ChaddesdenRam
Atkins, O'Connor, Gjokaj, Hoganson and Ball all released. Derby County have released five out of contract players. Goalkeeper Ross Atkins, defenders James O’Connor, Valentin Gjokaj and Michael Hoganson, as well as striker Callum Ball, were due to be out of contract this summer. Head Coach Steve McClaren has made the players aware of his decision in order to help them find new clubs as early as possible. Atkins and Ball are products of Derby’s Academy. Atkins made only one first-team appearances and gained first-team experience at several Conference and League 2 sides, while Ball scored three times in 31 appearances. He gained first-team experience at Coventry City, Torquay United and Notts County. O’Connor joined from Doncaster Rovers in the summer of 2012 and made 23 appearances. He spent time on loan at Bristol City this season before suffering a thigh injury that required surgery. Gjokaj and Hoganson arrived from FC Luzern and Newcastle United in 2012 and made a combined total of ten appearances for Derby’s first team, and recently spent time out on loan at Conference sides Barnet and Alfreton Town respectively. Derby County would like to wish all five players the best of luck for the future and thank them for their services. Tricky1884
I have a feeling he will be offski regardless of what league we're in I won't cry if he did but he's been better under Steve and he's been good for Derby all in all.
mwram1973
I won't cry if he did but he's been better under Steve and he's been good for Derby all in all. I agree, i think he's a totally different player now. That Ipswich match, he was dire, walking about could tell he wasn't interested. Second half he came out and was well up for it and since then i've seen his hunger back. ALL down to our new coaching staff, and he's not getting personally blasted in public by an inept manager. ramsbottom
I guess B4 will be taking his Y**ks Out banner on Sunday now they've gotten rid of his favourite player Ball... Such a shame, he was so like Dean Sturridge...
Carl Sagan
Whatever division we're in it's common sense to exercise the option on Ward's contract and retain him for another year. He's proven quality in the Championship; he'd have an impact at Premier League level. And, if we don't want him longer term, we try to sell him and pocket a few pennies. Cisse
I was hoping Gjokaj would develope a good Premiership player. Well he's so young that he still might.
Uptherams
Legzdins Naylor Eustace Ward Davies Bailey All off after the play offs I guess It is amazing to see (minus Eustace and Ward) on top of the players released, just how many irrelevant squad players we have. Frees up funds for new arrivals. Just waiting to see what the decision on Barker will be.
Stive Pesley
Gjokak was a shining example of Nigel's overseas talent raids. If Steve Mac is getting rid of him then that just makes him a BIG RACIST Or something
