Ashley was early 40s when he took over Newcastle. Nearly 60 now and looking to step down in one of his roles at the Fraser Group in May 2022. He’s on a mission to take Derby to the top.

The grief he got from Newcastle fans I think will spur him on to go one better than what they do in the future.

This could just be an unbelievable coup from somebody that knows what they are doing in so many ways.

He’s not just buying Derby as an advertising tool for one of his brands. I’m sure he can do that a lot cheaper than buying Derby County.

There actually could be a grain of truth in this and you never know i myself have thought the same thing . What if he really wants to rub salt in the wounds of newcastle fans .

It's a pity he wasn't in control a few years back, maybe he could have put Anya on a zero hours contract.?

Anybody that is willing to spend £50m+ on a football club in our state needs all the backing he can get.

He’s certainly not coming to sit at the bottom of the Championship, he’s a guy that know how to get out of this league and keep it sustainable in the best league in the world.

If there’s anybody who has a problem with that, maybe it’s you that’s the problem.

The usual Geordie mouthpieces giving it large on the comments section from The Times article regards Ashley’s bid.
    Here’s my favourite reply.
We don't own our ground, have debts totalling £60m, owe HMRC £26m, haven't seen the PL since 2008 and have a squad made up of pensioners and children. Along the way we sacked our captain for his involvement in a drink driving debarcle, we had very public spats with the EFL, we are being sued by fellow EFL members, and this year marks 14 since we were the worst team in PL history.
We know what bad ownership looks like.
NUFC fans don't know they're born.

    …………….seems fair comment to me!?

Assuming we first want to match the likes of Norwich, Fulham and WBA as to-yo clubs, before something more established like Southampton, we need to be run as a profitable business and have strategic moves in place.
We had the perfect owner in Mel Morris but he was a terrible chairman.
Mike Ashley may not be the super wealthy Derby fan owner. But that’s probably a good thing. He knows business. And he wouldn’t touch Derby with a barge pole unless he thought he could turn it into a profitable business and to be profitable you need to play PL football at least once every 3 years.

Anyone, literally anyone, who saves our club is welcome. Out of everyone seriously linked to date, I'd choose Mike Ashley. He knows how to get a club on a sound footing and promoted. Proven.
Sam Rush was involved in a set of transfer business which did more for his clients bank balance than the club's progress. Appleby presided over solid but grindingly slow progress. Gadsby (and the LoG) dug us out of a hole but then....shudder.
    It's a no-brainer for me....but any port in a storm.

From what I gather these were Newcastle's biggest gripes with Ashley:
Sports Direct everywhere (I'd rather visit the Sports Direct Stadium that we own, rather a stadium we don't) No ambition (Got close in the 90's now a mid-table Premier League, my heart bleeds...) Didn't spend big on players (They were record holders with Shearer and I think it went to their head, let's be honest even at Derby's peak for anyone under 40 we hardly splashed the cash. Stimac, Poom, Wanchope, Baiano, Eranio etc hardly broke transfer records but what excellent signings they were) Bottom line is Ashley or no Derby County, I'd take Ashley.
Besides people wanted a billionaire takeover well...

BUT THAT'S NOT THE BILLIONAIRE I WANTED!! please... at least he's visited Derby, I'd imagine the Sheik thought we had something to do with either The Kentucky Derby or Demolition Derby on the ps1.

Honestly do not understand those who can’t see the positives in this.

Before this news, we had Appleby as only bidder, his offer rumoured not to be enough which made the prospect of a long protracted painful restructuring plan most likely and starting next season on -15 points. This bid takes that all off the table and also gives us the stability we need to keep as much of the squad together as possible and ensures we don’t sell prize assets for peanuts! Forest can duck off now they ain’t getting Buchanan unless they pay top dollar!!!
The potential delay with him being so late in the process is irrelevant (although looks like he’s moving quickly), due to embargo restrictions around admin we’re limited as to what we can do anyway, priority is to try and keep this group together and extend likes of Buchanan etc.
Also, if Appleby has serious backers he may come back for another bid. This can only be good news.
As for all the Geordie fans on Twitter (apart from the few who actually talk sense and say this is a good thing) Newcastle is a completely different situation to Derby. They’d just been in Champions League but that was all done with heavy spending from rich owners who were Geordie fans living the dream, not sustainable and saddled with debt when he took them over. Most Geordies were blissfully ignorant of the mess they were in. We’re at Rock Bottom, need saving, Ashley is perfect for us right now, there will come a time whether in the championship or premier league where we want more ambition but we’re miles away from that right now.
