Mel, Erik, whoever, Please just give it to Mac until the end of the season! He's already there at the games anyway! Anything is better than this. Even just scoring a goal and losing would be an improvement.

You would think Mel would not want L1 money for a.takeover. Simples put Mac in charge tonight.

I accept our squad has limits but were talking about having enough to merely avoid relegation, not win the league. I believe there's enough ability to at least play better than they are currently. I watched Birmingham vs Rotherham and Rotherham play better football than us with a lower quality squad. It's not just Jozwiak. Sibley, Knight, Bird, Lawrence, Clarke. Even Waghorn. They'd all probably be better in other teams. When the lists that long surely it can't be a coincidence that they're all underperforming individually.
They may well have but they could have got someone, anyone with at least some experience would have been better. Even in just the assistant manager position. Someone like Wassall for example.

I think the players available at a manager's disposal also dictate tactics. You can't make players do things they can't do (their limitations), you try to play to their strengths. Here, some criticism may be levelled at Rooney at how he has deployed Knight. There's a lack of pace in the side, for instance. (I certainly agree with your comment about recruitment) The likes of Jozwiak may indeed look better in another side, but that's because he'd probably receive better service (if playing in a side with more creative midfielders) rather than feeding off scraps.
I pointed out the BBC stats because it highlights the deficiencies in our squad.
As for managers, football is a small world, I'm sure clubs make overtures (via agents) to out of work/available managers even when the present manager is in situ; they sound each other out, or say, in the case of Cardiff, a good relationship continues between the owners & the former boss, Warnock, they ask his advice and he may point them to McCarthy.
The point I'm trying to say is that while there are a limited number of jobs, & managers can't be choosy, how is anyone to know that Wilder would have wanted to manage us in our current situation (on & off-field)? The same with McCarthy. Both may have passed up the opportunity to wait for something better.
I'm not arguing with your point about regression and hints of desperation, it has been immensely disappointing. It may be that the manager cannot do anymore with what he has. I feel Rooney is counting/gambling on Rotherham running out of gas which is dangerous. We need to start helping ourselves.

It doesn't matter what you say, I've realised over the last few day's @RoyMac5 will never blame Rooney for anything?. Rooney could literally sub himself on and intentionally score an own goal and @RoyMac5would blame the keeper for not saving it. I'm beginning to suspect Wayne's hacked his account.??

Did anyone else notice that macs disappearance from the stands during games coincided with rooneys statement that if the club had wanted steve as manager they would have hired him....
And that his disappearance coincided with our massive dip in fortunes( together with a lack of beilik)
Perhaps waynes over confidence during his brief period of success led to him dismissing macs input.
If it was the case then its about time that wayne asked him for a little assistance again, preferably in the coaching dept.
To my mind its madness that one of the best coaches in the country isnt on the coaching field every day with wayne doing what he does best.

We're not really having that many shots, all things considered. I agree, our chance creation isn't brilliant, but if we're 19th for xGF, which are the statistics I'm looking at, then we're underperforming by being the lowest scorers in the league. Infogol gives our xGF as 44.4, meaning we've missed or had saved or had blocked 15 goals worth of chances (considering that xG doesn't account for own goals). That's an awful lot of waste. I might go through the missed attempts considered "Big Chances" over the season and see why they didn't go in. We're about in line with our xGA for goals conceded (48 goals from an xG of 48.6), and that record is top half of the table for xGA. I'm not saying we should be blazing up the league, but these stats suggest we should have scored more goals from the attacking play that we have had.
It's also probably worth noting that some teams, Preston and Rotherham perhaps most clearly, have received a lot of penalties this season, and this has boosted their xGF quite a bit (most xG models use an xG of around 0.78 for a penalty). Take away their 7 and 8 penalties awarded, and their xGF from general play drops below our's, suggesting that they've been fortunate that the opposition have been so foul happy in the area (and perhaps that referees have been kind to them in giving as many penalties as they have done; yes I am still bitter about the other night).

If we're having that many shots, why is our xG so low? I've looked at 3 different sources and they have us at 19th, 21st and 21st. Could it be our shots have been when the opposition have many players behind the ball to block? I can't think of many times our players have had clear cut chances or been 1 on 1 with the keeper. Or are most our shots headers? aren't headers generally less accurate?

Maybe thats the answer as we aren't creating or carving out good opportunities as you allude to that statistically a team would be far more likely to score from then a random potshot from outside of the area.

More to the point why can it only be addressed in January? There is way more he can do tactically to get us on the front foot and scoring some goals, regardless of players.

They did though, they brought in Roberts and Gregory. We've had a strike force of Waghorn, Gregory and CKR for most of Rooney's time. They're not world beaters by any means but they're still average Championship standard. Certainly not the worst in the division. Blame the managers tactics for the lack of goals, not them.

Honestly, how bad do we have to be before you start questioning Rooney? If he took us down to the National League with this squad would you still blame the players?
