    I think both Robinson and Aghatise are injured, which is why I went for those other two, but I've not been following the youth very closely so might be wrong. But didn't Robinson come off after 20 minutes against the Gumps, after a tough season injury-wise so far?

    Darren Robinson limped off in the first half against Nottingham Forest U21s last Monday with an ankle injury.

    Osazee Aghatise played against Leeds U21 on 5th August and then didn’t play again until 30th September against Norwich City U21s. Aghatise wasn’t in the squad last Monday against Nottingham Forest U21s.

    A reminder of the rules for folk, given we have the vital game at Ipswich three days later. If we can afford it I'd likely take the fine, but if we're not taking the fine and are looking for four qualifying outfield players, I would pick: Stearman, Forsyth, Smith (for fitness) and Roberts giving a team of:

    Loach

    Stearman     Rooney     Roberts

    Oduroh     Thompson   Smith     Ibrahim     Forsyth

    Lo-Everton

    Cybulski

    Is Cybulski able to play given he's on loan at Matlock?

    Heard that Evans loan to Melton over and has been recalled to the club. Interesting to see what they do with him now. I think he will stay u21s / look for a new loan as it suits him and the club.

    Doesn’t look like Evans is in the squad tonight. Foulkes starts and Roberts on the bench.

    Sonny Blu Lo-Everton starts (still a trialist?) and a trialist on the bench. Leigh Kavanagh and Joe Haigh both start.

    Interesting they started with Z Dixon on the bench after he travelled u21s last week.

    Turns out it was Connor Dixon on the bench against Newcastle, coming on after 81 minutes, not Zion Dixon.

    First year scholar. LB

    Still U16s

    Yep. U16s I think. Wasn’t confirmed as a first-year scholar and doesn’t have an U18 player profile on the official site. If he’s been with us since U12s I think he would’ve been confirmed with the other first-year scholars if he was one.

    I’m not sure where C Richards was

    Think Carlos Richards is going to be more involved with u21 and first team squad this year.

    I agree with @roboto, but like @ExiledinDerby I’m also wondering where Carlos Richards was and if he’s injured. Currently, he’s not making the first team match day 18 and with no U21 game this weekend, he could easily have been included in the U18 squad, particularly as they were a player short on the bench and started Darren Robinson (with there being no U21 game).

    Richards hasn’t been involved at all for the U18s this season and, after coming off the bench in the U21’s first game of the season, then starting the second, he has been absent from the U21’s last two matches, including last time out against Newcastle when the U21’s were a player short on the subs bench.

    I also though about this but I wonder if Zion Dixon was on the U21 bench to make up the numbers. Lennon Wheeldon has started all four U18 games so far, seemingly ahead of Dixon right now who has made two U18 sub appearances.

    The weekend Dixon made the U21 bench, the U21s were away to Newcastle on the Friday, the U18s were away to Man City the following day. With both squads down to the bare bones, I wonder if they picked their strongest starting 11s for both and then filled in the subs benches with the players who were left.

    Not sure I’m right, on that, just my speculative thinking.

    A bit of topic but didn’t we get to the final of the Anglo Italian cup and lose vs cremonese?

    For some reason I loved the Anglo Italian cup.

    Yes we did. I was at Wembley for the final against Cremonese (who are back in Serie A, I notice).

    So, do we waste a @Ghost of Cloughmatch thread on this or is this the de facto thread?

    From @Shuff264's fantastic investigation of the rules I'd suggest he's missed Fozzy and we should pick our 4 as:

    Fozzy (to skipper the side)

    Dobbin (to try to get a goal)

    Collins (to try to get a goal)

    Smith (for fitness)

    Loach

    Oduroh    Rooney     Forsyth (c)     Grewal-Pollard

    Smith     Thompson

    Dobbin    Aghatise     Nunn

    Collins

    If Collins needs a rest then Dobbin up top and Bird in as the fourth man.

    Aghatise is injured.

    I know there are rules about having to pick so many players involved in the previous and/or next match but I hope the club just pay the £5k fine if necessary and pick whoever they want.

    I had no idea what rules you were referring to… so I asked Google:

    7 PLAYERS

    7.1  In all rounds of the Competition a Player must be a “Registered Player” of his Club. 7.2 For the EFL Clubs, a Registered Player is one who:

     7.2.1  would be registered and eligible to participate in a match in the League Competition for that EFL Club commencing at the same time and on the same date as the Match in accordance with the provisions of the Regulations or would have been but for the operation of Regulation 44.9 (Squad Lists) (as amended from time to time); or

     7.2.2  would be so eligible but for the fact that they are registered on a Long Term Loan at a club playing in the National League (National Division, North Division or South Division) but by the agreement of the Club, the National League club and the Player he has permission to return to play in this Competition.

    7.3  Each EFL Club shall play its Full Available Strength in and during all Matches.

    Guidance

    ‘Full Available Strength’ means the EFL Club must include at least four Qualifying Players in the ten outfield Players named in the starting eleven on the Team Sheet.

    7.4  Qualifying Player means any Player who:

     7.4.1  had started the immediately preceding First Team Fixture (as defined below);

     7.4.2  subsequently starts the immediately following First Team Fixture;

     7.4.3  is in the list of ten Players at the Club with the highest number of starting appearances in First Team Fixtures in the same Season;

     7.4.4  has made forty or more starting appearances in First Team Fixtures or international equivalents (and not limited to the same Club or Season); or

     7.4.5  is on standard loan from a Premier League Club or any EFL Club operating a Category One Academy.

    7.5  First Team Fixture means the League Competition, Premier League, EFL Cup or FA Challenge Cup (but shall, in the context of Rules 7.4.3 and 7.4.4 only, also include this Competition).

    7.6  Any EFL Club failing to meet the requirement to play Full Available Strength will be required to pay a fine of up to £5,000.

    Brown played last year for the u18s a number of times as well but yes has an injury. It seems quite common for first years to experience injuries when first coming in full time. I’m guessing it’s a shock to their bodies when the load increased so dramatically especially when so many are still growing..

    Yes, I imagine the step-up from part-time training (if you can even call it that whilst at school) to full-time training as a scholar is massive in terms of intensity and stress on the body. Then add in the fact that the scholars are 16 going on 17, and still growing, it's no wonder there are so many injuries.
