nottingram reacted to sage in Surviving on £1 a day for food and drink
With the spiralling cost of fuel and other essential items, particularly the cost of heating your home, it has been been reported that a further million people will be plunged into poverty over the next month, with half of them children. Many families will be faced will the awful choice of eating or heating.
The UK average spend of food and drink is £40 a week. However many survive on a fraction of this. Therefore to shine a light on this, experience a little and raise some money, My lad and I will be living on £1 a day each on food and drink for a week, a total of £14 for the two of us.
We are going to start this on Easter Monday (a kind of belated lent) and hopefully manage the full 7 days. Obviously this won't be easy but I won't pretend this is anything like suffering many people will be going through around the country.
Almost 2 years ago, David and I launched a campaign on here to raise money for the Derby Mission Food Bank when many people were laid off due to Covid. I am looking to do the same again, with anyone who can afford it donating to the same cause. I am hoping we can raise £1000. I will be donating the difference in what I would normally spend on a supermarket shop for the two of us.
I will set up a specific DCFC Fans donate account and provide a link in the next couple of days.
In the meantime, maybe posters could share experiences and ideas around this area. Many on here will be able to donate but many posters may also need help, so I hope we can come together and help each other.
I will do a diary entry on here on how we manage, how we shop, what we eat and how we feel.

The most galling thing about this, to me, is that Derby have barely been allowed to operate as a football club for near enough 3 years now, on top of points deductions, over at worst a breach of rules with a net impact of 0. Not defending Derby, but really that is what it is. Arguably not even that, as it took a while for the EFL to get it to stick. Ultimately, being able to load profits or losses into different years but ending up level overall. That has all led to Festy’s contract situation.
Meanwhile you have a network of clubs, who can sign players with one club and sell, loan or release them to another, load profits into one club or losses into another through player trading, sign players at a discount because clubs aren’t protected by compensation rules to foreign clubs, causing a pretty obvious advantage shown by the fact their poxy club can get promoted as soon as they’ve made an arse of being in the Premier League, again. And this is fine? It goes on so obviously and so blatantly and yet a blind eye is consistently turned to what is happening. It is so obvious he will be playing for Watford within the next couple of years but that is of course absolutely fine.
No blame on the player or agent, it’s a short career and I dare say with Festy’s skill set, his will be even shorter than the average. He has to look after himself, as do all of the players. Just an utterly ridiculous situation enabled by those who regulate the sport.

    Exactly.
I am pretty confident if Festy had made a meal of their right back’s head high challenge he’d have been off for a second yellow too.

    Yep.
I genuinely don't know how I'd feel if we were taken over by the Saudi state. I don't think I could deal with just abandoning the club, but it would certainly result in at least a tinge of discomfort every time I stopped to think about it.

Yes, sadly football does funny things to people.
I am glad the worst thing I have felt I had to defend is our owner selling a stadium to himself, and not, and I must stress I am plucking this scenario out of thin air, arranging an arson attack on the business of someone he wished to intimidate, or profiting from being in business with a country currently invading another.
It is a shame, but sportswashing, to differing degrees, is proven to be very effective.

I remember back when we Derby fans used to defend everything our owner did, and that was just run a football club very badly and wind a few others up in the process.

So it was, at worst, very very arguable. The decisions going against us are absolute shockers. I don’t think there is a conspiracy but perhaps subconscious bias, a bit like when Chris Martin stopped getting any penalties when he got his diving rep a few years ago. I could probably name you 15 absolute unarguable stinkers over the last two years that have gone against us, I bet you couldn’t do the same that have gone for us.

I think that is a bit of a cheap and easy line though - I don’t think the players sold materially affect the vale of the club? And Shinnie and Jagielka the only ones who left who affected the first team’s chances of survival if that’s what they mean, arguably only Jagielka even given Shinnie would’ve been a bit part player.
Dont mean this to say we should’ve sold more, just an easy line to use when your offer wasn’t enough.
