushing out to sign another player when ours are coming back. That we're in danger of having too big a squad at too great a cost.Step Two: The Mostyn common sense thread gets heated and most people agree we desperately need cover, Mostyn's ambitions for the club are seriously brought into doubt.Step Three: we're linked with Butterfield, Stephens, Antonio and whoever else. forum goes into meltdown about how they're worth every penny and are going to go on and be the next beckhambauercantonmessisuarez and it's totally amaze balls that we're signing them, screw Hendrick, Bryson and Hanson, they're not good enough anyway.Step Four: the price goes up by another half a million, then another half a million a day and they're STILL worth it, Derby are defintitely NOT throwing money around for the sake of it. Sam Rush is a genius who always gets his man. We only need another tow or thee signings and Stephens. Butterfield and Antonio are the 3 that we need.Step Five: there are doubts as to whether they'll sign and that maybe we'll get someone in on loan anyway. Who's going to be the next GiggsScholezinho cos he looks good for Liverpool U21'sStep Six: Butterfield, Stephens and Antonio suddenly become average again and people heave a huge Bananas of relief that we haven't paid any more than 2.5m for them cos they're not worth anymore, and anyway Hendrick, Bryson and Hanson are about ready to come back and Hanson is going to be the next MaraZiziFigoascoigne all rolled into one.Step Seven: I STILL expect him to sign and watch the champagne corks fly once his signature is dry and there's a dcfc vid of him Sam and Mel giving each other puppy eyed love looks across the Moor Farm office table which is full of Jammy Dodgers and shortbread bisuits.Standard transfer speculation shocker, where fans do more double turns than a decent Tom Daley half pike with a twist and a backflip :-)Patience is a virtue.
