It is a rule. This will be the third season it has existed for L1 and L2.
I must have missed this. What’s the rule?

I don't remember them announcing anything regarding Wigan...
Wigan could only make free transfers and loan signings with no loan fee for their first season out of Admin

Of the U24s, looks like Kornell McDonald, Isaac Hutchinson, Alex Matthews, Tyree Wilson and Harvey Randle have been released.

I’m not counting Duncan and Borkovic has already moved to the USA.
No Wilson, Hutchinson or Randle. Wilson being the biggest surprise. No Kornell McDonald or Alex Matthews (Missouri State University Bears) either.

Looks like (o) = Players U24 and out-of-contract who have been offered a contract.
Doesn’t appear to show players 24+ who have been offered a contract.
-
Weren’t we linked with Ihiekwe a few seasons back?

Didn’t Alex Matthews spend most of one season out injured? In a crowded central midfield, others overtook him while he was recovering from his injury and he never caught up again.
Shame really as he showed a lot of promise, winning Academy Player of the Year a few seasons ago.

Re Carlos Richards, anyone know what he is like as a player, never seen him.
Not the tallest. Right-footed winger. I saw him play for the Derby County Youth XI at Matlock Town in the pre-season friendly. Richards had quick feet, could dribble and cross, and has scored a few goals at U18 level. Big step-up to first-team though.

Carlos Richards not involved with the U18s today which, after training with the first-team, frees him up to be in the match day 18 if Wayne Rooney selects him.

3 U16s starting, another on the bench along with an U15.
1-0. Rutt poked it in from a Borkovic FK
Who’s the U15? Price or Davidson?

Will Grewal-Pollard is probably the next in line (as he will new be a first year professional) but he was converted to CB quite a lot last season when Reece Hutchinson was playing LB for us as an U23 trialist.
I’d say next up would he highly rated Riley Moloney, an England youth captain I think, but he missed most of last season so didn’t get much U18 playing time. Moloney will be a second-year scholar this season.
Cian Kelly-Caprani, a first year professional this season, was also played at left-back for the U18s even though he’s more of an attacking player really.
Likewise, RB Rhys Brailsford, who can play anywhere across the backline, was also played at LB for the U18s. Brailsford will also be a first year professional this season.
