Not so much - we were on an upward trajectory and a good portion of that team in div 3 played in div 1 two years later.

It's the relegation years that tend to yield the players badly thought of, generally due to lack of heart and effort, coupled with being poor.

There's some great Eddie Lewis lines in Edgar Smith's 'Bad Worse Worst'.

In one he describes his excitement at reading that Derby have signed an international midfielder, only to scroll down and find that it's a 33 year old, plying his trade in league 1.

"Billy says that all his searches for a quality left sided midfielder keep coming back to Eddie Lewis. You have to wonder what kind of scouting set up the club has in place for this to be true."

That was the book born off of the Baseball Bat Fanzine (now Ramspace) wasn't it? Made for some brilliant reading to be fair that year and the one after....

You can add Derek Hales to that he was garbage, I can remember signing a forward from Middlesbrough who was Danish I think who was garbage sure it was in Smith era.

Mears - walked out on the club

Mceverley - consistently poor

Malcolm - no explanation needed

Davis - possibly our worst ever signing

Todd - past it

Fagan - lower league dross

Miller - mercenary

Earnshaw - dwarf centre forward

Pearson - lost it

Lewis - dire

Subs

Price - welsh keeper who has achieved almost nothing

Griffin - absolutely pants
