Journalists are told news by sources either at the club or close to the club.
There are multiple possible reasons as to why.
Journalists are used by agents to get better deals for their clients.
Clubs use journalists to gauge fan reaction. They also do it to drive the price of their own players up, and those of potential targets down.
Journalists don’t just make up news. They don’t have bosses who say ‘Go on Percy mate, make up a random transfer rumour on Derby as that’s what will drive reading figures up’. If it was Liverpool that might fly, but not Derby... We’re not that popular.
Clubs, agents and players use journalists. And the journalists are judged by how accurate their information is by most readers. Percy isn’t going to potentially tarnish his reputation on a story he fabricated out of thin air on Derby... Again, we’re not that popular.
But of course, take what journalists say with a pinch of salt. Remember, there are other motives for such stories getting out. 

Even if this was the case, and I'm not convinced by the argument, doesn't it reflect more poorly on Mel than Percy?
 

Percy has got his info from somewhere, and he doesn't usually tweet just for the sake of the clicks.
That's why i fully believe the 9+3 suspended is what the EFL's start point was.
What we negotiate that down to we'll see, but given that *I'd guess* our starting point was "We have accounts showing we complied, now you tell us where they are not compliant with FRS102" which would've led to a whole new round of "charged with non-compliant accounting, we fight it, etc etc" which neither party wants.
Perhaps we've agreed to "uncontroversial" accounting, which does show a minor breach, on the understanding we'll get a minor punishment. Having now put in the accounts, the *cough* gibson *cough* faction want everything thrown at us.....

So because he reported on a takeover which didnt happen you now think he is going to have a childish agenda aginst us? ?

We potentially broke the rules due us revising the accounts, both us & the EFL know the circumstances around that though.

Why is Percy's reputation all of a sudden being dismissed?
He has been the most reliable journo for Derby news for years. He is clearly getting fed info from within the club.
Yes he released articles etc over the takeovers which didnt end up being finalised but they were still clearly based off info passed to him from the club, and since then the likes of Radio Derby and I think even Pearce have said things which pretty much back up what Percy said at the time.
I dont think for one second he would release an article which could go against his reputation just because he is a Forest fan & we play them on Sat.

The negotiation will be down to the fact we could've sold players etc to change our p&s figures which we cannot do retrospectively now if we change the accounts after the inital sign off.
Seems like neither us nor the efl want it to go to a tribunal again which is good.
Maybe a 3pt deduction with an additional 3pts suspended?

Anything more than 3 and we'll keep fighting I think. It all relates to the EFL originally signing off the accounts and us signing players based on the previously approved accounts. If they'd challenged it first time around, we wouldn't have signed furthering players leading to an FFP breach. 

Exactly, we need to weigh it up and think what would be best.
If we were to take 3 points but be able to end the saga and sign players, we'd definitely fancy our chances of staying in the division.
If we were to take a 9 point penalty, I think it would be a difficult task to stay up even if we could sign more players.

I wouldn't say it would be an excellent result but when you read the Percy tweet, it seems as if the EFL are trying to impose a 9 point deduction. I think that would send us down. 3 points wouldn't in my opinion. And it would allow us to end the saga and sign players.
