    Coulda shoulda woulda 😉...

The post-match interview by whoever they sent out to face the press, described our goal as 'scrappy'.. really ?! Sure, you could perhaps be slightly disappointed with how easily we carved them open and finished a flowing move by giving their keeper no chance with an emphatic finish into the bottom corner with the keeper rooted to the spot.. but 'scrappy' ?!! Yeah, whatever mate !

Loved the first half and thought at times we went through them like a knife through butter. If Ozoh hadn't have gone off it would have been 2 or 3-0 i think. Osbourne didn't look great but i guess that can happen and we looked gassed out after 70 minutes. But crowd stuck with them, we dug in and looked comfortable.
Cardiff look prime relegation fodder tbh. I thought they were playing walking football with no energy, passion or tempo.  They don't have the quality to play the way they want  to and ultimately despite having a lot of the ball did f*** all with it. I thought it was interesting how their fans also still seemed to think we were terrible and it's a game they should have won. Similar thoughts by Bristol so maybe us being such underdogs is going to really help us get a grip in the division

My next door neighbours has had a season ticket and a parking pass at their place for years. Last season they took his parking space off him because it was needed for corporate, this season they've took his seat off him, again for corporate, they've given him alternatives for both but to say he's pissed off is an understatement. Say's they don't care that he was there when they were only getting 15000 in league one! 15000? the giant of English football with the loyalist fans in the country?? Doubt there the loyalist fans in the county😁

So, this massive waiting list of fans struggling to get to a game.
My sister lives in Keyworth with my  mad keen Newcastle United brother-in-law, my niece and her kids live in West Bridgford,
They thought it would be good to get tickets for the league cup game but would probably struggle.
Six seats together in the Trent end, no problem.
They said half their school were there 😂

I don't know exactly why....but I really love this team of players.
    More than I can remember.
There's just something about the 'dynamic', and the characters dare I say?
The basics that I enjoy are there, like Billy's team we arent bullied and can mix it physically (Nyambe, Nelson), a few 'characters' that I'm proud are Derby players (Cashin, Wilson, Ebou) who play with pride and a massive smile on their faces, plus going forward we've got absolute pace to burn (Jackson, NML), and technical ability (Ozoh, Kenzo, Yates).
We look dangerous at set pieces, don't concede many goals. No more, one-paced 'how are we going to score' teams (dare I say like we could look with Bird, Hourihane).
Yesterday we deserved the win. Got the goal and then restricted Cardiff to pretty much nothing. Second half was eventless but that's what we wanted.
I'm not saying we've cracked the code,  but when we play well I love the physical, pacey, skillful way we play. More enjoyable than lots of the games we won last season.
We actually have players who as a kid I'd have worshipped and I think that's been missing for a long time. JWZ, Ozoh, Adams, Kenzo.....are all players that make me smile and enjoy football that bit more.
Really hope we can see the team from the last couple of games a fair bit this season, with the odd 's***thouse 'boro' performance thrown in.

Am off to this one as it's the day before my birthday. Hope to see a similar performance to what was served up against Bristol City. I'd drop Laing just because of international duty and use him for the last 30 to give us a bit of pace in behind late on. I'm quite excited given how we played in the last game against Bristol. COYR

Thanks. My mum says that I'm in a bit of a grey area as am overqualified for a lot of positions but not experienced enough for a lot of stuff in the private sector which puts me a little in between a rock and a hard place. But hopefully it'll all work out.

Thanks. I've got a good shot at a post-doc opportunity at Oxford as the lead likes my research but it's still a relatively long shot. If not I've got potentially some teaching lined up at Leeds for at least a semester to cover rent and they owe me 2k back pay as well. That and some savings fingers crossed it'll all be okay.

Cardiff have played a 4231 in every game they've played so far this season, ultimately leading to them being the worst team in the division in the first four games. I know their manager wants to ring the changes so I guess we will see who comes in - I suspect a new keeper, perhaps
They have one of the worst goalkeepers in the league, for me, in Ethan Hovarth. The backline includes to makeshift midfielders at full back: O'Dowda and Ng. Calum Chambers, Dimi Goutas and Jesper Daland should be decent centre backs at this level but obviously could and have been got at. The defensive midfielders in the system, Siopis and Robertson are incredibly soft too. They have some decent players in attack, although no idea what level Ramsey is at currently. I suspect not an incredibly high one, in truth. Willock is a decent player.
I like the match up, I think we could quite easily beat them up in midfield and keep their out-of-confidence attackers living off scraps. it's the first league game we have been made favourite for too, so perhaps a game of expectation which possibly might not play too much in our favour. The international break could be big reset button for them. El Ghazi is an interesting one, he seems to have fell off a cliff professionally. He had a decent season in Eredivisie with PSV in 22/23 after a couple of decent years with Villa (10 Premier League goals in 20/21) but had his contract terminated after that year with PSV, went to Mainz played very briefly and then disappeared with his contract terminated again - now at Cardiff.

Interviews aren't always what they seem. The example you gave is a classic one of too clever for what we need or too experienced. The purpose of the statement is (sometimes/often) to see how the interviewee reacts to the situation. Ultimately,  any businesses will always be better off with overqualified staff for a given job rather than the opposite. Think a PL player playing L1, that will work. A L1 player playing Champions League not as much.
A PhD is a stamped and sealed way to demonstrate that someone excels academically. I work for a firm that employs quite a few of these folks. The reason for hiring them are not the diploma itself but the skills, intellect and determination they bring, which are required to get a PhD.  That is what the interviewers want to know about.
Hope it works out for you. All the best.

I have been in a similar position recently as was made redundant and I was applying for jobs far junior then the role I was made redundant from.
Inevitable questions were are you going to get bored really quickly, are you just going to leave after you find a better job, will you not miss managing people etc. But after I knew I was going to be asked about this in every interview then I quickly came up with positive tailored responses in advance.
Forewarned is forearmed, so if you think that you are being rejected on the basis of your PhD and not being the right fit in the business then you have chance to turn that round during the interview when they start probing around that - give them examples of how you're a great team player for example in your social life, how you've worked on projects that have required collaboration with other team members etc etc.
The positive thing which you probably don't see at this moment is that you are getting interviews.

    Wow, that sounds tough.
It seems employers are ruling you out for possibly being too clever yet discount your personal choice to apply for their vacancy.
But job applications are two way processes. The company has to be right for you. Sounds like you just haven’t found the right one to make the best use of your obvious skills.
    All the very best

I'd definitely recommend reading the looming towers by Lawrence Wright. It's an excellent write up on the operational and organisational failures of the US which allowed the attack to take place.

Yeah the tv show was really good too tbf! 🙂 Pretty much and simply put the US had all the pieces of the puzzle but turf wars and a bit of complacency allowed the attack to happen. It's also worth remembering that the attack could have been a lot worse. Al-Qaeda also targetted the White House and the houses of Congress but were fortunately foiled on the latter two.
