Mr Darren Ashley Bent

I think we have to look at changing the system next season, as although it is brilliant when it works I think too many times this season teams have sussed it and then when the talisman got injured we were buggered. So for that reason I think the ability and experience of Bent would be a great addition.

Bent is a goal machine. Get him in.. work on a formation that allows us to play well with 2 strikers.    I need good news after mclaren and ward news.

Absolutely. Having Ince and Bent would mean we can then focus on the problem. Our defense.

Hope not.

Doesnt offer enough from open play, especially considering the wages he'd be on with us.

He's useful in certain situations, but would like us to have a young, quicker striker to run in behind and give us something different to Martin. Bent is just purely a poacher.

Goals win games. What more do you need?  If everyone does their specialist job and stopped trying to do loads of jobs, we perhaps would've done better!

He's great to have coming off the bench when chasing the game. A fantastic goalscorer.

But he doesn't do anything when starting. He doesn't have the creativity that Martin has, or the ability to keep the ball. He doesn't offer any pace either.

So this would be a good signing, providing it's smart financially. I just hope we don't overpay for him.

Arguement assumes another player couldnt do better/more to contribute to the overall success of the team.

Martin a perfect example, offers goals and plenty from open play.

As I said, not denying Bent is useful. In games where we're dominating possession and camped in the oppositions half, he's good to have on. And if he was cheap, I wouldnt have a problem with buying him, but the wages he would demand arent justifiable imo.

The smart and obvious thing would be to hinge his contract heavily on his performance. Such as a very healthy bonus for goals and promotion bonus that also leads to a higher wage.

After his shocker against reading , unless he was still ill or something,.. It's a no from me unless he takes a massive wage cut.

Great goalscorer and professional. Would be delighted. And it's not my money, so if the board think they can afford him, I'd be very happy to have one of the best English forwards around playing for the Rams. Gives us options. Will teach the likes of Calero, Bennett, Vernam, Thomas and Zanzala a lot about finishing.

Bent would be an amazing signing for us. His usefulness was definitely shown when we played Blackburn, they came to park the bus so Mac put Bent on in the 63 mins, 5 mins later he scores and then kills the game off later and also against Brentford away where he scored that late equaliser.

He is a natural goal scorer who gets in positions and gets those goals that would be vital for us.

Not at all, but I doubt many have his scoring ratio this season.

A lot of ifs here but bear with me:

If we sign Bent

If we have a fully fit Chris Martin ready for next season

If we can find a formation that allows them both to play to their strengths

Has there been a better strike partnership at this level?

True.

I dont doubt his poaching abilities. But when he doesnt score he's nothing but a passenger.

The record of this Derby team with him in it, isnt the best either. Now of course, it would be ridiculous to blame him for that, but I just dont really think he's the sort of player that's compatible with the way we want to play.

I see him as the next Kevin Phillips, very useful at this level if prepared to just come off the bench.
