Honestly after Bournemouth why bring back Byrne or Morrison ? Neither of them has been particularly performing well as of late.

That line up deserves another shot and I hope even if they get beat tonight that we won't use it as an excuse to swap Festy from RB or Thompson from midfield in the next game. Against Bournemouth both the midfield 3 and the combination of Festy, Thompson and Knight on the right looked really promising and something to work with.

Makes sense but I'd like to see Williams get a shot if I'm honest.

For some reason I keep thinking it's Wednesday today......
I see what you are saying in a sense about Thompson but do you gain all that much physicality in bringing in Morrison ? Especially as Morrison is prone to getting frustrated after being targetted? To be honest I think if Mitrovic is going to target anywhere physically it will be Byrne if he plays and I'm not even convinced he will be moving to target anyone in particular as he's that dominant against anyone it's not really needed.

I agree, apart from maybe bringing in Forsyth if Buchanan is not 100%.

First game I've managed to watch live in a little while.
The midfield today looked better balanced in my view with Thompson fitting in like a glove and I do think a more typical 433 suits both Shinnie and Bird better.
The right side of our team looked like there was something to really work with there between Ebosele, Thompson and Knight. There was loads of bits nice interplay between them and down that side was the main way we were getting in all game. I hope we persist with those players in those positions and give them time.

To be honest with the way we conducted our business in general during the period of time he was here I think I'd rather a clean break and going in a different direction regardless of how much direct responsibility he had in that.

His deal is up in Jan. Why extend it?
Better to give our Jack in the Box a run in the team.

Whether they'd survive or not in league 1 is hard say to be honest. In my opinion it's a talented group of young players who several have demonstrated they can cut in this league and a few more have shown signs that they could cut never mind the league below. I don't expect that will be the line up we start with next season but I'd be far from surprised if we don't see somewhere between 6-8 of them starting come opening day.
The problem with filling the team with experienced battlers is that none in the current squad are guaranteed to be here next season and the signings we are going to be make will be for the type of players who are experienced in league 1 for a reason. You risk basically bogging down the squad with players who get you to no more than ordinary in league 1 because that's all they've ever been as players, with the academy players it's a different equation because they can very well show to be more than that.
If nothing else laying them out like that you can start to see the gaps that probably need to be bolstered and to an extent you learn more by playing them and seeing if they can cut in this league whilst there is effectively nothing on the line. I just don't want to see us waste this next 6 months or so on players who aren't going to be here when we can use the time productively to make sure we are as ready as possible come next season.
