Coming into this season, I was happy just to see us grind out results. I've been genuinely surprised at the quality of some of our play, particularly at home, where none of the goals so far has been from a header. I hope that continues and be carried into away games too, but survival in this first season back in the Championship is the most important target this season. If we have to achieve it with a few backs to the wall defensive performances, I'm not in the slightest bit bothered.

Do you? You must come on here and then leave without contribution as I haven’t seen anything from you for months. You are like a bloke I know who goes into M&S everyday, and visits the Lingerie section without ever buying anything. Neither activities are an unreasonable thing to do, and I accept a personal decision. But both I and M&S hope for more.

Well no, in monetary terms just a few pence is hardly relevant. However the inference that anyone and everyone is a potential idiot likely to use a small metal object as a missile is another thing. It's about numbers, and the majority of well meaning football supporters being brandished as potentially dangerous, due to a very small percentage of total imbeciles.

It's a tough call. I'd be tempted to start Phillips too. At the same time, Osborn might wonder why he signed for us if he doesn't get a start even when one of the starting trio is missing.

Most certainly English . Not in the UK most of the time, but only in mainland Europe. So not quite the other side of the world. Tend to do some work in the evenings and so yes, generally post on the forum last thing 👍🏽

I wonder how long this thread will last.
l will start us off. @europia seems to post most days, but always around 22.00 British hours. I wonder why that is? Is he/she English and it’s the last thing they do before going to bed. Or might they live on the other side of the world, and are posting as they eat breakfast. Or does he/she lead a life of routine, where each hour of each day is allotted to a particular task.
Anybody else think odd things about posters on here I wonder?

Equal to the Roger Davis one that others have mentioned, in the sense that both are inexplicable. Anyhow Roger obviously recovered, and hopefully the nightmares are short lived for Adams.

I'm hopeful that Mel will agree to write a book about all of this one day, it would be an amazing story, and I dare say some on here would have no interest in reading a single word of it should it happen. I remain grateful for his time owning our club and his generosity. I don't think anyone could blame him of malice towards our club. The hardest bit would be the legal read of his story. There would be a lot of things he'd like to put straight.
I have recently been involved with the Sheffield United ex-chairman's memories, Kevin McCabe's Mucky Boots. He was principal shareholder since 1999 and then chairman when they had the lengthy legal fight over Carlos Tevez against the FA and Premier League for two years and many trips later to courts before being rewarded with a £15m settlement of the £50m sought against West Ham. Although he resigned in 2010 as chairman he was still the owner of the club and sought investment and gained it with Prince Abdullah bin Mosaad Al Saud of the Royal House of Saud – a 50 per cent stake. Then there was Ched Evans to sort. At that time they were said to be the richest UK football club. They were wrong, the Prince was not as rich as they thought, it was not the game changer they hoped for. We might have had a similar tale with our Prince if that had gone through. What many do not realise is that they are a randy lot, there are said to be around 15,000 of these princes and being added to generously. McCabe was also chairman of Sheffield FC, the world's oldest club. A true football fan and whose main (very successful) business interest was in property.
His hated predecessor, Mike McDonald, had wanted to merge the club with Wednesday and sell Bramall Lane. McCabe bought the club outright around the time Gadsby, Billy Davies took over here and had to sell his stake when he served a roulette notice on the Prince in 2017, giving him the option to sell his 50 per cent at £5m or buy McCabe's 50 per cent for the same price. The prince accepted that offer of owning the club outright after some legal battles. McCabe has many good memories of appointing Nigel Clough and what he achieved, got stuck in Division One for a lengthy time, and did make the leap to the Premier League.
I would recommend David Clowes reads Kevin's excellent book, what working with an investor entails, having to deal with representatives and how things can turn sour. Look at Chelsea right now, the fight between the two co-owners there after such a short time. Prince Abdullah tried to sell the club to Nigerian investors recently but failed, he claims he’d invested £40m from his resources to keep the club afloat. He should have a word with Mel, his investment must have been close to 6-7 times that plus many wrinkles and worries for his health. All he got for that was memories, some good, mostly bad. Choose wisely, David, if you do look for investment.

Fair point. It's probably too late for an independent regulator to have any impact. It needed to happen at the onset of the PL and Sky influence. As ManCity have proven, you can break rules, as long as you can afford expensive legal experts to tie the authorities in knots.

Totally agree - even last night not starting Brown In that game over Collins ( not being disrespectful to collins) was a disgrace in fact why send him out on loan to a league one or two team if we don’t play him against a league two team

I know he gets a lot of stick from some clueless fans but I would have Gary Rowett back (he fell out with Mel Morris which is why he was forced to leave).
He did wonders at Millwall with a very low budget and got them to the play offs a few times. Not the most exciting style of football but effective and is currently without a club so would cost nothing in payoffs. He knows how to wheel and deal so could be a good fit in our current situation.

If Warne does the t*** tactic re Brown on Saturday, maybe the fans can start chanting his name over and over without stopping until he gets brought on. "All we are saying, is give Brown a chance" - John Lennon, a possible Derby county fan if he'd still been alive.

What is that though? Does anyone actually understand what we're trying to do this season?  If we'd gone out last night with Collins up front, and dropped a load of crosses on his head, we probably win that game.  It might not have been pretty, but it would probably have worked.  Instead he barely got a single cross all night.  Like I said earlier, we started with a narrow right winger, a wrong-footed left winger and our best crosser stuck at right back.  It was blatantly obvious from the line-up that Collins would get no service.
If the plan is to pump a load of crosses in like last season, I don't understand why we've signed a 5'9 striker and have no left-footed left winger at the club.  If the plan is sit deep and break, I don't understand why we've signed a bunch of midfielders who seem to struggle when teams run at them.  We've got Yates and Goudmijn who seem to want balls into feet and passing options, yet we move the ball forward so quickly that they're always isolated, and we never play into feet anyway.  I genuinely have no idea from watching the first 5 games, what we're actually trying to even do.
