Yeah, I meant specifically that they announced them in advance. I sort of remember we weren't told until a short while before the match previously? But anyway I'll be buying my DCFC membership to enable me to watch the U23 games.

Have DCFC said it will only be viewable if you have DCFC membership?

I've just looked at the fixtures for the U23s and it says the three August ones are on RamsTV, does anyone think this is to encourage us to buy a DCFC membership? Or did it always say in advance whether they were being shown?

Last season the vast majority of U23 games were on RamsTV but, I think, that was due to the pandemic as it had not been the case previously when games were open to the public.

  3. Based on my calculations, here's how the pre-season playing time has been spread around after the four first-team pre-season games.

    006b_pre-season_stats.thumb.png.68aa749b8085b7eb0cc8d0f8fd48850e.png

    In total:

    • 30 players have been used in the four first-team games
    • A further three players were named on the bench for one or more games but didn't get used.

Note: The Total stats will differ from the First-Team (FT) stats if the player has also appeared in any of the U23 and / or U23/U18 combined pre-season friendlies.

  4. Academy pre-season playing time

These stats are correct, to the best of my knowledge, up to 31st July 2021 Derby County U23s v Sheffield United U23s, with the exception of the U18s game v Burton Albion for which I have been unable to find confirmed team lineups or reports.

If anybody has the team lineup for the U18s v Burton Albion U18s and, even better, timings of substitutions please let me know. Many thanks.

If my memory is correct, Wilson is the only player we haven't seen in pre-season yet. Hopefully, his recovery is going as expected.

Of the U23s, I think Connor Dixon, Bobby Duncan, Tyree Wilson and Jack Stretton (muscle strain) are the ones with no pre-season playing time so far. Stretton is probably in the first-team squad, at least for now.

Is Wilson still injured, @Ghost of Clough? I assume this is from when he went off injured in the penultimate U23 game of last season against Man Utd. Do we know what his injury is? I, too, wish him a speedy recovery.

I’ve been tracking playing time minutes for pre-season as best I can (given that I’ve not seen confirmed lineups or any reports for the U18s game v Burton Albion U18s) and will post these shortly.

I don’t now whether that was their first team or their academy players to be fair.  We gave them a good game.
they should’ve scored etc..thing Is it gives me a glimmer of hope we can pull ourselves out this mess.

They play Leeds in a couple of days time so I imagine the starting 11 for that game will be stronger than the 11 they put out against us first-half.

Moore, Rutt, Aideyan, Ibrahim, Fapetu, Borkovic, Eze and Kelly are the others from the U18 squad, although most don't appear to have been involved. The subs actually appear to be mostly 1st year pros

    10 Trialist?
    12 Eze?
    14 Seb Thompson?
    16 Perez de Gracia?
    17Trialist?

Thanks, @Ghost of Clough. I did wonder if 14 was Seb Thompson but knew he went off injured in the first-half against Matlock. Looks like he’s made a speedy recovery.

What kind of striker is Stretton?

I like Jack Stretton. He’s a hard working striker, with good control, can run with the ball, and has an eye for goal. In his first-year as a professional last season, after graduating from the Academy, he was prolific at the start of the U23 season. Like all players at that age, he has areas he needs to work on, but after stepping up from the U18s, in a short space of time he overtook Cameron Cresswell, Bobby Duncan and Jahmal Hector-Ingram which is credit to him.

He had a good, short loan spell at Stockport County where he scored three goals in five appearances.

Of course, none of that guarantees anything, I remember Callum Ball being prolific for Derby County reserves but being unable to establish himself in the first-team under Nigel Clough.

It’s a shame Stretton hit the woodwork in one of his early substitute appearances for the first-team. Had he scored instead, the goal would have done wonders for his confidence.

Footbal365 have listed Stretton in their 10 young Championship players to watch out for this season:

A calf injury, following his return from Stockport County, prevented him playing in the run-in last season and a muscle strain has kept him out of the pre-season friendlies but, I believe, he returned to training this week.

Stretton looks a natural goal scorer at U23 level but it’s a big step-up to Championship level against streetwise defenders and he has work to do to prove he can score goals on a regular basis at this level.

Highlights of Derby County U18s 3-3 Burton Albion U18s is up on the official DCFC website:

    https://www.dcfc.co.uk/news/2021/07/u18-highlights-Derby-county-3-3-burton-albion

No coverage on Twitter and no match report so line-up not known.

Having watched the highlights a few times, I reckon the Team and Subs (with some I’m not sure about) was:

    1 Roberts, 2 Brailsford, 3 Moloney, 4 Robinson, 5 Ryan, 6 Christie ?, 7 Trialist B (Richards), 8 Sebagabo, 9 Dixon, 10 ????, 11 Reece-Davies. Subs: 12 ????, 14 ????, 15 Cybulski, 16 ????, 17 ????, 18 Grewal-Pollard

Anybody able to confirm and / or fill in the gaps? @Ghost of Clough?

Wouldn’t surprise me if some of the gaps were trialists.

    Aka ‘trialist B’

Hopefully a very good signing. I saw Carlos Richards against Matlock Town and he was very impressive on the right-wing, providing the assist for Luke Plange’s goal. Richards also scored a very good goal against Loughborough Uni.

EDIT: I tried to link to Richard Cusack’s Tweet on this but it has now been deleted.

Think @Ghost of Clough or @Stuniverse are the ones most likely to know

I’m not aware of anything, @Reggie Greenwood.

Bobby Duncan is in a group including Jack Stretton (injured?), Louie Watson (injured?), Jordan Brown, Tyree Wilson, Connor Dixon, Dylan Williams and Olamide Ibrahim who haven’t featured in any pre-season game at first-team or U23 / U18 level yet.

I think I saw somewhere that Watson and Stretton had picked up knocks but I can’t find it now. It’s possible they could all have knocks but I’ve not seen anything mentioned about the others.

And wasn't there one against Boro U23s tomorrow? At the time I read it I thought that one most unlikely!

When the Academy friendlies we’re first announced, the Middlesbrough game was listed as Sunday 8th August, but things could’ve changed.

Who was the big lad at CH in the last 20 mins @Ghost of Cloughhe looked to have potential (if only by dint of being tall, lol) but seemed scared to pass forward or come out too far/at all?

Ryan is the CB - has the tall gangliness of Tyrone Mings ?

Agreed it was Kain Ryan, left-footed and played as the left-sided CB alongside Eli Christie. I saw Ryan hit two long-range forward passes, one a superb cross-field ball that found our right-winger, the other a more speculative one into their half that found no-one. 21 minutes isn’t anywhere near enough time to judge but I thought Ryan showed promise.

Not sure on how they're lining up. My guess:

    'A'
    Brailsford   Solomon   Christie   ADG
    Aghatise   Matthews
    'C'   Fapetu   RND
    Cybulski

Andres Perez De Gracia came on as LB against Matlock so I’d guess same again for him. I thought he was a central midfielder, has he played left-back before?
