Think it’s worth remembering the lad is only 22, moved to another country joining a team that’s struggled whilst bringing through a number of academy players.
Apply some context, not all players hit the ground running.
Maybe if we stick with him, let him settle in, not get on his back (when stadiums reopen) we’ll get to see the best of him?

I find this whole thing depressing. In the post-match interview it sounded as if Sibley knew he had to hold his tongue, but what I took from his comment at the end that "I'm not here to sit on the bench" made me think he won't be here much longer. Especially if Rooney continues to take credit for playing him in his right position for 45 minutes for the very first time this season. After which, we see another Messi-esque goal, which should surprise no one.
Football's such a simple game. Derby are desperate for creativity and a goal threat. Absolutely desperate. So it's not hard to think we might want to play our most creative forward-thinking player and then put him in the position where he can do most damage to opponents.
I'm glad Louie is a genuine Ram and loves playing for Derby more than anything. It means there's just a chance he might stay if he has a run in the team till the end of the season.

The credit goes to Sibley alone. It happened despite of Rooney, not because of him.

As shown tonight, our coaching staff have wasted Sibley's talents all season.

They certainly like to tempt fate in their commentary. Good to have proof of the demons they can unleash!!!!

I’ve been consistently frustrated with how little Sibley has played under Rooney but I’m hesitant to criticise his comments.
Different players are motivated in different ways, they’re unique people with varied personalities. Rooney may well know that Sibley will respond well to this. We don’t have that knowledge of what’s appropriate for this team
But I do think it’s high time to mix up the attacking plan. Getting Sibley playing off Kazim seems like the natural next step, for me. Or Watson and Knight playing in front of Shinnie in midfield? We do need a change to start creating more chances. More appearances for Gregory and Waghorn doesn’t seem to be it.

Love this, never agreed with something more. Even if we get relegated, we still have our academy which is one of the best academies in the country, and our young players will always be able to step up and keep us out of trouble, like how last season Knight and Bird stepped into the first team at the start of the 2020, and we began to pick up wins. I’ll always remember games like the 2-1 win at home to Charlton more than others because of Jason Knight’s double, or the 3-2 win against Millwall because of Sibbo’s hattrick.
Anytime one of our academy players scores or has a great game it feels like so much more of an achievement than say if Lawrence, Jozwiak, Roberts or even Bielik do (sorry Bielik still love you). It fills me with a sense of achievement that our club has really accomplished something and makes me proud to be a fan. With the millions of pounds being spent across the leagues these days it’s something special to see us develop so many young players and have them be a huge part of the first team picture. How many clubs can say that they have that?
Our academy is, currently, perhaps the most special thing about the club right now, and many people deserve a lot of credit for how integral it has become to how we do things at Derby.

Really don’t get why he singled out Sibs. He looked really bright. And a massive tryer. How on earth Waggy and Joz get ahead of him is unreal. Their end product is horrendous. Got to start with Sibley and Watson in the next game. He can’t possibly stick with the same 11 when we haven’t scored in the last 4

Not for the first time, I'm with @angieram on this one.
I've supported Derby for over 40 frustrating years, sometimes up, mostly down, and recently I've found myself pondering on what it actually means to support the club.  After all, there is almost no link between the Derby of the late '70s and that of today - not the players, manager, owners; not even the ground.  Perhaps the kit, if you squint in a low light...
I think it was Rowett's preposterous sale of Will Hughes that really crystallised it for me - it's through the development of the club's young players that I most identify with the club.  I really enjoy watching young football players develop; like the vicarious thrill of hearing fans of other teams talk about "that young Derby player" they've seen; even more so when, like Buchanan this season, they show it on a bigger stage.
That's why, after yesterday's disappointment, I found myself looking at other results - Will Hughes at Watford, obviously, but also Jack Stretton at Stockport, Farrend Rawson (& Nigel Clough) at Mansfield, Charles Vernam at Bradford, wondering where JH-I is at Stevenage....  These players (and manager) are always "Derby" to me.
And so, after Rooney's ill-advised public comments about Louie Sibley yesterday, I no longer care whether Rooney goes or stays.  For me, Derby County isn't about Wayne Rooney, it's about Louie Sibley, Max Bird, Lee Buchanan and the others.   Keep going, boys.

I hope Sibley can take it. It must be very tough for him playing out of position, seeing Watson get praise for being brought in to play centrally when this is Sibley's position but he's never selected to show what he can do there. Yet last season he showed us how good he was playing centrally. It's a very weird one on Rooney's part.

Its starting to change my opinion of Rooney on its own. Think how excited we were after that hat-trick ironically against Milwall.

Rooney seems to be holding Sibley to a higher standard than everyone else for some reason.
Its easy to say he has to do more in his cameos but we are all sitting there watching Waghorn do nothing and watching Jozwiak stand on the ball by accident a million times a game while doing nothing else so that excuse really doesn’t wash. We are completely insipid from open play and we have an exciting and creative attacking midfielder twiddling his thumbs. It’s really bizarre

Yep, Rooney is being a right rick. He's regularly the most impactful sub (even when it's usually only 10 minutes he's given) and it's always, "he needs to do more." Meanwhile Waghorn, Jozwiak, Gregory etc. get much more chances than him and have been woeful for the majority of the time, yet seem to receive much less criticism than Sibley.

Do we think that this “experience” will help young players like Sibley in the long run or will it hinder their progress? Sibley and Bird seem worse than they were a year ago. Buchanan and Knight seem to be about the same level.
