  1. Come on guys - getting the viewpoint of fans of other clubs certainly enriches life’s tapestry.

I enjoy getting to see how Derby are viewed from the outside.

Yes, those that come on trying to antagonise are not welcome, but sometimes we have to accept that constructive feedback may be a slightly bitter pill.  Such as the unfortunate fact that we are not currently as big a draw as teams that we feel are naturally below us in the pecking order.

And just because we have had a cretinous fan from a particular club (in this case, Bristol City, who incidentally didn’t come onto our forum), it doesn’t give us the right for incivilities towards other fans “who aren’t part of our gang”.

Thought I'd share this, only an opinion piece/suggestion from FLW, Mendes-Gomes who was on loan from Luton at Fleetwood last year possibly available. Scored against us in a game that we've probably all tried to blank from our memories. Not sure where he'd fit if we were going with wingbacks next year but seems a good player

I do remember him - he looked very good.

Thought, having Mendez-Laing and Mendes-Gomes would be a right problem for full backs and commentators!

    Official spiel here.

Red doesn't suit him, but he'll do well at Bristol.

One of our most consistent players last season, always a 7/10.

Slightly guiles me that Derby barely gets a mention, when it's us that developed him to the point where clubs like Bristol want him. Ever the way with loans, of course.

When I chatted with him at the Supporters Club night he said there was interest from Championship clubs, so I always thought he would go.

Thanks for being a good team player, Haydon.

    Have they photoshopped him?

He had a chin longer than Jimmy Hill every time I saw him in a Derby shirt.

    Maybe it’s the haircut!

  4. It’s always a little slow around this time of year.

At this level, it’s fiscally prudent to not bring in players before training begins, as we’re just paying players to do nothing.

Yes, it does mean that we’ve lost out to Crewe on Taye Ashby-Hammond (why wouldn’t he pick us over them???! Oh yes, because we’re negotiating with other players and we don’t want him), but there will be a list of dozens of options drawn up for every position and the differences between a lot of players are relatively finite.

Pick the right type of player for your style of play who has a positive attitude and they’ll likely prosper.

  5. Just watched a highlights reel of him - he looks very one-footed.

However, if we can sign a player who was a steady performer in a playoff hunting team from the division above, you’d think he would be an improvement to the options we currently have.

  6. Just thought I would check when our first summer (first team) signing was announced for the last 10 years:

    2022 Jul 3 Tom Barkhuizen

    2021 Aug 6 Ryan Allsop

2020 Feb 6 Mike te Wierik

    2019 May 8 Graeme Shinnie

    2018 Jul 20 Florian Jozefzoon

    2017 Jul 3 Andre Wisdom

    2016 Aug 27 Matej Vydra

    2015 Jun 19 Chris Baird

    2014 Jun 25 Zak Whitbread

    2013 May 7 Lee Grant

Absolutely no reason to start panicking quite yet, as only three seasons had we actually signed someone by now…

  7. I used to go every year from the start (and MoR before that) but I haven’t been since 2019.

I have to say that the line ups have had so many ‘meh’ bands on there that I can’t justify the ticket price.

I reckon there is enough bands for one day that I would appreciate, and they are spread across four days.

It started degrading about ten years ago for me.

Doesn’t your second paragraph kind of contradict your first?

Yes, as a rule of thumb, I’d expect most players to favour a club in a higher division but there are other factors for them to consider including salary, term of contract, potential game time and how convincing the manager is when he talks to you about the short and medium term ambitions for the club and the role he sees you playing in it.

I don’t think so.  If he has a good season in the championship, it will serve him much better than any season for us.

I would also expect that Bristol will have more spending power than we do.

I honestly think that playing in front of 30,000 will be very low down the pecking order against being able to prove myself against teams like Leeds and Leicester, rather than Cheltenham and Burton.

First team football at the highest level and total remuneration are the main factors.

Offering “Jam tomorrow” will only get us so far, especially when player will probably only play for a couple of years at any one club before moving on.

  9. I think any player offered a contract with a mid-table division 2 side compared to a division 3 side need their heads looking at if they didn’t choose the highest division.

I know if I was looking for a job, main factors would be salary, level of work and future job opportunities especially if the only real negative was the office at the other place was fancier.

You could argue that if Roberts is confident in himself performing, he could well be playing in division 1 next season, either from a promotion push or a lucrative transfer.

  10. The issue is that we spend an exorbitant amount of money to develop players and end up with bigger clubs coming in an cherry picking anyone with a lot of potential.

We could just as easily let the bigger teams develop these players and then pick up the ones who just don’t make it, like Haydon Roberts, who can step into our first team squad immediately.
