  1. U21 / U18 trialists - knowing when they have signed?

Derby County U21s played Leeds United U21s yesterday and four players who haven't yet been confirmed as signing for Derby played. Of these four, on both Google View and Soccerway, two were named [Jake Rooney and Renaldo Torraj (sub)] and two were listed as trialists [Sonny Blu Lo-Everton (Trialist A) and Armelindo Mema (Trialist B)].

Does this mean Rooney and Torraj have signed (even though not publicly announced yet) and Lo-Everton and Mema are still on trial / yet to sign?

On the official Derby County Academy Twitter, the club named all four players:

    Thoughts?

  2. Team News for U21s v Leeds United U21s.

So with Demico Burton and Jack Bates, it looks like not all the U21 signings have been officially announced yet.

I wonder if there’s any more?

Placeholder U21 profiles are now up for Demico Burton and Jack Bates: https://www.dcfc.co.uk/teams/u21

  4. I'm not 100% sure I'm correct with the "(?? Name ??)" ones but I reckon:

Left to right: Lennon Wheeldon, Farren Simons, Harry Hawkins, Dejaune Brown, (?? Daniel Cox ??), Keilan Robinson, (?? Josh Shattell ??), Jayden Davidson, (?? Jack Perry ??), Billy Gough, Cameron Ashia

    Any thoughts, @Ghost of Clough

Putting this in this thread as I'm assuming they're an academy player. Any idea's who this is?

I think that is Jack Bates who played against Belper United and Matlock Town. Not a first-year scholar so I assume he’s a trialist. Think he may have played on trial for us back-end of last season as well.

[Edit] A quick google of “Jack Bates Derby County” and I found this: https://derbyunifootyjournos.wordpress.com/2022/05/05/derby-starlet-jack-bates-confident-in-first-team-breakthrough-im-in-a-better-place-than-ever-before/

  6. Looks like placeholder U18 profiles have been added for the first year scholars: https://www.dcfc.co.uk/teams/u18

10 by the looks of it.

    Goalkeepers

Josh Shattell (formerly Tooting and Mitcham United)

    Defenders

Billy Gough (left-back, formerly Notts Co)

    Daniel Cox (centre-back)

Jack Perry (right-back, can also play midfield, missed a lot of last season with a back injury)

Keilen Robinson (centre-back, but can play left-back I think)

    Midfielders

    Harry Hawkins (central midfielder)

Farren Simons (attacking midfielder, no. 10)

    Forwards

    Dejaune Brown (striker)

    Jayden Davidson (winger)

Lennon Wheeldon (striker, formerly Notts Co)

Is Max Bardell injured too? Is he still ours, Stu?

Max Bardell was definitely on the EFL Retained List and he’s still listed on the U21 Profies page on the official site (the first team, U21 and U18 profiles were updated towards the end of last week with players that had left). Buchanan and Byrne still remain, but I think that’s for legal reasons like when Keogh’s profile stayed up for ages after he’d gone.

I assumed Bardell was injured as surely starting a trialist at RB against Bradford City, then using Darren Robinson out of possession in the second half, surely Bardell would’ve featured if he was fit?

Any sign of CJ Clarke, think he’s injured?

Yes, sadly. I’m sure I saw a photo on here, taken from his Instagram early June, where he had his right foot / lower leg in a protective boot. It may well have been in last season’s Academy Thread.

  9. I’m not sure I’ve got all these correct, but vs Belper United tonight I reckon:

    (Right to left)

    First half:

    1. Harry Evans

    2. ? (Luke) ? -  5. Jake Rooney [c] -  6. Harrison Solomon - 3. Will Grewal-Pollard

    8. Cian Kelly Caprani - 4. Jack Bates - 10. Olamide Ibrahim

    7. Carlos Richards - 9. ? (Owen) ? - 11. ??

Second half (majority came on midway through the second-half, Rhys Brailsford for Harrison Solomon was the only change at HT:

    13. Jack Thompson

    18. Rhys Brailsford - 16. Nelson Aideyan - 15. Keilen Robinson - 17 ? (Demi) ?

    22. Adebayu Fapetu - 19. Harry Hawkins - 20 ??

    25. Jaydan Davidson - 23. Zion Dixon - 24. Reece Nicholas-Davies

Callum Moore was warming up with the team pre-match but didn’t play.

Riley Moloney was sitting in the stand, as was Sam Sebagabo with his left foot and lower leg in a protective boot.

23’s played against Loughborough at Moor farm today

i believe it finished 3-3 with like the first team, them playing a first half XI and a second half XI, the 23’s did the same

lots of minutes going round with a few first years getting minutes and also u16 gk Jack Thompson who seems to be carrying on where he left off last season when he was with the first team regularly

Any idea who played for the U21s against Loughborough?

Is there many academy players who we think can step up next season? to add sqaud depth

Most likely, I suppose, are 34. Jack Stretton and 49. Bartosz Cybulski but they could both find their opportunities more limited this season if we add another striker or two to the addition of David McGoldrick.

You then have the U23s who got a squad number last season but didn’t really break through: 22. Max Bardell (RB) and 44. Osazee Aghatise (MC) if he signs his new contract. Then you have the other U23s Will Grewall-Pollard (LB/CB), Harrison Solomon (CB) and Courtney Clarke (MC/CB) plus Connor Dixon (MC) if he signs his new contract, and last but not least the wild card Bobby Duncan (SC).

Olamide Ibrahim (MC) had a good first season as a first-year scholar, but fell down the pecking order last season, but the former Manchester United youth player could yet step-up this season as a first year professional.

Of the U18s, 47. Darren Robinson (MC) and 46. Carlos Richards (RW) have impressed in training this week and Liam Rosenior has said they will both play against Bradford City tomorrow. Another U18 central midfielder, Sam Sebagabo, is one to watch but next season could be too soon for him.
